Do you enjoy family life?

I don't! Four teen sons and a husband- all equally useless. They don't see mess, never cook or even make me a cup of tea and leave stuff everywhere. It really gets me down..
I never smile or laugh at home. I am constantly fed up and arguing with them about chores.
The only time i am happy is when i am out with my girlfriends or at work. This isn't right, is it?

No but it's familiar... sorry nothing to add except empathy as I find myself in the same place.

Draw up some kind of cleaning or cooking rota? You have a responsibility to teach them and not let them think when they are in relationships they can not lift a finger. Your husband should be setting an example too.

Are you a journalist?!

boggedoff · 16/07/2017 23:31

sounds right, i also get out and about from it all for my mental sanity Grin

AnyFucker · 16/07/2017 23:32

It's mostly thankless slog, it has to be said

If I didn't have an ally in my husband it would be a whole lot worse though

Yes, I love it. A bit twee but it's really everything I dreamed of. The good bits that is.

BackforGood · 16/07/2017 23:33

YABU to have brought up 4 teens who don't cook or even make a cup of tea, yes.
Oh, and yes, I enjoy a lot of family life. It's not utopia - comes with it's challenges, but on balance, yes I do. My family are nice people.

ConstanceCraving · 16/07/2017 23:35

Sounds like you let them treat you like a servant. No wonder you're unhappy.

Make the change.

dontpokethebear · 16/07/2017 23:35

Not really, I'm not cut out for it. That said, I don't know what I'm cut out for.

Totally empathise with this. Have you tried getting your husband on your side? You don't have to put up with this. If he's not willing to see things from your point of view, take two weeks off and go and stay in a hotel. That'll make them realise how much you do.
