to wonder why Philip Hammond hasn't been sacked??

for his remark that driving a train is so easy even a woman could do it.

Surely the bigoted arrogance, and total ignorance and low level of intelligence betrayed by this remark makes him totally unfit to be a chancellor, or in the cabinet, or even an MP.

If a cleaner could be sacked for such blatant sexism, why can't a chancellor

Can I have an example of a cleaner being sacked for such a remark?

What are your qualifications to assess whether he's fit to run the economy?

StillDrivingMeBonkers · 15/07/2017 11:48

And a direct quote rather some piffle heresay you've read would be good too.

""An ally of the chancellor said the anecdote had been “uttered by another minister unfairly characterising Hammond’s position”, and that he had been drawing attention to the disproportionately low number of women in jobs such as train driving.""

WorraLiberty · 15/07/2017 11:50

It's early days yet OP

He might well be sacked yet, or end up being 'forced to resign'.

Who knows.

LittleBooInABox · 15/07/2017 11:51

Really?

I'm sure it's out of context. For all that is holy and sane, I wish I had the time to be as offended as some people are.

My male friend reminds me I should be in the kitchen every time he comes over. It's words. Sweet jesus. I need to get off this planet!

SleepingTiger · 15/07/2017 11:52

Absolutely agree OP.

But he can do basic arithmetic unlike Diane Abbott. The fact that she is a woman is irrelevant to her miscalculation, but I am sure the chancellor thinks otherwise.

WorraLiberty · 15/07/2017 11:59

My male friend reminds me I should be in the kitchen every time he comes over. It's words.

To be fair, that's nothing like this situation.

1.) He's your friend

2.) He's in your home - not the workplace.

ClopySow · 15/07/2017 12:13

That's just silly and in no way comparable.

viques · 15/07/2017 12:16

"I need to get off this planet" don't be silly littlebooinabox, you know only boys can drive rockets.

Valentine2 · 15/07/2017 12:16

When small men start to cast a long shadow, the sun is about to set.
This is the kind of people running the country into the ground of course.

StillDrivingMeBonkers · 15/07/2017 12:18

Read the OP clopy :

I want an example if the OP is going to make sweeping comments about cleaners being sacked.

CloudPerson · 15/07/2017 12:19

"But he can do basic arithmetic unlike Diane Abbott."

Wasn't he £20 billion out with his figures for the high speed railway?

StillDrivingMeBonkers · 15/07/2017 12:21

Actually I think these sorts of threads say far more about the OP's s a rule - there are never any facts, just hearsay, OPs want| to believe them without doing any basic research or fact finding.

Of course, in this country, we habitually go round sacking people on hearsay don't we? Because of course there is no legislation to prevent gossip and slander and libel is there? Hmm

JamAndBread · 15/07/2017 12:30

'My male friend reminds me I should be in the kitchen every time he comes over.'

What a dick.

Valentine2 · 15/07/2017 13:00

I would much rather we bring legislation for equal pay, do not go down the Trump route to abort maternity rights, stop work place harassment and discrimination and make sure women don't lose or the way they still are losing out due to common bigotry like Mr Hammond's. He said it in a cabinet meeting. I can't imagine what he is like in person then?

Valentine2 · 15/07/2017 13:01

He looks like he is the kind of man who judges CVs based on the age of the women applicant.

user1497480444 · 15/07/2017 19:20

there are never any facts, just hearsay,

are you claiming he didn't say these things?

and yes, we did have a cleaner sacked for saying something similarly sexist
