Anyway we are taking a picnic for us all and is it bad that i have ordered a few ready made pimms cans enough for two each.
Will i look like a plonky I am not drinking them to get drunk or tiddly am kust thinking it would be nice to enjoy a pimms on the grass in the sun having fun with the kids.

I'd like to know if those who think it's completely fine to have a couple of alcoholic drinks while in the park with your kids.
Would you feel the same way if the op had said about smoking a joint instead?

Shoxfordian · 26/07/2017 22:30

Yabu

Only 2 each? Hope you're taking some wine too

Migraleve · 26/07/2017 22:35

I wouldn't. The last thing I want to teach my kids is that alcohol is as commonly drink as a Diet Coke.

Cantseethewoods · 26/07/2017 22:35

Joint is different because it's illegal. I don't make the laws but I do obey them.

Cat2014 · 26/07/2017 22:36

Yanbu at all. I'd be taking a bottle of prosecco! Why on earth not?

starzig · 26/07/2017 22:40

Totally agree with hudson. If you saw someone on the strret pushing a pram with a can of strongbow or cheap lager what would you think?

starzig · 26/07/2017 22:41

Cantseethewoods. In most places drinking in a public place IS illegal

Hudson10 · 26/07/2017 22:42

Can I just ask those who says drinking from cans of Pimms in the kids park is OK, as well as cracking open a bottle of Prosecco - those are pretty "well to do middle class" drinks. (for want of a better word.)
What would be your stance if you saw me drinking from cans of lager in the park? (I don't like the stuff and wouldn't, but just wondering if that would be less acceptable?)

Cat2014 · 26/07/2017 22:48

Would be fine with me as long as you weren't obviously drunk

jpclarke · 26/07/2017 22:50

It's a family event that will have lots of children around, I personally don't think it's appropriate.

Cantseethewoods · 26/07/2017 22:52

Context is important. If people are obviously socialising/at an event then what they're drinking is immaterial. If they're alone and wandering back from the school run at 9am swigging from a bottle then I'd be a bit 'wtf'if it wasDiamond White or Vintage Krug

Supersoaryflappypigeon · 26/07/2017 22:53

It's a couple of cans of pimms ffs.

Yanbu op, but you'll get called an alcoholic by some posters on here.

Parker231 · 26/07/2017 22:53

Can I come - I'll bring Pimms and Prosecco! Have a lovely time and I hope the weather is good - we once had to take shelter in the bandstand when there was a sudden downpour!

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/07/2017 22:54

I wouldn't.i thought drinking in public places was illegal anyway?

Flyinggeese · 26/07/2017 22:54

I wouldn't. Wouldn't cross my mind to want an alcoholic drink at a daytime event in the park with kids. Never seen this done either. However judging by the responses here I'm in the minority...

Migraleve · 26/07/2017 22:55

people are obviously socialising/at an event then what they're drinking is immaterial.

Not really. If the picnic is a family thing then surely soft drinks would be a better 'Leah by example' choice?

Picnic which is adults only, yes take whatever alcohol you want. Picnic with children, just stick to Diet Coke because there is literally no need to teach your children to drink at every event going.

Whatsmore if people feel they need to drink then they have a problem.

Hudson10 · 26/07/2017 22:56

Fair enough then. I do think though that a day at the park -

  • a "cheeky can of Pimms" and/or a "glass of fizz" in the park in their frocks and picnic basket of olives and breadsticks

  • can of lager or Special Brew and a carrier bag of Wotsits and ham sandwiches whilst wearing trackie bottoms and a Vicky Pollard hairstyle

  • they're both the same thing. If neither is worth judging, then good stuff.
I rather think one would be more looked down on than the other but they're both the exact same thing.

starzig few places is drinking in a public place illegal, some town and city centres do it, but my local ones area specifically doesn't include any of the parks that ring the area when they easily could. Some parks I'm sure block it, but none of hte royal parks do for example.

Hudson10 · 26/07/2017 22:58

Yanbu op, but you'll get called an alcoholic by some posters on here.

Not by me even though I'm saying YABU Smile
As I said I like alcohol myself. I just wouldn't in the middle of the day in the park though with my kids.

WorraLiberty · 26/07/2017 22:58

I wouldn't but that's because I don't drink during the day (makes me feel weird).

However, given how strong those drinks are, it's your choice as long as neither of you are driving.

Cantseethewoods · 26/07/2017 23:01

Picnic with children, just stick to Diet Coke

Omg. You drink Diet Coke in front of your children? What is wrong with you? All those chemicals!!!!!!!!

I drink in front of my children all the time. It's good for them to see that alcohol consumption doesn't equal drunkenness.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 26/07/2017 23:02

Sounds like a great idea - hope you get good weather.

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/07/2017 23:05

God yes I'm sure places like England where the presence of alcohol is hidden as much as possible have far worse problems with binge drinking and underage drinking than the likes of France or Italy where it's normal for wine to be consumed with dinner and responsible drinking is far more obvious

But I do think it's illegal to drink in a park so worth checking

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 26/07/2017 23:06

Can of Pimms is 1.4 units. I definitely wouldn't drive after one but I wouldn't be anywhere approaching drunk after one can.
