I have so many egg cups I'm happy to post some out as a matter of urgency.

I cant believe the whole of the US has been managing without them Sad

Is that why mac 'n' cheese in a packet is a thing over there? Because dippy soldiers isn't an option?

Please.

Signed, this US transplant MNer!!

(It's not that they're impossible to find, they just went out of fashion in the 50's and 60's so they're scarce.)

SerfTerf · 14/07/2017 17:05

How have you been managing @gwenneh ?

PM me your address and I'll pop four in the post for you Smile

I've been unable to sleep last night for the sadness of this whole egg cup thing.

Is it really a childhood without dippy toast soldiers? Sad

MissCherryCakeyBun · 14/07/2017 17:07

Can we also arrange decent chocolate and cheese not to mention tea pots
and cosies Grin

SerfTerf · 14/07/2017 17:08

We could do airdrops @MissCherryCakeyBun Grin

ScarlettDarling · 14/07/2017 17:09

So how do people in America eat dippy eggs?

SerfTerf · 14/07/2017 17:12

I don't think they do eat them @ScarlettDarling

MissCherryCakeyBun · 14/07/2017 17:13

I now have images of little egg cups on parachutes GrinGrin

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 14/07/2017 17:15

I still have my Crate and Barrel egg cups I bought when I lived in the US!

SerfTerf · 14/07/2017 17:24

@TheWildRumpyPumpus , Is crate and barrel posh?

Are egg cups in America the same as fish knives here? This is confusing.

I now have images of little egg cups on parachutes

That's just rubbish! I'm British, live in the US and you can buy egg cups here, particularly around Easter time.

thesleepingdogsarelying · 14/07/2017 17:36

Off topic but I have just discovered that the hobby of collecting egg cups is poccilovy. So serf is an unintentional pocillovist.

gwenneh · 14/07/2017 17:39

Serf I would consider it an act of immense kindness! :D My children are deprived of their egg & soldiers and have had to make do with hard boiled eggs and toast since we left the UK.

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 14/07/2017 17:58

Not particularly! Just a furniture/homeware store - we bought almost everything from there as we moved over there with practically nothing.

JamesSpaderMadeMeDoIt · 14/07/2017 18:06

Hahaha @MissCherryCakeyBun 😂

Tangfastics · 14/07/2017 18:11

It was on the news this morning that Mac N Cheese has some weird harmful chemicals in.

I'm in mourning Sad

Iflyaway · 14/07/2017 18:14

FFS. Nothing better to do with your life than talk about fucking egg cups?!

Hmm
steff13 · 14/07/2017 18:16

If by "dippy eggs" you mean poached or soft-boiled, of course we eat them. Do you all not eat eggs Benedict? There's a poached egg in that, and it's an American recipe.

And of course they sell egg cups here. Bed Bath and Beyond sell them, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, even Walmart. I usually cook them out of the shell, and just put them on a place.

steff13 · 14/07/2017 18:16

plate

ScarlettDarling · 14/07/2017 18:21

@steff13 A dippy egg is a soft boiled egg, served in the shell with it's top cut off so that you can dip your toast 'soldiers' into it!

steff13 · 14/07/2017 18:35

You can also dip toast in a soft boiled egg if you put the egg on a plate. But yes, of course we have them and egg cups.

blukite · 14/07/2017 18:50

I had no idea what a dippy egg was until I read this post, they sound horrible. I've never used an egg cup either. Am I banned now Grin

Noofly · 14/07/2017 18:59

I'm glad others have pointed out that you can buy egg cups in the US because having grown up there and swearing that we had egg cups, I thought I was going a bit bonkers and had maybe conjured up the egg cups through my imagination!

SerfTerf · 14/07/2017 19:00

Oh dear, I didn't know it would cause a rift.
