Continuation of the discussion.

It looks highly unlikely that there will be a verdict today as GOSH have not yet been able to put their case across. The Gard family had their position heard this morning and currently an expert witness from the US is being questioned via video link.

Have we coined a new acronym?

OPDS: Online Princess Diana Syndrome

0nline · 14/07/2017 08:36

Princess Diana syndrome

^^Yes. I think you are on the money there. Probably what we see now is the web 2.0 evolution of what fuelled that.

LapinR0se · 14/07/2017 08:37

My link above is GOSH'a ful writen statement presented at court yesterday.
It is surprisingly emotive.

LapinR0se · 14/07/2017 08:37

GOSH's full

Alittlepotofrosie · 14/07/2017 08:39

Good post @0nline

ShatnersWig · 14/07/2017 08:39

I really hope the Judge follows through on the action against trolls. I believe every single person who sent a violent message or death threat to an individual member of GOSH staff, Charlie's guardian, her barrister, GOSH barrister or towards GOSH staff as an entity on either their own FB page or the CA FB page should receive a similar sentence.

By my reckoning, I suspect there are probably well over 100 people who could be done for this. And by heck to suddenly see a mass of people being sent down for a couple of months for this would be a serious message to online trolls of all sorts.

Katinkka · 14/07/2017 08:39

So many grammar and spelling mistakes in that GOSH NHS submission.

muckypup73 · 14/07/2017 08:40

TheWeeWitch, its laughable, how can they say that?

muckypup73 · 14/07/2017 08:41

ShatnersWig, I agree they would think twice about doing that again.

ShatnersWig · 14/07/2017 08:45

Katinka In the scheme of things, does that matter? This was all done with some haste. Hell, I received a letter from a solicitor on my 21st birthday informing me someone had left me all their books in his will. It was about three lines long. There were 3 spelling mistakes/typing errors. It mattered not.

Halsall · 14/07/2017 08:45

JustDance Yes. Sadly.

LapinR0se · 14/07/2017 08:46

Just read a few more things. Seems this morning's meeting is a discussion and at 2pm there will be an update on when the multi disciplinary meeting will actually happen.
How awful and inconclusive.

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 14/07/2017 08:48

Lapin, thanks for the link to the position statement.
It's quite an upsetting read but helpful to know their position as it was yesterday morning.

NellieBuff · 14/07/2017 08:49

Katinkk and the point is? I noticed a copy but nothing of significance and did not take away from the substance and intent.

nauticant · 14/07/2017 08:52

By my reckoning, I suspect there are probably well over 100 people who could be done for this.

I imagine the police wouldn't be too keen on putting in the resources to tackle this but I think there would be a real public interest in pursuing this properly. This kind of problem is going to grow and a message like this now on a high profile case where the public will have no problem seeing right vs wrong and would be able to actively support prosecutions would be helpful to just about anyone who isn't an enthusiast in making death threats/threats of violence over the Internet.

I mean, if this isn't properly pursued when the Establishment gave this their very all, then something is definitely wrong.

Katinkka · 14/07/2017 08:56

The point is that an important document should be spellchecked and shouldn't contain obvious mistakes.

ShatnersWig · 14/07/2017 08:57

nauticant I stand by what I said on an earlier thread. I would very happily contribute financially to a fund to help pay for the police time in pursuing these people. Many of us took screenshots and it would take very little time to identify where these people live. I genuinely think online trolling is becoming a very serious issue and the only way to try and reduce it is to send some very serious messages about the consequences of it. This to me seems the ideal opportunity, following on from the Gina Miller conviction. If people think they can get away with death threats and threats of violence to NHS workers who are caring for seriously or terminally ill children, they need a major wake up call and they need it now.

And I still believe at the same time, they should have their rights to free NHS treatment withdrawn.

NellieBuff · 14/07/2017 08:57

I heard the CA have started a petition on Citizens org - does anyone know what the actually petition is about? Just curious really as what on earth do they hope to achieve by it

Hollycatberry · 14/07/2017 09:02

Lapin thanks for posting the link to GOSH's statement.

Interesting to note that one of the key differences between Charlie's parents and GOSH is their belief that only they should represent his interests. Effectively saying he shouldn't have his own representation. Am wondering how they will be able to overcome this in any type of mediation if they fundamentally believe only they have the right to decide his treatment alone. It indicates they will never agree on this point and there will always be stalemate.

muckypup73 · 14/07/2017 09:03

NellieBuff, if its anything like the last one, they were putting peoples names on there that haddnt signed.

LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 09:04

Just read the full statement above- thanks Lapin.

I noticed the doc yesterday asked for an assessment by a paid neurologist, and in that statement it says (with regard to assessing Charlie)

"reports were obtained from a paediatric neurologist at a London hospital and a report from a paediatric intensive care specialist at a different London hospital. In addition, a second opinion on nucleoside treatment was obtained from a mitochondrial specialist in the North of England. All three independent opinions confirmed the parlous nature of Charlie’s condition and his very poor prognosis."

Does this mean the doc is not aware of this? It is a bit odd.

LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 09:06

I also noticed how they have brought emphasis to the statement from yesterday, (where the Gards stormed out) about the agreement between both sides on the quality of life, This seems key-that even with the treatment, even if it did work in a small way, would that improve his quality of life?

nauticant · 14/07/2017 09:09

I genuinely think online trolling is becoming a very serious issue and the only way to try and reduce it is to send some very serious messages about the consequences of it.

I definitely agree* and think the day isn't too far off when we'll see some poor sod injured or killed by a nutter inflamed by an out of control social media campaign.

  • but not on the withdrawal of treatment point
NellieBuff · 14/07/2017 09:10

Katinkka I noticed two minor spelling mistakes all to so with the use of a hyphen (and one rule that causes no end of argument in our office) and whilst the grammar is clunky only one sentence could be described as grammatically wrong.

Mucky thank you - wouldn't put it past them

rabbitnothare · 14/07/2017 09:14

I am with you on firm action now for online abuse and trolling, also dumbfounded at CA saying no abuse from them.

Thank goodness for screenshot facility.
