To wonder why most of the tops in the shops are see through?

Is it the fashion?
Is it cheaper?
Shit quality etc?

Don't get me wrong, I can wear a vest underneath and I love floaty tops ; I have several see through tops as I love the pattern and style etc but it would be lovely to buy a nice top without having to layer occasionally!

it's cheaper.
mostly polycotton fibres or polyester as well, eurgh.

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 22/07/2017 18:37

I've noticed this too op

It's even with the better brands

Luttrell · 22/07/2017 20:24

It's cheaper, but the 'better' brands also do it to make mire money selling you the bralet or cami you'll need to wear underneath.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 22/07/2017 20:25

See through trousers are even worse.
I tried on some white ones yesterday, and you could see the freckles on my bum through them!

numbmum83 · 22/07/2017 20:29

But then I can't see how £20-£30 for a see thru top is justifiable . You get a pair of jeans in some shops for less than you pay for a cropped top .

puzzledbyadream · 22/07/2017 20:29

What's with sleeves at the moment too? They've either got bits missing (I don't want cold shoulders thanks) or are all flouncy which is not my cup of tea at all. Normal sleeves please!

ForalltheSaints · 22/07/2017 20:31

This does not apply abroad. Very noticeable when in Austria last week that tops were not see through.

Our clothing retailing is a disgrace in general, and it is sad that the sheep most people are means that people such as Primark and Sports Direct are even in business.

Drives me mad - I am a mother of 3 children, I don't want to be flashing my bra on the school run!! Grin

Nettletheelf · 22/07/2017 21:35

Cheap crap fabric. Try to find a nice, thick ladies' cotton T shirt! It's almost impossible.

Nice thick cotton T shirts for men, predictably, are easily found. Shops try to fob us off with viscose and modal.

Fruitboxjury · 22/07/2017 21:39

And dresses, I've sent two back this week because the skirts were sheer and with the light behind my whole silhouette was visible... despite them already having another (sheer) underskirt.

I don't want to wear vest tops underneath clothing, I appreciate if it's the style of top it's fine but if not then I would always pay more for quality.

I was looking for a top the other day and all of them seemed so sheer you couldn't just wear a bra underneath.

And YY to sleeves. just normal, not with weird cold shoulder bits or loads of billowing fabric.

malificent7 · 23/07/2017 05:52

Glad its not just me. What is wrong with a nice bit if non see through cotton or jersey. Polyester is shite!

Picked up a lovely lace top in New Look. No lining at the back. Fully lined at the front but bra strap hell at the back. Just why???!!!

A friend gave me a dress that is see-through. I'm not sure what to do with it? A full slip underneath? It's a cute dress, but I'm not sure how to wear it.
