To think putting your baby on the floor under the seat on a plane is not cool?

Just flew back yesterday from holiday and there was a couple across the aisle from me on the plane. They had a baby about 8 months and a toddler.

As soon as the seat belt sign went off after take off the mum sat her baby on the floor at her feet. Budget flight so no room at all hardly. The baby sat chewing on the dads shoe that he has taken off.

Mum then gives the baby her bottle and she falls asleep so mum lies her under the seat in front at her feet. The baby's head was right next to the aisle all this time with people passing and also the trolley going up and down. I thought the baby was going to get kicked or stood on.plus the floor was filthy with crisps and god knows what from the previous flight.

I actually offered to hold the baby in the end as I was so worried she would get hurt. The mum said no she's fine, thanks.

Would you have said anything in these circumstances.
It just would never have crossed my mind to put my baby on the floor of an aeroplane.

""plus the floor was filthy with crisps and god knows what from the previous flight""ev

Who did you fly with? I've never got on a plane that hasn't been cleaned.

The trolleys have a ledge on the side, sothe bottom is further out than the top. They may have forgotten a blanket to put down. We've been away in a big group and someone always pays for the extra leg room and the babies in our group will be put on the floor.

They baby was happy and the Mum did what she needed to, so the baby could sleep.

You, however are a weirdo who takes pictures of very young children who you aren't related to and share them with your BF.

Are you one of those 'shaming' dickheads on Facebook?

emmyrose2000 · 13/07/2017 01:16

YANBU

How dangerous and stupid.

The thought of anyone chewing on shoe makes my stomach churn. Yuck!

I'm shocked the staff either didn't notice or, if they did, didn't do anything about it.

BeepBeepMOVE · 13/07/2017 01:19

It's the next the the aisle bit that is bad. People trip or drop things from the overhead lockers, people push past trolley they wouldn't be expecting a baby not the floor

BeepBeepMOVE · 13/07/2017 01:20

Even just two people passing in the aisle, one going to the loo and the other returning, a foot into a seating row when squeezing past, that would have crushed baby's hand easily!

keeplooking · 13/07/2017 01:41

Don't be so ridiculous.

honeyroar · 13/07/2017 01:56

It never fails to amaze me that parents will risk their child's safety for the sake of keeping them quiet on a plane. There was a huge chance of them getting bumped by a trolley (crew can't see what's on the floor immediately behind the trolley) or someone's foot. In turbulence the child would be launched up and hurt themselves, and if there was a sudden decompression your child would be unconscious in the time it took to fit your mask, pick them up and put a mask on them.

MrsOverTheRoad · 13/07/2017 01:58

See...if you were invested enough to take a PHOTO of someone else's child OP, youshould have been invested enough to say something to the crew.

It seems very odd to me that you'd photograph the situation, post about it on here and yet not bother mentioning your concerns to the crew!

happinessisoverrated · 13/07/2017 02:09

YANBU - everyone knows babies should be put in the overhead luggage locker.

LadyPenelopeCantDance · 13/07/2017 07:16

Autofill, a few light bumps of turbulence they would pick her up of course, but it's not uncommon for planes to hit airpockets and suddenly drop with no warning.

HerRoyalNotness · 13/07/2017 07:25

Apart from turbulence issue, I wouldn't care about this. Babies aren't so precious that they can't lie on the floor, unless they're naked and covered in cuts where germs can get in

Fruitcocktail6 · 13/07/2017 07:28

If you hit turbulence, the plane can jolt suddenly. How would they have time to pick her up?

I agree op, it's dangerous and stupid and weird. But god forbid criticising awful parenting on MN.

caffeinestream · 13/07/2017 07:31

I really can't get worked up about this.

I have vivid memories of sleeping on the floors of planes as a kid - I'd sit on the floor to play or read and often woke up there, or got a blanket and pillow to make a nest.

However I am surprised it was allowed, as last time I flew I was sat near a couple with a toddler who wanted to sit on the floor and the cabin crew told her parents she had to be sat on a seat.

StinkPickle · 13/07/2017 07:33

Nothing to do with you. I'm sure the cabin crew saw if it was 90 mins and the fact they didn't say anything gives you your answer.

HotelEuphoria · 13/07/2017 07:49

Can you show us the picture you took so we can make an honest judgement?

It depends for me if I am honest. DS has slept on the floor on a plane before aged about three, we had exit seats though, and if there had been room I would happily have slept on a floor as an adult with some of those three plane and 30 hour journeys I've done before now.

user1495025590 · 13/07/2017 07:49

How would the trolley's wheels have got between the seats?

HotelEuphoria · 13/07/2017 07:51

For those commenting on the exit seats we were a party of ten so it was adults that were allocated the exit seats!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 13/07/2017 07:54

So what ? It's not what I would do but I find it baffling you could even be arsed to post about this

Let it go.,.. we live in an imperfect world

NicolasFlamel · 13/07/2017 08:03

No, let's not share photos of someone else's child on a public forum without their consent! Confused

BarbarianMum · 13/07/2017 08:25

If they hit an air pocket the baby will get jolted regardless. It won't be notably worse because she's on the floor. If she was in her mum's lap she could just as easily hit her head on the window or seat or tray or have a drink spilt on her.

Can't get too aerated about it tbh

HipsterHunter · 13/07/2017 08:29

What's all this hysteria about turbulace? How is it worse being on the floor or lying across a lap? Both unrestrained.

Fruitcocktail6 · 13/07/2017 09:04

Because the baby could hit their head or injure themselves on the underside of the seat, or the metal legs under the chair. Rather than being held by their parent.

MyrtlesMaracas · 13/07/2017 09:35

Cant believe anyone would do that or the cabin crew would allow it.

NemosKnickers · 13/07/2017 09:36

I've got no issue with a kid being on the floor. But how on earth did it fit without having a face full of metal from the underside of the chair?

grandOlejukeofYork · 13/07/2017 09:47

Not your baby, not your business. Baby was fine.

As for that campaign to force all parents to buy seats for babies, no thank you!
