on friday me and a friend are taking the kids to our local park summer show (kids talent show on a band stand) think deck chairs snd picnic blankets and general kids games children sing on stage ect.

Anyway we are taking a picnic for us all and is it bad that i have ordered a few ready made pimms cans enough for two each.
Will i look like a plonky I am not drinking them to get drunk or tiddly am kust thinking it would be nice to enjoy a pimms on the grass in the sun having fun with the kids.

Is this a lunchtime/early afternoon event or an afternoon/early evening one?

If the former, I'd say YABU (mainly because I'd conk out mid-afternoon after a couple of cans of Pimms --> lightweight

Hudson10 · 26/07/2017 23:07

But I do think it's illegal to drink in a park so worth checking

Good point actually, as public places do have restrictions on drinking. I think children's parks would probably fall under this.

Migraleve · 26/07/2017 23:08

God I'm not saying don't drink in front of your children, but at a picnic in the park Hmm

Hudson10 · 26/07/2017 23:09

Can of Pimms is 1.4 units.

It's over 5% alcohol - that's pretty strong for a can. Even most lagers aren't that much.

Hudson10 · 26/07/2017 23:10

God I'm not saying don't drink in front of your children, but at a picnic in the park

Same. If we're not supposed to ever drink in front of our children, I can safely say I've failed miserably at that one Blush Grin

RedStripeIassie · 26/07/2017 23:11

Have fun. Interesting post. Pimms = ok according to mumsnet Smile

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/07/2017 23:12

PIMM'S!!!!!

Cantseethewoods · 26/07/2017 23:12

Well not if it was just down the swings on a Monday morning but I assumed this was a big event.

Cantseethewoods · 26/07/2017 23:14

Public drinking is governed by local by laws afaik so I know it's illegal to drink in the street/ parks in Brighton, for example, but it's not in the next town.

5OBalesofHay · 26/07/2017 23:15

Not a chance it would be ok. You'll look like a lush drinking around children

Theimpossiblegirl · 26/07/2017 23:16

A can of Pimm's is a lot smaller than a can of lager, so surely less alcohol in total even with the same abv?

toastandbutterandjam · 26/07/2017 23:29

a carrier bag of Wotsits and ham sandwiches whilst wearing trackie bottoms and a Vicky Pollard hairstyle

When I was back in school, I had one friend who I used to meet in the park often. She was always in black trackie bottoms with a Tesco carrier bag with a ham sandwich, bottle of coke and a bag of Wotsits - occasionally she'd have a bar of chocolate/packet of sweets Grin

OP, it's illegal to drink in all the parks here - there's always police/community officers patrolling too, so check that out beforehand! I wouldn't do it personally, but I don't drink. I know some of my friends would though.

SellFridges, your Fizz Fridays will be just the thing to fill a column on a quiet day in the Daily Fail.

Cuckingfunt1981 · 26/07/2017 23:32

I personally wouldn't but it's not to say it's wrong . Xx

friendlysnakehere · 26/07/2017 23:34

I would, clearly it's something to be judged for but I have reasonably successful children and a reasonably successful life, channel your inner Vicki pollard and screw the naysayers.

5OBalesofHay · 26/07/2017 23:37

Screw the naysayers is a bit strong for different views of whats ok Shock

friendlysnakehere · 26/07/2017 23:38

Sounds lovely, my kids are 4 and 6 and I feel quite happy having a few drinks while they play. We often meet with friends locally so no one has to drive and do the same. Us mum's stick to the middle class Pimms and Prosecco options while the dad's disappoint and reach for the lager.

friendlysnakehere · 26/07/2017 23:43

Nice, I always advance search people spoiling for a fight Grin. Poor old fox hunting granny. Not tonight my dear.

TartanDMs · 26/07/2017 23:43

Sounds fab. We had a team meeting the other day in St James Park, complete with picnic and prosecco.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 26/07/2017 23:44

I once asked on here about serving alcohol to parents at a kids party and was absolutely flamed for it being inappropriate.

Xmasbaby11 · 26/07/2017 23:48

Personally I wouldn't as the combination of daytime drinking and looking after my dc in public wouldn't sit right. I need my wits about me with my dc (they are 3 and 5 and boisterous) and drinking relaxes me too much.

I wouldn't judge others though if it was literally one or two.

Strokethefurrywall · 26/07/2017 23:48

Cuppa seriously, you got flamed?

Wow, where I live kids birthday parties are generally as alcoholic as most other parties!!

Nellysmagichat · 26/07/2017 23:50

Is this going to be like that thread started by a woman who had an alcohol problem, who was drinking a bottle of wine in the park while her kids played?

I think about her often, and I hope that she's doing ok. I was very moved by her posts, her pain was tangible.

[apologies for veering off topic]
