I'd put a note saying I had taken the tyres for safekeeping and that they are free to come and ask for them.

faithinthesound · 27/07/2017 11:57

OP...

Though you absolutely didn't take the tires, please, put them back. If you want any help from the police at all, and they entertain the idea of providing it, they will probably apply the doctrine of "Clean Hands". Until the tires are returned, the person who took them off does not have clean hands.

Consider Shovelly Joe the drug dealer. If Jiminy Billy Bob steals some of Shovelly Joe's cocaine, Shovelly Joe cannot go to the police and complain. Cocaine is illegal. Shovelly Joe's hands are not clean. The police will not help Shovelly Joe pursue Jiminy Billy Bob and be made whole. The police will prosecute Shovelly Joe for his crime.

If, God forbid, this gets brought in front of the police by CFNE, please ensure your hands are clean. CFNE is definitely in the wrong here, morally and ethically if not legally (trespassing, but it's currently a civil matter, more's the pity) so it would be so awful if you were the one who ended up in trouble.

And where are Mrs. Jolly and Army Dad when you need them, I ask you.

This place is quite the eye-opener. Who would have thought it's perfectly legal to just park your car on someone else's property and leave it there? The law is an ass.
Is the Tyre Fairy an elaboration? It makes a great yarn but it's a bit of a daft thing to do - unless OPDH has mates who took matters into their own hands and OP/DH are genuinely nothing to do with it. I mean it serves CFNE right but you don't want to find yourself in a war over this.

IgglesGotANewBag · 27/07/2017 12:03

Tyre thieves, ace! GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

Articu · 27/07/2017 12:03

Look I don't mean to sound ungrateful and I know the OPs drawings are good but I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE a photo. Please OP 🙏🏻 you can blackout anything identifying but a photo of the car withou the wheels would be the cherry on the cake for this thread.

I guess the car is jacked up on bricks or something. It all sounds very Chatsworth Estate - Shameless

DeadDoorpost · 27/07/2017 12:03

I parked in a road round the corner. Don't want my tyres stolen too! placemarking

WeAllHaveWings · 27/07/2017 12:07

therefore the crime of stolen tyres would not have happened!

but (if this has even happened) the crime of interfering with a vehicle has already taken place (fine of up to 150% of weekly income), it is also possible whatever the dh has done when removing the tyres/propping up the car on bricks (which he just happened to have available) has caused criminal damage to the vehicle.

IdentifiesAsYoda · 27/07/2017 12:09

Are you jennyfromthehood, OP?

1sttime84 · 27/07/2017 12:09

Unfortunately tyre thefts happen all the time. My bro woke up to find his 4 tyres removed from his car outside his house.
I think its more disgusting that if someone parked on your driveway you have no rights.
When people used to block my FIL's driveway he'd call the council and they would send someone to issue a parking ticket. Everyone on his street did this as it was getting ridiculous.

gingergenius · 27/07/2017 12:10

@1sttime84 and I'm betting that in spite of it being reported, the police did nothing and the tyres were never found?

grosseconnasse · 27/07/2017 12:12

Shameless placemarking.

Lweji · 27/07/2017 12:12

All considered, the op would have been better off keeping the cones and blocking the car in.

1sttime84 · 27/07/2017 12:14

@gingergenius absolutely nothing at all. Was given a crime reference number for insurance purposes and that was all.

toldmywrath · 27/07/2017 12:16

Sorry to be a killjoy, but it's really difficult removing tyres. Do you mean a thief has removed the wheels op @Alphabites

PoorYorick · 27/07/2017 12:17

If the tyre thieves weren't pursued last time, why would they be pursued now?

AllTheWittyNamesAreGone · 27/07/2017 12:18

Star to the tyre bandits

Everyone keeps saying types but it will be the whole wheel that will have been stolen. I'm surprised a PP is saying it's a common thing where she lives as it's not generally. Spare wheels get stolen especially from fancy 4X4 s but wheels don't tend to be anymore. Most cars have lock nuts and many are alarmed. Even though plenty of thieves are impressively speedy it would be easier to steel the whole car than jack up a car, fiddle with wheel nuts and remove the thread.
