WIBU to call in sick when I'm not sick?

I work in a nursing home and I'm due in on Wednesday.

2 patients were sick today and one had diarrhoea.

It's not definite that It's a bug yet and we won't be able to know until a few days.

It's my wedding day on Saturday.

Would I be being unreasonable to call in sick on wednesday to prevent myself any chance of catching the possible illness before my wedding day (providing I haven't caught it already)?

YANBU!!!!! Your wedding is only once. Please don't go in!

SummerMummy88 · 17/07/2017 17:43

Do it, I would usually be totally against it but as it is your wedding day really would consider it. You will never have another wedding don't let anything spoil your day. X

Floralnomad · 17/07/2017 17:43

YABU , I was a nurse for over 30 years , nursed cdiff and norovirus patients every year and never caught anything . If you catch things off patients it's down to you not doing something correctly .

Hammy12345 · 17/07/2017 17:48

It probably would look quite obvious, but it is your wedding day!! I would definitely not go in to work. I used to be a Nurse and followed good hand hygiene etc, but sometimes you do catch these bugs. You need to remember your wedding day for all the right reasons, not because you spent in in the toilet!

soulsearch1ng · 17/07/2017 17:50

yabu, and I guess you know it.

Aintgotnosoapbox · 17/07/2017 17:50

I think better to explain situation and ask them what to do.

EssentialHummus · 17/07/2017 17:53

Oh God no, do it!

thefutureisfemale · 17/07/2017 17:57

I would also say my DC are too ill for childcare and I will be staying off that day

CokeAttack · 17/07/2017 17:58

If you have been at work when these people had diarrhoea, I imagine that you've already been in contact with the bug (if this is a virus)

Groupie123 · 17/07/2017 17:58

Pull a sickie it's fine

I'd definitely do it. My wedding was much more important then work.

P.s I'll also do it for a holiday too

Summerswallow · 17/07/2017 18:01

I would ring in sick just this once, and I never ever ring in sick when I'm not sick.

To those saying it must be poor hygiene/practices, my guess is the OP might be working in a rushed and busy environment where everything isn't perfectly sterile/nursing standard all the time, even if she tries to be careful, so perhaps her chances are higher? Plus all the residents may be in together so spreading it, again before they have a chance to put measures into place.

I'd give it a miss this week, esp, given ages of your kids. Have a fab time on Sat!

I

ginorwine · 17/07/2017 18:06

Is it air Bourne ? If so hand hygiene may not help anyway ? I'd ask to swap or go off as it's exceptional
Circumstances !

ozymandiusking · 17/07/2017 18:08

Despite what the poster above who said she had never caught Norovirus, or D+V from a patient, I think you could pick it up very easily. It only needs one person not to have washed their hands properly, and you with no gloves on, and there you are!
So, in my opinion, don't ask for leave you may not get it. Just take time off and say you are sick. It's your wedding for heavens sake.
Nobody will ever be remembered for being at work all the time, or rewarded for it.

SheSparkles · 17/07/2017 18:09

I was swaying till I saw the age of your children- do it!

indigox · 17/07/2017 18:12

YANBU.

Sunshinegirls · 17/07/2017 18:18

I would call in sick if I was in your position, but I would do it in plenty of time so they can arrange to get cover. You can rebalance your karma by doing an extra shift to help them out another time. It's your wedding, once in a lifetime event! (Usually!)
I wouldn't risk it.

Chrisinthemorning · 17/07/2017 18:18

I think in this instance YANBU- it's your wedding!
Normally I'm anti pulling a sickie as well.

MulderitsmeX · 17/07/2017 18:21

Of course YANBU - this is your wedding day!! Agree that you should say the kids are sick- have an amazing day!

Usernom1234567890 · 17/07/2017 18:34

Can you take unpaid leave? Using a white lie such as the DC are ill?

Allthewaves · 17/07/2017 18:36

You could have booked the week off before the wedding if you are this worried about catching something. I'd see if you could take it as unpaid leave

ConstanceCraving · 17/07/2017 18:49

Seems a bit dramatic but seeing as it's your wedding day I would do it this time. Would be awful for you if you were all illS

ConstanceCraving · 17/07/2017 18:50

That was supposed to be a . Not a S!

jarhead123 · 17/07/2017 18:50

yanbu. No way would I risk it
