Not to buy my daughter a Jojo Bow

She keeps asking for one and they're hideous lol.
She's only 5 years old but got some money from a relative and now is going on about buying one.

She also wants a belly top- I've told her to ask her dad Grin

Jojo bow - yes
Crop top - no

IggyAce · 22/07/2017 08:36

They are truly hideous, they make kids look like they have a second head. But if it's her own money let her get one, that's what I told my dd who thankfully decided to use her money for shopkins instead.

liquidrevolution · 22/07/2017 08:37

Say yes to the bow as the crop top is far worse imo.

pictish · 22/07/2017 08:37

Err...I think yab a bit u. They are extremely ugly and look ridiculous perched on the head like a virulent bird's nest of utter tack but they are also harmless. My dd has never mentioned wanting one so I haven't had to concede to this craze, but if she was desperate for one I would.

If that's what she wants to spend her cash on....

pictish · 22/07/2017 08:37

Belly top? Nah.

Luckymummy22 · 22/07/2017 08:39

Ok I'll let her buy one - just not sure when we'll next make it into town lol.

YANBU and doing her a favour. They are hideous. But I'm sure she'll make more fashion mistakes before she finds her style. I had a hot pink shell suit when I was 10 Grin

Luckymummy22 · 22/07/2017 08:40

The Belly too is a big no no.

I have compromised and bought her a couple of tops that tie at the front so you can see a tiny bit of skin - I bought the bigger size though Grin

I think they're hideous but my five year old has one that she saved up for and it brings her so much joy.

Your daughter isn't you, OP. She's allowed to express her own likes and dislikes and to have her choices respected. You can't force her to have the same tastes as you.

I would say no to a belly top because they are inappropriate for children and sexualising them. That's a different issue. But you're being controlling and unfair over the bow.

ClarkWGriswold · 22/07/2017 08:41

They are absolutely hideous but I would probably acquiesce if it made her happy. They don't seem that popular around my area thankfully as DD hasn't asked for one.

The belly top would be an absolute no no though.

Why is a cropped top in the summer an irresponsible choice for a little girl?

I can understand it in the winter. It would be irresponsible to not dress a little girl warmly enough in the cold weather but she won't be in danger of catching a chill on a warm summer day.

megletthesecond · 22/07/2017 08:46

Just let her buy it. DD has one and as appalled as I was at a bow costing ten pounds it has lasted and seems to be well made. She wears it playing out and on her bike and it's not fallen apart.

ShowOfHands · 22/07/2017 08:48

Jojo bows are hideous and fortunately, 10yo dd agrees.

What is the problem with cropped tops? I'm quite the prude irl but don't see them as sexualised. If I've inferred the issue correctly that is.

Mari50 · 22/07/2017 08:49

Hate Jojo bows and thought I'd successfully navigated the craze until DD was given one as a gift from a v favourite relative.
Good manners and all dictated an acceptance of the gift. DD now wants more. Has been told in no uncertain terms once the visit to relative is over we won't be able to find the jojo bow because somehow it will be lost forever on the trip home. Tragic

Hapaxlegomenon · 22/07/2017 08:53

Just googled jojo bows and I think they are quite cute Blush I would let me daughter wear one

mummag · 22/07/2017 08:55

Yeah what is the issue with crop tops. Sexualising? Really? Hmm

WinchSparkle · 22/07/2017 08:55

JoJo Bows are hideous but they do come in large (really hideous) and small (not so bad). I swallowed my dislike and brought one for my daughter yesterday for a great school report. A small one but she was happy :-)

gingergenius · 22/07/2017 08:55

I hate them but let my dd buy one with her pocket money!

What's irresponsible about crop tops? Dd2 (7) wears them all the time? What am I doing wrong??

Marylou2 · 22/07/2017 09:00

No to both. Just ghastly.

Luckymummy22 · 22/07/2017 09:02

When she does buy one I will take a lovely picture of her wearing it. Great for her 21st birthday party 😂

There's loads in claires' sale st the moment, we picked up 3 for £5 in the slough one, and they're £5 each in our local one.
I think they're on the wane the supermarkets and primark have cheap versions which usually signals the end of the trend.
It'd let her have both... especially if she actually wants to hand over her own money (they seem to be far tighter with their own money than mine...Wink)
