Thank you to the LGBT community! I will fight for you while Hillary brings in more people that will threaten your freedoms and beliefs.

Roussette

What he said 5 seconds ago is neither here nor there to him. It's what is signed that matters.

orlantina · 26/07/2017 15:11

I hope someone asks him why the LGBT community should believe a word he says.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 26/07/2017 15:12

Well nobody should.

Lweji · 26/07/2017 15:14

Oh, the arguments we had with pps who challenged our perception that he'd be bad for the LGBTetc community. It's sad to feel vindicated (in other respects too).

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 26/07/2017 15:17

I agree [cozie].

His base love Sessions. And I also agree that nobody can trust a word this man says. His words mean nothing, never mind promises or loyalty.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 26/07/2017 15:18

cozie.

orlantina · 26/07/2017 15:19

And I also agree that nobody can trust a word this man says

I think a journalist should ask him that basic question.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 26/07/2017 15:21

Why? There would just be more grandstanding and prevarication.

Roussette · 26/07/2017 15:22

Here is the reasoning ....

Just spoke to a Trump administration official about the transgender military decision. Here's what they said...

"This forces Democrats in Rust Belt states like Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan to take complete ownership of this issue. How will be blue collar voters in these States respond when Senators are up for re-election in 2018 like Debbie Stabenow are forced to make their opposition to this a key plant of their campaigns?"

So it's a shitty political strategy disguised as something 'My Generals' want. It smacks of Pence to me

cozietoesie · 26/07/2017 15:24

I'd just ignore it, however hard that might feel. There will be time enough afterwards.

Roussette · 26/07/2017 15:24

Oh yes Lweji I remember the arguments, I remember him holding the LGBT flat upside down, I remember supporters of Trump saying he'd stand by the community. Seems like yesterday.

Sigh.

*key plank (that should read! I couldn't save image as it was too small so had to type it out!)

orlantina · 26/07/2017 15:27

Who next?

Gays?
Women?
Muslims?
Vegetarians?

A Government pronouncement that people who belong to a certain group aren't allowed to work because it would be disruptive and expensive and distracting.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 26/07/2017 15:28

A Beast piece - borrowed from The Hill.

Except for Lincoln

cozietoesie · 26/07/2017 15:30

There will be many 'pronouncements', orlantina. Some of them will hurt more than others.

Best to concentrate on the main play, I think.

orlantina · 26/07/2017 15:40

I'd just ignore it, however hard that might feel

I'm sure the trans people in the USA won't. It's a signal to people. Trans people are cumbersome, a burden and a distraction. Oh, and it's ok to discriminate against us. Because we're such a minority, we're not deemed speaking up for.

First they came for the Muslims...

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 26/07/2017 15:41

I know.

Lweji · 26/07/2017 15:43

I remember supporters of Trump saying he'd stand by the community

Because he's such good friends with what's his/her name Kardashian step father/mother.

cozietoesie · 26/07/2017 15:44

And Yes. It does smell of Pence's hand/the GOP hand.

Gotta keep Pence happy right now. (I doubt that 45 cares either way.)

Roussette · 26/07/2017 15:46

Looking at the wording, looking at the timing, I think this is calculated. Nothing can be passed just like that. I think it is pure distraction from Russia probe. He's followed it up attacking Sessions again.

Trump announced transgender ban while his Defense Secretary was ON VACATION. Essentially confirms a political decision from WH, not DOD led

Lweji · 26/07/2017 15:49

Wait. Is it actually on paper? Or is it one of those things he announces that is just thrown into the air?

Gumpendorf · 26/07/2017 15:49

So Mattis is on holiday? Does he know?

Lots of speculation that Mattis and Tillerson will resign anyway as they are annoyed at SCROTUS pronouncing policy that contradicts the departmental approach.

Thanks for the O'Connell clip, cozie. The history was interesting and I got what the MTP was about and why McCain voted aye last night. It didn't explain why McCain subsequently voted aye in a more contentious vote later. The Republicans lost because it needed 60 votes to pass but I'm still bemused by McCain's tactics.

Given O'Donnells smooth summary of the next Act, cozie, I'm genuinely curious what you see as the main play? Smile
