£350-400k for the last financial year.

He has ONE facial expression!

I think MPs should be paid more and some of these BBC twats a lot less.

alteredimages · 19/07/2017 12:24

Wakmeuuup I thought that too. She deserves more.

PittTheMiddleOneNoOneMentions · 19/07/2017 12:25

WTAF??? He's not even a very good actor IMO. He also has a very annoying face but that's a different point.

I'd be interested to know whether that £300k is a flat salary/payment for current work or whether it incudes royalties etc for repeats/DVD sales and usage abroad of past episodes and so on.

He's been in it for a looooong time so that would make more sense.

If it is just for his current "new" work (ie. just for acting in Casualty now) that is an utter disgrace.

derxa · 19/07/2017 12:27

Yes I like Laura K.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 19/07/2017 12:27

So it works then...it gets you to talk about this rather than more important things....

My dh said this would happen today. Raised by jealous MPs....

Anyone discussed the above public sector redundancy packages that the recent Tory MPs who lost their seats got? Or how they get to keep all the investment money from their properties that were funded by the tax payer?

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 19/07/2017 12:28

More important than the gender pay gap? Like what?

Assuming one can only ever talk about one thing ever...

Agree with pps that presenters such as Graham Norton, Clare Balding are worth it as people tune in for them as well as their show. In other cases I think it's more the show format that attracts people. I do love the Beeb, mainly as there are no ads but I'm pretty shocked at what some of the newsreaders get & at the gender pay gap. I also cannot believe some of the radio presenters get paid so much.

coldcanary · 19/07/2017 12:32

Sky's Beth Rigby put up an interesting tweet earlier this morning:
'Gossip from one of the Westminster parties; Apparently senior #BBC woman told MPs there had been lot of women's pay rises in last few weeks'

HarryBiscuit · 19/07/2017 12:33

Theworld there's plenty of discussion about the Tory MP packages and MPs pay etc, but they tend to be on politics threads and not on a thread about how much a Casualty star is paid...

Jesus Christ, does anyone still actually watch Casualty? I've not watched since about 1998, and no one I know watches it anymore. Charlie always was atrocious actor, if they let him go he's unlikely to get work elsewhere. Same goes for Adam Woodyatt on Eastenders.

MsLumley · 19/07/2017 12:36

It'll be very interesting to see what Jodie Whittaker's salary is compared to David Capaldi.

MsLumley · 19/07/2017 12:37

Or Peter, even 😳

Peabrain14 · 19/07/2017 12:38

I think with certain shows, e.g. casualty & the one show people just have them on as there is nothing else to watch. I don't know anyone who records them or are desperate to tune in.

LakieLady · 19/07/2017 12:41

Don't forget that last year Clare Balding was still contracted with Channel 4 Racing so was doing less for the BBC.

She does the Crufts coverage on C4 as well.

She's definitely worth more. I used to love her "Ramblings" programme on R4.

PossumInAPearTree · 19/07/2017 12:42

Surely the Carfest salary isn't paid by the BBC is it? I thought it was an independent thing he did, though God knows he plugs it enough on his show???

Scattymere · 19/07/2017 12:43

Alex Jones half a mill a year???! Utter joke. Most people cant stand the One Show.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 19/07/2017 12:43

He wouldn't be allowed to plug it if he was profiting from it.

Charitable stuff is unpaid and excluded from those figures.

TheNaze73 · 19/07/2017 12:45

End The Stealth Tax/ License fee & axe the BBC.

Rant over

RiversDisguise · 19/07/2017 12:46

How much is Balding paid then?

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 19/07/2017 12:47

Don't be daft TheNaze73. The BBC is a fantastic industry in its own right. Considering we have so little to sell because we make so little, axing the BBC makes no sense at all.

ZerbaPadnaTigre · 19/07/2017 12:49

Casualty's good for the ridiculous storylines. For a fortnight, the whole place was falling apart, chronic staffing issues, staff on strike, talk of working to rule... Fast forward a couple of weeks, it's so chilled they're popping out to do speed dating on their lunch breaks.

And all the while, Charlie is hovering around just existing. Poor acting aside, the character is really boring and doesn't actually do anything.

allisbright · 19/07/2017 12:50

coldcanary so wouldn't be reflected in this, but would be next year.

Surely the point of exercises like this is to draw attention to inequalities so that they can be addressed, and therefore pay rises for women at the BBC should be expected/welcomed? I don't see why that would be salacious gossip.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 19/07/2017 12:51

Paul Dacre, editor of the Daily Mail earns over £1.5 m a year..... There tends to be a lot of discrepancy in media salaries and the BBC us no different to any other organisation from that point of view.

I agree that the gender pay cap should be discussed and that is generally not what is being discussed.
It may not be fair that some people at the BBC get paid a lot, it also isn't fair that is you work for a bank you get paid considerably more than if you work for a hospital and you a less likely to be sued.
I absolutely can't get excited about this....but then I'd pay my license fee to listen to radio 4....
