on friday me and a friend are taking the kids to our local park summer show (kids talent show on a band stand) think deck chairs snd picnic blankets and general kids games children sing on stage ect.

Anyway we are taking a picnic for us all and is it bad that i have ordered a few ready made pimms cans enough for two each.
Will i look like a plonky I am not drinking them to get drunk or tiddly am kust thinking it would be nice to enjoy a pimms on the grass in the sun having fun with the kids.

Still a twat though snake. Who the fuck says 'soz' as an adult? Signed by Fox hunting granny who doesn't give one. SOZ 😆

A few people are mentioning time / event. Drinking in charge of children is drinking in charge of children whether it be cocktails at teatime or diamond white for breakfast (the latter of which i often have done - but never in charge of children)

ShellyBoobs · 26/07/2017 23:59

A can of Pimm's is a lot smaller than a can of lager, so surely less alcohol in total even with the same abv?

Exactly.

2 x cans of Pimms is only roughly the equivalent of 1 x standard size can of beer.

OP, you're gonna need a bigger boat!

I'm going to be a bit boring here but feel the legislation aspect here is getting confused.
It is not illegal to drink in a public place, unless a local bylaw applied for by the council is in place. For example, you are breaking the law to drink in the street in Westminster, but not in Lambeth. Contravention of these bylaws is not an arrestable offence and is unusually dealt with by way of confiscation or fine.

It is illegal to be drunk in a public place contrary to the licensing act of 1872, however this is a rarely used piece of legislation in recent years, though technically you could get arrested for it.

It is also illegal to be drunk in charge of a child under 7 or drunk and disorderly. These are the offences people are now more commonly arrested for.

*usually dealt with....

Oh and I would love a pimms in the park, or a nice glass of Rioja 😀

channel your inner Vicki pollard

Friendlysnakehere - where do you stand on Vicki Pollard "types" with several kids having a few cans of Stella in the park?
Would you view the same as the yummy mummies in their frocks sipping prosecco and watching Sebastian, Jemima, and Tarquin run around?
Would you be

Hudson10 · 27/07/2017 00:06

damn pressed too soon. Would you be of the same viewpoint?

Weebo · 27/07/2017 00:12

Who knew Pimms could cause a bun fight?

It always seems like such a polite drink.

MissDuke · 27/07/2017 08:51

I personally wouldn't do this. I would find it pretty weird if any of my friends produced cans of alcohol at a picnic too and definitely wouldn't accept any. But then I cannot imagine going to a picnic without the car as it is such a hassle trailing everything around otherwise. Maybe if I didn't drive I would feel otherwise about it. I think when you are used to driving everywhere, you get used to not drinking alcohol as a consequence! Obviously you won't be intending on driving, so assuming alcohol is allowed in this park (which is weird imo if it is) then it is obviously your choice!

youarenotkiddingme · 27/07/2017 09:06

We have large family bbqs. There is always jugs of pimms and Howard's of children!
I'm teetotal and my cousin makes me the non alcoholic one - because let's face it pimms is lush!

Spending the day at a picnic and having a nice drink is hardly crime of the century - just take plastic glasses and the fruit!

Parker231 · 27/07/2017 09:29

A lot of perfect parents here! Sounds like you never have a drink at a BBQ or party if children are present?

We regularly have wine with our family meals, have never been drunk (apart from student days!) and our children have grown up ok. DH's parents use to live on the continent where we would have long family meals with lots of wine and good times.

Migraleve · 27/07/2017 09:36

Wine with a meal is not the same as cans in the park though!

I have drunk alcohol at a few family gatherings where children were present, my issue here is normalising drinking in the park in the afternoon. It's not what I want my kids to grow up to do.

MrsMotherHen · 27/07/2017 09:42

Well i have certainly divided opinion here.

I am going to take the pimms still like i said am not getting trollied although i am only taking one can each not two (will save the other ones for my next bbq i think)

On drinking in the park am almost sure you can in this area its a fenced off area with a large green and bandstand stage. When they hold brass band shows and the such i have seen people with a bottle of fizz watching.

just to clarfiy am not swigging on cans while the kids are running wild at the playground. We will be watching a show having a picnic lunch on the green.

Then that sounds ok tbh.if it's into drink there.

Certainly the fact you can't even buy cheese with port in without id or with a toddler in tow hasn't done anything to reduce Englands drinking problems....

Nothing wring with kids seeing adults acting responsibily with alcohol.

CoughLaughFart · 27/07/2017 09:56

A couple of drinks you enjoy on a day out is fine. People equating it with getting pissed on meths by the bins are either painting themselves as holier than thou or spoiling for an argument.

Has anyone on here actually done that?! Confused

CoughLaughFart · 27/07/2017 17:32

Not to that extreme I grant you, but the implication that outdoor drinking is somehow 'not quaite naice' runs pretty heavily through some of these comments.

Guepe · 27/07/2017 17:37

I'd do it if I could OP.

Unfortunately it's illegal here (Canada).

I don't see the harm in it personally.

BroomHandledMouser · 27/07/2017 17:43

I'd do it op, and have before Smile

The last day of term, a load of us went to the local park with our children. We got our little picnic blankets out and sat - rather nostalgic - at how our kids have grown whilst the sun was setting...cider in hand.

It was a fab little evening.
