Going at a ridiculous speed and then you end up at the traffic lights together?

DontTouchTheMoustache eeerrrmm no, its not something I do all the time, I like to be safe, but when a driver is tailgating me for the sake of showing off and driving 40mph on a 20mph, drives me up the wall and pisses me off, so I'll just piss them off myself.
Otherwise a normal driver I'll give them way by moving into the next lane to let them pass.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 18/07/2017 13:23

ArDali it doesn't matter how frequently you do it you are adding an extra distraction on the road. If you have anticipated they want to overtake you and then you start moving on purpose you are potentially going to throw off their manoeuvre. Why? What difference does it make to you if they overtake? Unless you are a police officer then you have no business policing the roads as you are making them more dangerous by doing so.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 18/07/2017 13:26

Fyi I have had situations where I'm on a dual carriageway trying to get into the inside lane before I miss my junction and the idiot next to me clearly thinking they are being clever by pulling shit like this and speeding up despite me indicating and essentially trapping me in the outside lane. I've then had to slow down so that they effectively undertake me to get out of that lane. It stupid and dangerous to dick about on the roads.

MaximaDeWit · 18/07/2017 13:32

I'm completely with Tatterdemalion and Turquoiseblueandgreen on this one.

I am a fairly new driver, drive 1.4 naturally aspirated Jazz and drive with my son in the car and am not interested in dangerous, risky driving BUT there is nothing worse than being stuck behind someone who isn't doing the speed limit where you can, who can't maintain speed so you have to keep slowing down if they get too close or who is generally driving in a way that's distracting. In that case what is the problem with overtaking?

bimbobaggins · 18/07/2017 16:45

There is absolutely no problem with overtaking maxima however judging by the comments on here some people thinks it a gauntlet being thrown down and they start driving like aseholes
All the people that have said they:
Start speeding up
Don't let people pull in
Deliberately slow down

You do realise that you are the ones being idiots on the road. If someone wants to overtake you just maintain your current driving and let them go past.

Good point I must say. I'm generally not a reckless driver and will always rather be safe, I wouldn't do things like this when I am aware of the danger it will cause in general like on motorways or dual carriageways etc, I'll let someone overtake. Just those one of drivers who take the piss sometimes. Especially the ones who want to overtake me while I'm approaching a traffic light??!! When there is no way for them to overtake but do anyway.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 18/07/2017 18:37

Yes fair enough Ardali only a total idiot would try and overtake when there are traffic lights or a roundabout for example. I think a huge part if driving safely is reacting to unsafe idiots and that can be as simple as not rising to it even if you think they are total morons as it could easily put yourself in danger.

Notknownatthisaddress · 18/07/2017 18:51

Not RTFT, but I love it when someone overtakes me on the way home from my local market town, on first bit of straight for 1.5 miles, and I turn off (left,) about 5 seconds after they overtake... Grin

Makes me go 'ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.' Smile

NoBetterName · 18/07/2017 19:37

Obviously plenty of drivers on here who are unaware of Highway Code Rule 168

bimbobaggins · 18/07/2017 19:38

That's good you get some satisfaction notknown but perhaps they aren't mind readers and don't know you are turning 5 seconds later seeing as you never mentioned indicators!

ArDali1 · 18/07/2017 20:14

DontTouchTheMoustache
I do agree with you on that. 98% of the time I just stick to my driving and mind my own business. There are a lot of crazy drivers (although I am guilty of my recent action of what I mentioned before)
One of the things that really pisses me off is when a driver is using their phone while driving!!

Perhaps I've misread your post but it's illegal (and you can be fined) to hog the middle lane in circs where you should be in the left lane. It might be easier to hog, but it causes congestion.

bimbobaggins · 18/07/2017 20:24

It is illegal tiger, unfortunately doesn't stop people. The Highway Code clearly states keep to the left unless overtaking. They even display it on the overhead gantry at times.
If you sit in the middle lane while not overtaking anyone you are turning a 3 lane motorway into a two lane one.
