We live in a village with several children who 'play out' at night. In term time it's bad enough. There's lots of cycling with no helmets, robbing the local shop of sweets and general misbehavior during term time.

Now schools out they've upped the ante out until at least 9pm each evening, screaming,shouting swearing and generally a nuisance.

Our road seems to be a designated hangout despite none living here. It's all old people surrounding us and it's driving me mad. I'm at my wits end already and we are only at day 2 of the holiday.

DD is sleeping upstairs with all the windows shut to keep the noise down AIBU to think after 8pm the shouting could stop? Or they could cycle home?

I am with you. The screaming from our neighbours children is not normal kids playing, its torture.

We were trying to move. No hope now it's the holiday and noise is constant. We are now trapped.

This is not a serious suggestion but ive always wanted to try the classic psychology experiment.. tell them you love the sound of them playing and give them all some money as a thank you. Continue this every day for a week or so. Then stop the money. They will feel that they were being paid for playing near your house and will ask for money. You say, Sorry, can't afford it anymore...but please continue playing. They say....fine, we will play elsewhere then.

That is awful advice in my opinion!! As said by the other poster it will either result in OPs house/property getting egged or damaged or the kids playing outside the house every time they want money. Even leading to knocking the front door and ringing the bell to "let OP know" they are outside and playing and can we have some money for it?

We have to deal with this but its actually in a garden behind our house, so I feel unreasonable saying anything. However, these kids are out there from about 9am to 9pm, and they scream and shout like they are being tortured! Its every (dry) weekend, and every day in the holidays. You can't hear anyone or anything else in the street just them.

How about installing one of those mosquito noise generators? Especially if your neighbours are all older they won't be bothered by it.

I would go and tell the noisy little shits to go away from your house and play outside where they live. If it carries on tell them the police (I don't mean call 101, maybe contact a local PCSO?) will be told about their anti social behaviour.

I wouldn't allow my kids to go and make that much noise late evening right outside someone else's house. It's so frustrating after a long day at work, and if you have a light sleeping baby that needs windows open in the warm weather.

This country now seems to have a generation of special snowflake children and teens who can do no wrong.

I suspect it will only get worse with the obsession some parents have with baby led and child led everything, not saying no, letting kids run wild and do what they want so they can express themselves, etc etc etc.

If it was me I'd just bear it for now, they'll get bored soon and move along. I understand how irritating it must be though.

I can't believe you put riding around without helmets and nicking sweets together and I think playing out till 9pm is fine, whereas the screaming and swearing is not.

Play classic music really loud, be the uncoolest place in the street to be.
