To complain about my G.P.?

Would I be unreasonable to put in a complaint?

I have gained five stone over the last two years, going from a healthy 10 stone to just over 15. I look shocking and it's had a hugely detrimental impact on me.

I went to the G.P. when I was at breaking point with everything and I made it clear my weight gain was very upsetting for me.

She prescribed medication (anti depressants) which is apparently also prescribed for people and animals to GAIN weight!

I am wondering if I should put a complaint in, but I don't know how and would I be the surgery equivalent of "that parent" at school?

If this is indeed true about this drug then the doctor should have monitored you carefully to make sure you weren't gaining any more weight. Go back and see the GP as others have suggested. Perhaps it's just a not very common side effect. But I do think you should have been alerted to it.

I found it helped to go low carb on those drugs. they can make you crave carbs and sugar. i did this with another lady on a MH forum (Elefriends) and we supported one another, it helped her as well. The site diet doctor is helpful and there are low carb support groups on MN too. Maybe that might help you. I like it as it is not depriving yourself or calorie counting,

Also since doing that have had the blood tests and they were fine, blood sugar VG and blood pressure.

Regarding different meds and weight gain, sure it is online in charts which ones are worse and which ones not so much. I can find them if you like. There are psych reports into helping patients on them as well, with healthy eating etc.

Also I found an article about meds and weight gain here might be helpful-

Interesting that some docs think weight gain means treatment is working as many present with weight loss during severe depression.
