£350-400k for the last financial year.

He has ONE facial expression!

I'd also chop Evans back. He's awful.

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 19/07/2017 12:08

The thing is that it's only 10% of their presenters that pull in about 90% of the viewers. So regardless of whether you like Chris Evans or back in the BBC day Jeremy clarkson, they both pulled big audiences and the BBC has to pay to keep them.

coldcanary · 19/07/2017 12:09

Can't get worked up about the amounts, if they're offered it they would be idiots to refuse!
The gender gap is ridiculous though.

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 19/07/2017 12:09

I agree on the gender gap though

NooNooHead1981 · 19/07/2017 12:11

Blimey! He's an national treasure though so I guess getting rid of him would be very sad...

I do like him in Casualty. He is a kind of reassuring presence. If he was a nurse looking after me, I'd be happy.

CaveMum · 19/07/2017 12:11

I like Chris Evans.

Don't forget his pay is not just for the Breakfast Show but also for the Children in Need stuff he does, and it will include his Top Gear pay.

As an aside, I bet Tess is fuming that Claudia is paid more than her Wink (obviously it includes her pay for other presenting/radio gigs).

PovertyPain · 19/07/2017 12:11

his show is essentially just functioning alcoholic (bigots) ranting at each other Fixed that for you Wips 😁 It's my guilty pleasure. I go from cringing at what 'outsiders' must think of us to giggling at how they end up sounding like comedy characters. 😳😁

DreichAgain · 19/07/2017 12:11

I don't go out of my way to watch Clarkson but he isn't a clone- type. I can see that he's not replaceable and therefore if wildly popular was worth the money.

Hulder · 19/07/2017 12:14

Charlie from Casualty is famous for not being able to act at all.

Steve Wright could be sacked overnight and no-one would miss him.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 19/07/2017 12:16

Actually I don't agree that it's always the presenter that pulls in the viewers. I think the programme format is much more important. For example, people who listen to The Today Programme listen because they like The Today Programme. See also Strictly Come Dancing, The One Show etc.

I do think there are a few exceptions to this such as Claire Balding, Graham Norton to name two, where people a tuning in to watch them. But only when they're the show; not just when they're hosting a show that anyone competent presenter could host.

Imo paying Chris Evans that much to stay OFF the air would be money well spent.

And £350k for the talentless Nick Knowles? It's a mad scramble for the remote whenever he appears on our screen.

It also seems very wrong for the fabulous, brainy and incisive Kirsty Wark to be paid less than the pigshit-thick one-trick pony Danny Dyer.

Freshprincess · 19/07/2017 12:17

They've just said on the radio that Chris Evans includes top gear.

I'm not bothered about the amounts either. If someone offered me buckets of cash to do a job, I'd bite their arm off.

Bloomed · 19/07/2017 12:17

It's interesting to see various disparities. I'd assumed Jo Whiley would earn more than Lauren Laverne. Also would have expected Sophie Raworth and Kirsty Wark to earn more www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-40653861

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 19/07/2017 12:17

but also for the Children in Need stuff he does

I thought they stopped paying for that as it's supposed to be for charity?

PossumInAPearTree · 19/07/2017 12:18

You'd have thought as she earns 500k Claudia Winkleman could afford some waterproof/runproof mascara. Every time I see photos of her on a night out she has mascara streaming down her face!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 19/07/2017 12:19

I wouldn't be surprised if Charlie Fairhead dies in catastrophic and unpredictable circumstances around about Christmas time...

HarryBiscuit · 19/07/2017 12:19

To clarify, I'm not against the big amounts generally and bloody hell, yes, Clare Balding, should be paid a lot more. I love the BBC and hate the bashing it gets. And I know that this plays right into Dacre's hands etc but at the same time I was Shock that such mediocrity gets so much money.

OP posts:
CaveMum · 19/07/2017 12:20

Moving I was under the impression that they don't pay them for presenting on the night itself. I was thinking more about the CarFest stuff he does.

MadisonAvenue · 19/07/2017 12:21

That makes depressing reading.

Steve Wright. Bloody hell. Although I suppose he has to be admired for how he ad libs "love the show" onto every message he reads out.

CaveMum · 19/07/2017 12:21

Don't forget that last year Clare Balding was still contracted with Channel 4 Racing so was doing less for the BBC.

greendale17 · 19/07/2017 12:21

Charlie from Casualty- yes definitely completely overpaid!

Wakemeuuuup · 19/07/2017 12:22

Biggest shock for me is Laura Kuenssberg. It looks like a lot of money but she's always working. Seems like 24/7, she probably gets paid about £5ph :) .

Chris Evans is not worth that much, can't stand him and Gary Lineker isn't either

lostincumbria · 19/07/2017 12:22

Chris Evans is paid £1 for Carfest.

alteredimages · 19/07/2017 12:23

How on earth are the highest paid actors on the BBC on Casualty? I am sure that Casualty is not the BBC's biggest money spinner. How does he earn more than Peter Capaldi?

I agree that Clare Balding should be given a pay raise.

I think that the news and current affairs salaries are about right, if not on the low side. Huw's doing well for himself. I love Huw though. Smile
