Dog bowl cleaning

To not expect people to not put a dog bowl which the dog has just ate from in the dishwasher with humans plates for washing? Anyone else think it's a gross thing to do? Or is it my OCD? Thanks! Confused

Even in a separate sink I can't see how you could get the water hot enough to clean them properly by hand

HipsterHunter · 23/07/2017 18:26

I just put the cats bowls into the dishwasher.

How is it any more gross than human meat really?

Cat saliva isn't some super toxic thing. The cat licks my hand and I haven't died yet.

gandalfspants · 23/07/2017 18:27

I've never understood the concern over things that are going to get washed afterwards touching animals or animal food.

Everything goes in our dishwasher - this will make most of you think I'm disgusting, but I once put the bin lid in there (on its own) rather than scrub it after it had been overfilled and was rather grim.

I also don't understand why my friend has a special 'cat food fork'. It's cat food, not toxic waste.

HipsterHunter · 23/07/2017 18:27

Oh, when I run out of cat bowls I use human bowls.

I honestly can't see that they are 'infected' with animal cooties after a bit dishwasher cycle.

Anasnake · 23/07/2017 18:28

Always in the dishwasher - not even an issue

spanieleyes · 23/07/2017 18:30

Anyone who thinks the dog bowl is the dirtiest thing in the home
a) hasn't seen my dog-everything he comes near is licked spotless
b) hasn't seen my home Blush

HipsterHunter - How is it any more gross than human meat really?

Grin just subtly dropping in a bit of cannibalism

slimceagirl · 23/07/2017 18:47

To those who have asked why I have a dog when I'm squeamish - I never said I had a dog, I haven't - I am referring to friends who do this!

At least I know I'm not completely mad as a lot of people agree with me!

And don't get me started on people who use human plates etc. to feed their dog/cat and then use them for humans after. Totally yuk!! Confused

Grin do you want me to post lots of links about human health improving when living with dogs?

slimceagirl · 23/07/2017 18:53

I don't doubt that but they're animals at the end of the day Hmm

Huffletuff · 23/07/2017 18:57

Dishwasher. Raw fed dogs so they need to be cleaned at a high temperature. Always a separate wash to human things.

PantPlot · 23/07/2017 19:00

they're animals at the end of the day

Precisely, so why wouldn't you employ the most hygienic way of cleaning their bowls if it's available to you?

friendlysnakehere · 23/07/2017 19:00

But there has to be logic to the argument surely other than them being animals?

If the germs are killed at high temperatures, along with salmonella from raw chicken, I don't understand the science?

friendlysnakehere · 23/07/2017 19:01

So do people run a separate wash to plates/dishes that had raw meat on them for humans? Confused

Laura1206 · 23/07/2017 19:05

I swill my dog's bowl round then put it in the dishwasher

Thinkingofausername1 · 23/07/2017 19:08

I don't see an issue as someone stated dishwashers are mostly on a high temp.

JigglyTuff · 23/07/2017 19:09

My dog and cat often sleep in bed with me - as in under the duvet. Putting their food bowls in the dishwasher with mine is minorly minging compared to that Grin

kaitlinktm · 23/07/2017 19:09

It's probably only a matter of time before the actual dog goes through a hot wash Grin

TeaChest100 · 23/07/2017 19:10

fourquenelles you're not alone!

jarhead123 · 23/07/2017 19:12

I always dishwash the dog bowl with the human plates :)

MrsJayy · 23/07/2017 19:16

If my family wasn't so ewww gross about this I would stick bowls in the dishwasher the water is about70 degrees the germs would be killed..it is the thought of it the freaks people out

BMW6 · 23/07/2017 19:24

Meh
My dog gets to lick our plates before we wash up and we don't have a dishwasher.
His bowl gets washed up after ours in the same water.

I give zero fucks if anyone thinks we are mingers Smile

Lloyd45 · 23/07/2017 19:31

Slimcegirl

You eat animals and then put that in the dishwasher and that's ok 🙄 We are all mammals and all have to live on the same planet, I can't believe how far some people are from reality

Olliver27 · 23/07/2017 20:40

All our dog/cat/hamster bowls go in the dishwasher. Not the hamster's water bottle though. Those melt.Grin

missiondecision · 23/07/2017 20:53

What other people do is their business.
I would never consume anything at a house that carried out the gross practise of washing their animals utensils with the human ones. I think opinions will depend upon if you have pets or not. Not having pets means I don't/wouldn't do it and infact consider it most disgusting.
