£350-400k for the last financial year.

He has ONE facial expression!

I think Charlie actor man, has had a good run for his money but quite frankly Spit the Dog has more emotional range.

And doesn't have an annoying face.

I remember Spit the Dog. Is he dead? Or is Bob wotsit dead?

Training up young people is great, but then what happens once they are established talent? Would the BBC just let them be poached by rival organisations willing to pay higher salaries? In that case all we've done is turn the BBC into a free training scheme for rival broadcasters.

BoysofMelody · 19/07/2017 13:26

The lesson here: employ Charlie from Casualty, Claudia Winkelman or Nick Knowles agent.

Winkelman interviews people in a shambolic fashion on Strictly after they've danced around a bit. Bit Charlie from Casualty? I doubt the BBC are fending off competition from Speilberg and Scorsese for his acting talents. He has been on casualty so long now that he's typecast, it would be a toss up between continuing as Charlie or regional panto.

DrDreReturns · 19/07/2017 13:27

It was a mistake by the Government to force the BBC to publish the salaries of their high earners. It will be inflationary as all the less well paid stars ask for better deals.

Cherrypi · 19/07/2017 13:28

Claudia also did film show and a radio show last year.

HarryBiscuit · 19/07/2017 13:30

Claudia Winkleman does 3 shows. Strictly, her radio show and the film review programme. Not defending it, but just to clarify.

I couldn't bear Terry Wogan. But what does that say about the BBC? They kept him on for years!

MargoChanning · 19/07/2017 13:34

Claudia no longer does the Film 2017 show.

Piffpaffpoff · 19/07/2017 13:36

It's like any business - I've you've been there forever, you always earn loads more than people would expect you to. I can't get too worked up about it tbh.

WormwooodScrubbed · 19/07/2017 13:36

There's some on the list I like (Chris Evans, Gary Lineker) and some I don't like (Lacey Turner, Kuenssberg, Andrew Neil) but who cares as I don't have a TV licence

IHateUncleJamie · 19/07/2017 13:37

Terry Wogan was an absolute legend. Chris Evans isn't fit to shine Sir Tel's shoes. IMHO of course.

As well as being genuinely shocked at Charlie Fairhead man's pay 😱 I'm also unpleasantly surprised that Bruno Tonioli is paid more for Strictly than Craig and Darcey. 😡👎 If we're watching SCD on delay, we fast forward Bruno - he's way too OTT and shouty.

Wholeheartedly agree that lovely Claire Balding should be paid more.

LaurieMarlow · 19/07/2017 13:39

What I'm taking from this is that Charlie's agent is an absolute legend and will be inundated with inquiries over the coming days.

IHopeYourCakeIsShit · 19/07/2017 13:46

Re Chris Evans pulling in more listeners than Sir Terry, surely that's because his show is aimed at children? There is a lot of child focused stuff, or at least there was when I listened (for the short time I could tolerate it)
Terry was in a different league.

PoppyPopcorn · 19/07/2017 13:46

I love the BBC - you don't appreciate how lucky we are until you've lived in a country where broadcasting is appalling. I hate how it seems to be trendy to bash everything the BBC does and slag off their programmes/presenters.

I would MUCH rather watch BBC than the endless shite with ant and Dec or Simon cowell which ITV churns out. Presenters are paid market rate for their services - I don't listen to Steve wright but millions do and he must be pulling in the listeners for radio 2.

PeroxideBosco · 19/07/2017 13:49

I remember when ER launched and it seemed so fresh and dramatic and well acted (and Charlie-less) I thought that would be the death knell for Casualty as no one would want to watch that turgid shite after seeing Clooney and Co do it properly.

I was wrong.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 19/07/2017 13:50

It will be interesting to see what Chris Evans earns in 2017/8 with no Top Gear to boost his earnings. It wouldn't surprise me if that was quite a large slice of his pay.
It flipping better be, or else he must know where some pretty significant bodies are buried. On the other hand at least he said of the disclosures (paraphrasing) 'we're the biggest public company, it's right and proper people know what we earn'. Whereas the sanctimonious, self serving, self righteous, pharisaic, pontificating and entitled twat that is Gary Lineker could only 'twatter' ' I blame my agent and other TV channels that pay more'. Nice one Gary, now fuck off.

PoppyPopcorn · 19/07/2017 13:50

Claudia also presented the Sewing Bee on Bbc2

PeroxideBosco · 19/07/2017 13:50

Like Australia. Australian TV is dire.

PeroxideBosco · 19/07/2017 13:52

I've become a fan of Lineker in the past year or so. He's ok in my book.

Elendon · 19/07/2017 14:00

Gary Lineker is no longer a footballer expecting £250,000 minimum A WEEK for their pay.

Obviously, that loss has to be made up somehow. Smile and wave, people.

HarryBiscuit · 19/07/2017 14:00

My mistake re Claudia and the film programme.

OP posts:
Callalily1234 · 19/07/2017 14:14

Laughing my head off at the "crisps in a chair". Love it!

BattyBagshot · 19/07/2017 14:14

Does Sue have a different agent to Mel?!

FRESHPRINCESS · 19/07/2017 14:19

I suspect that if they published the salaries for Ant and Dec or whoever does X Factor, they would be many many times more than what Claudia/Tess/Gary Linekar gets. I can't see what publishing these salaries achieved. Famous people getting paid a lot is not much of a shocker. Did anyone really think Chris Evans is working for minimum wage?
