To wonder why the couple sitting next to us don't want their photo taken?

Just being nosey really. Am sitting in a holiday resort waiting for a magic show to start. Cheesy photographer comes round to each table asking to take group photos. I said I would rather not as I got drenched on the way and feel bedraggled but he said 'it's only a bit of fun' and so I relented. He goes to the couple next to us and they firmly said no. He tried to cheeringly talk them into it and they said it was inappropriate to ask them why not but they have a good reason why he can't take it. Am now curious! Am thinking witness protection?! Epilepsy?! I know it is their right to say no, but it sounded like there was a serious reason behind them saying no. Any ideas as to what it might be?!

Whatever their reason, it's a bit daft of them to say "we have very good reason" because everyone, including me now wants to know!

implantsandaDyson · 28/07/2017 20:15

Because they can't be arsed with dealing with people trying to sell them stuff they don't want on holiday. I say no all the time to shite like that. Maybe the man is going to tell the photographer where he's going to stick his camera when he talks to him later or they are a rival magic act looking to steal ideas. Magic is a cutthroat operation Grin

Mummadeeze · 28/07/2017 20:17

Oh, violent ex partner, yes. That could explain it as the guy looked kind of protective over his partner. No laughing matter if that is the situation.

I would say no as I dont want my photo taken and any subsequent selling.

But anyone who does not take no for an answer wouldn't go down too well with me.

Itsnotwhatitseems · 28/07/2017 20:21

undercover cops investigating a photographer scam

SlothMama · 28/07/2017 20:23

I get annoyed when they try to take photos because I never bother buying them. It's just hassle when they wont take no for an answer

BadPolicy · 28/07/2017 20:30

Vampires, definitely vampires.

Tupperwarelid · 28/07/2017 20:33

My son has ASD, he hates having his photo taken (unfortunately). We always have to say no to things like this otherwise he has a melt down

krustykittens · 28/07/2017 20:34

Slightly off top topic but I wonder if they can even make any decent money out of trying to sell photos when everyone has digital cameras and mobile phones, can take selfies and snap and delete until they get the picture they want? Why on earth would you PAY someone for a snapshot of yourself?!

mummyretired · 28/07/2017 20:38

I hate this. I've been in boat trips in Turkey where stops have been ruined by the photographer making us pose for 15 minutes of a half hour stop. If pushed, I explain loudly that if I want my photo taken I'll pick a 'good' day, wear a nice dress and have my hair done - and dissuade everyone sitting around me.

RolfNotRudolf · 28/07/2017 20:45

Because he faked his death years ago but then they both travelled to your holiday destination to make a new life, and don't want to be exposed like the canoe man in Panama was.

Anditstartsagain · 28/07/2017 20:51

I'm going to say vampires OR spooks from MI5 and they obviously can't have their photo on the website or they will be out of a job...

x2boys · 28/07/2017 20:52

Because they don't like how they look on photos ?

Kursk · 28/07/2017 20:53

Yep, they are in witness protection

TheDowagerCuntess · 28/07/2017 20:56

They probably just don't want their photo taken, but need to make it into a Big Deal to get the annoying fucker to twat off.

JackTwist · 28/07/2017 20:57

On the run from the mob obvs

sweetbitter · 28/07/2017 20:59

I have a weirder but related one I'd like MNers opinions on:

We were on holiday in the US last year, and visited a theme park for the day. We politely asked a man who was standing around looking like he was doing nothing in particular if he would take a photo of us as a family on our phone, and he extremely politely and nicely said he was sorry but he would rather not if that's OK. Then he just went back to standing. Of course it was his perogative, no problem, but I have always wondered since why he didn't want to given that he seemed like a friendly, polite guy.

RortyCrankle · 28/07/2017 21:00

Because they don't want to. That's all you or anyone else needs to know.

maddiemookins16mum · 28/07/2017 21:00

I reckon they're secret shoppers or something for the company. I did this once for a holiday company I worked for, went to a well dodgy hotel and pretended I was a 'normal' customer.

x2boys · 28/07/2017 21:02

He didn't want to mess it up I can't take a photo myself to save my life sweet.

Timefortea99 · 28/07/2017 21:05

When I went to the Shard, they do this - as you go through they line you up in front of a photo backdrop of a skyline, take your photo and then when you get back from the top you are meant to search for your photo and probably pay a ludicrous amount for it as that special moments. This activity held up entry and as I had absolutely no intention of buying a photo (and hate having my photo taken) my OH and I breezed through. The look off outrage on the staff and photographer's faces at my non-compliance.

OCSockOrphanage · 28/07/2017 21:06

They are the CFN from the other thread?

Lostinaseaofbubbles · 28/07/2017 21:08

I agree with the PP who wrote this:

I would also say no.

  1. I don't really like having my photo taken.
  1. I don't want to buy a photo.
  1. I don't want my image to be used on promotional material.
Floggingmolly · 28/07/2017 21:18

You mean you really didn't realise they'd try to sell you the photo, op?? What on earth did you think they wanted it for?!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 28/07/2017 21:21

Vampires seems the most likely explanation. They won't show up in the photo, everyone will realise and start running out of the magic show screaming.
Can you try to see their reflection in a mirror to check? Or order something with garlic in? Their reaction will tell you all you need to know.
