Has something happened? Wall St is not happy.

They know what Mooch is like?

Wait...
The US Independence was an elite revolution?

Roussette · 27/07/2017 19:23

Two speakers. Justice Dept spokesman and ICE.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 27/07/2017 19:26

I spent ages looking for an article about the department of education I might've linked before before I realised you meant the department of energy cozie Blush

Kushner didn't say edorgan was making turkey great again. Apologies for linking false
story up thread, albeit with a disclaimer.

Now I know how McCain can tolerate Trump.

Wow.

These character-building experiences have not diminished in recent days at the jamboree – Scouts have continued to trade patches, climb rock walls, and share stories about the day’s adventures. But for our Scouting family at home not able to see these real moments of Scouting, we know the past few days have been overshadowed by the remarks offered by the President of the United States.

I want to extend my sincere apologies to those in our Scouting family who were offended by the political rhetoric that was inserted into the jamboree. That was never our intent. The invitation for the sitting U.S. President to visit the National Jamboree is a long-standing tradition that has been extended to the leader of our nation that has had a Jamboree during his term since 1937. It is in no way an endorsement of any person, party or policies. For years, people have called upon us to take a position on political issues, and we have steadfastly remained non-partisan and refused to comment on political matters. We sincerely regret that politics were inserted into the Scouting program.

Wow, indeed!

I'm glad this statement was made by BSA.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/07/2017 20:05

Good statement by Scouts, Huckabee says she's not seen it, all she knows is she was an amazing energetic crowd supporting the president (paraphrased)

cozietoesie · 27/07/2017 20:06

I believe her about as much as I did Spicey. Grin

cozietoesie · 27/07/2017 20:13

Yes, sorry, Pain. I meant the Department of Energy. I already knew about the odd element of the piece (nuclear 'accidents' for example) but I knew nothing about eg ARPA-E. All told, I think I'll become merry tonight. Sad

Natsku · 27/07/2017 20:51

Good statement from the Scouts

CornwallLass · 27/07/2017 21:57

De-lurking for the first time to offer words of support to you all. It has been a dark few months, and I have struggled with many things in the world, but I have taken great hope from reading this thread. I feel informed, and do my best to inform others around me. Thank you. (By the way, I have a mental picture of the most prolific posters: Across, I see you on a deckchair with your gin on the edge of a wood, cursing the world freely in solitude, Lweji, I see you as a firebrand under clear blue skies, letting rip to all around you, Cozie, you strike me as calm and sensible, if a little prone to anxiety. I may be completely wrong, but it's nice to imagine!) Keep going, persist and resist. I'm off on holiday now, but look forward to reading all the updates upon my return.

lionheart · 27/07/2017 22:13

Hello Cornwall. Look away now.

'"I’m not Steve Bannon, I’m not trying to suck my own cock,” he said, speaking of Trump’s chief strategist. “I’m not trying to build my own brand off the fucking strength of the President. I’m here to serve the country.”' (Bannon declined to comment.)

WTF?

lionheart · 27/07/2017 22:45

At this rate, if this ever happens, it will be to keep people in the States.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 27/07/2017 23:03

Well, the Mooch has got off to a flying start in the infamous foot-in-mouth stakes. I wonder if he'll draw Trump's ire by eclipsing him in media coverage. No one is allowed to be more famous than Trump.

lionheart · 27/07/2017 23:35

Plainspeaking all the way.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 27/07/2017 23:40

From lionheart's Chicago Tribune link:

Just look at the debate over Obamacare. Republicans thrived politically by adamantly opposing it and promising to repeal it. But now they find that position unpopular with the electorate. Only 12 percent of Americans favor the Senate health care bill, with 53 percent in favor of keeping Obamacare. The amazing thing is not that the bill is so unpopular but that Republicans may enact some version of it regardless.

Appalling.

InigoTaran · 27/07/2017 23:45

This is appalling.

AcrossthePond55 · 28/07/2017 00:11

Three GOP Senators have refused to vote for the 'skinny repeal' of the ACA.

Not because it is wrong in principle, but they want an ironclad guarantee from Spkr Ryan that this bill will NOT be passed 'as is' by the House. I guess I'll take what I can get. But I wouldn't trust Ryan any further than I could spit in a Hurricane.

SanFranBear · 28/07/2017 00:17

I take the many points on board about the transgender announcement being a dead cat and I am grateful to see that there doesn't appear to have been anything more official than a tweet about it. However, whatever comes of it, I am both Angry and Sad over the hate speech and discrimination that Scrotus throws out there with no fucking consequence

Russia will sink him (I hope) but his legacy is going to stink for years and for those in the firing line and those who care about basic civil rights it is disgraceful.

I think I'm actually more Angry than Sad now... grrrrrrrrr, I have raaaaage!

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 28/07/2017 00:34

Spent all evening arguing with a corbynite friend about party vs country so I'm also feeling frustrated!

Deep breaths san'we'll get through this together

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 28/07/2017 00:39

also I'm pissed as a newt

saffronwblue · 28/07/2017 01:21

The Mooch is not exactly adding stability to the circus, is he?
Pain drink some water. More resisting to do tomorrow.
San I agree with the damaging and divisive legacy after they are all in jail. However it is also incredibly unifying and may also give momentum to human rights action.
