Dog bowl cleaning

To not expect people to not put a dog bowl which the dog has just ate from in the dishwasher with humans plates for washing? Anyone else think it's a gross thing to do? Or is it my OCD? Thanks! Confused

mummabubs, is this the same dog that probably goes out and eats horseshit or three week dead hedgehogs without so much as a worry?!

Queenofthedrivensnow · 23/07/2017 17:54

Dog big in dishwasher yeh why not.
Potty???? Boak

SpartacusSaiman · 23/07/2017 17:54

The dishwasher cleans chopping boards with raw meat on so think its fine killing germs on dog bowls.

Wolfiefan · 23/07/2017 17:55

I use a brush (dog one. Separate one for cats) and wash in hot soapy water in the sink. Not the washing up bowl. That's just for humans too. No film left.

LilCamper · 23/07/2017 17:57

The dog is part of our family. Bowls and feeding toys in the dishwasher. I honestly don't see the problem.

Cailleach666 · 23/07/2017 17:57

If you feel that squeamish then why have a dog? Dogs bring in all kinds of shit on their paws and coats.Other and their own shit, fleas, ticks, worms. All get spread on floor coverings and any time you touch them.
I would think food bowls s is one of the least concerns.

No problem putting the dog bowls in the dishwasher here, though as we've four they get washed by hand a lot as they don't always fit in.

The dogs also provide a very handy pre-wash service for stuff like (human) plates and pans Blush Grin

Much, much better in a dishwasher on a hot wash than in the sink where you will subsequently wash salads and fruit. Do not rinse in the sink first!!

The reason dishwashers are good at killing germs is not so much the temp of the wash, but the drying cycle. This is usually a steam cycle, so at least 100 degrees C.

Dishwasher too for me (but as I'm loading dishwasher I have to keep my dogs off from licking the plates in there, not always successfully so I may be too gross for you!!!)

Topseyt · 23/07/2017 18:03

I have always put the dog and cat bowls in the dishwasher. Said dog is now 13 and we are all still here.

Can't see what the issue is.

fourquenelles · 23/07/2017 18:03

Come on. I bet I am not the only dog owner that has dog in my case Galgo prewash? Many a time I have to haul a long nose or 3 out of the dishwasher prior to running it. 😁

Ours do a pre wash too, always hauling them out of it.

SquareWord · 23/07/2017 18:08

No it's disgusting. I was helping my friend to empty her dishwasher and was shocked to pull out her cat's bowls. Mine get washed in the utility room sink with a brush that's used only for the animal bowls.

Topseyt · 23/07/2017 18:08

Janus, same here. My elderly labrador always tries to give everything a doggy prewash when I am loading the dishwasher.

I do make attempts to hold him off, but it doesn't always work.

Anyway, I really don't see the point in buying a dishwasher and not putting every bowl or dish I possibly can into it.

mummabubs · 23/07/2017 18:09

@Zephyr01 😂 I have to say our dog is the most wussy thing alive and doesn't do any of the typical eating poop or dead things behaviours... he does have a whole host of other unsavoury habits though! My parents' spaniel appeared at their door with a deer foot hanging out of their mouths a few months ago... whilst at times I wish our dog was more "dog" it's incidents like that that make me feel grateful ours just wants to sleep on a sofa for 18 hours a day! 😅

mummabubs · 23/07/2017 18:10

That should read mouth... as far as I'm aware they only have the one!!

cricketballs · 23/07/2017 18:11

If you are so squeamish why have an animal?

PantPlot · 23/07/2017 18:14

In this house, if it isn't nailed down it goes through the dishwasher.

It's probably only a matter of time before the actual dog goes through a hot wash.

Our dog bowls go in the dishwasher. The perfect place for them.

Dragongirl10 · 23/07/2017 18:17

Here dog and other pet bowls are only ever washed in the utility sink...never with human bowls

KidLorneRoll · 23/07/2017 18:19

Of course it's fine to wash animal bowls with human dishes. What do you think the hot water you use is for?

LaurieFairyCake · 23/07/2017 18:21

Nope, it's cleaning them yourself that is the problem

There was something in the paper a few months ago that said your dog bowl is the dirtiest thing in the house - and it recommended putting EVERYTHING in the dishwasher

Dog bowl
Loo brush
Loo brush holder
Sponges
Scrubbing brushes
Outdoor tools
Plant pots

CantChoose · 23/07/2017 18:22

I put them in the dishwasher. Well, cat ones anyway,
I had a separate sponge for if I wash them by hand but the dishwasher is so hot it kills off any nasties.
