Next are a bit precious about their sale, aren't they?

I've received an invitation for the Next sale for the first time.

I've been meaning to buy a few holiday clothes so I clicked the link and was faced with The Rules.

Including that I must not let anyone else use my slot, and if I don't add an item to my basket within 20 minutes I'll be booted out. Oh, and if I don't buy anything I'll be put on the naughty list and wont be invited again. GrinHmm

I've received an email copy of The Rules to internalise before the big event.

And I have to schlepp to the store to collect!

Why oh why do they have their models modelling dresses with a fucking coat over the top?? Or slumped in a chair? Stand up woman, I want to know the length ffs.

Next is incredible for kids stuff but the Sale is dog shit! There's always disgusting stuff in the sale that they've NEVER in their lives sold at "full price". It's a massive con!

They just bring in cheap shit to sell in the sale.

MikeUniformMike · 12/07/2017 20:19

Years ago, Next was great. I'd walk in and see lots of things I liked. The sales weren't very good as the nice stuff would be in tiny or large sizes.

About 10 years ago I was given a gift card. I couldn't find anything I liked despite going to several of their shops. The children's stuff is nice though. I hardly ever go in there now.

I have to say that I do see things I like in M&S but I will not buy jackets, skirts and trousers without pockets or dresses without sleeves. I have pretty decent arms for my age but I don't feel dressed at work in sleeveless things. The per una stuff used to be OK until it all started to look samey.

SouthernComforts · 12/07/2017 20:21

This dress.. what are you? Do you have sleeves? WHO KNOWS

My slot was at 5:30 tonight and I got a load of home stuff and two pairs of trousers. Some of it will go back though. It was annoying though as half the stuff I added to my basket was out of stock by the time I checked out and some won't be coming for 4 weeks.

JemimaCuddleFuck · 12/07/2017 20:26

Next used to be a bit special 20 years ago. But I haven't bothered with it for years due to poor quality fabrics and cheap manufacturing. When you look through the doors it's just acres of polyester and nylon.

I have a friend who works for Next and much of their sales stock is actually several years old.

IMO their stuff is no better than clothes in shops like Dorothy Perkins or Matalan.

caffeinestream · 12/07/2017 20:27

What's the point in the Next sale? I've never understood the appeal, or why slightly mad people queue up at 5am for it Confused

ConstanceCraving · 12/07/2017 20:31

Next is posh Primark. At a push.

NameChanger22 · 12/07/2017 20:33

I've never understood why people get up at 5am for the Next sale??? Can anyone explain it to me?

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 12/07/2017 20:47

What Constance said.

SouthernComforts · 12/07/2017 20:56

That was exhausting.

Next was amazing in the 80's, and the Next Directory was a thing of beauty! Now it's just another shop selling (not so) cheap throwaway fashion. The Hepworths quality tailoring is forgotten, yet people still flock to the stores to buy what they sell now, so they either must be still be doing something right, or people think they're still buying the quality designs of yesteryear.

BlueIsYou · 12/07/2017 21:12

Can anyone advise why I haven't been given an email about the sale/been given a slot? Sad

I am the person who queues up at 4.30am on Boxing Day Blush When is the in store sale on and is it open as early as Boxing Day?

I bought online recently too although maybe they don't want me anymore because I returned half of it

BlueIsYou · 12/07/2017 21:14

I went at 4.30am on Boxing Day. I got some lovely pjs for myself and lots of Sleepsuits. Even a gorgeous Winter coat for DNiece, down to £12 from £30.

To most it wouldn't be worth it but I am a bit crackers Grin

ConstanceCraving · 12/07/2017 21:37

4.30am for PJ'S ShockGrin utter madness!

Strokethefurrywall · 12/07/2017 21:45

I recently returned from a quick week in the UK to see family and each time I've gone back to the UK for the past decade, I've managed to find a few bits for me and loads for the kids.

This time though? Utter shite. I couldn't find anything for the kids, all I wanted were 2 hoodies! DH had been back to the UK about 3 weeks prior to me and came back with a couple of very uninteresting t-shirts for the kids and said there was nothing else. I thought he just wasn't looking hard enough! Nope, he wasn't wrong!

Boring, unimaginative and that was just the kids stuff. The adult stuff was rubbish. And I visited 3 separate branches, including the Oxford Street branch and reached the same conclusion at each.

They've massively nose dived in the last 2 years! The only thing I like in Next are their bikinis, but again this years weren't that interesting.

Mysteriouscurle · 12/07/2017 22:05

Dont think I could be bothered to shop with a company that lays down a list of rules including that I must buy from them. Happily for me I haven't seen anything I've liked in Next for many years.

seasonschooner · 12/07/2017 22:07

Next is twaddle. I had a voucher for Christmas and couldn't find a thing so spent £40 on socks and sweets. Confused

OublietteBravo · 12/07/2017 22:18

I don't get on with Next. Their sizing is huge - and they hardly ever have anything in a size 6 which is often too big for me anyway - despite being a size 8/10 in most shops.

Plus their girls clothing is all pink, glittery, frilly shit that DD refuses to wear (indeed, I fear the glitter has started to infect the women's wear).

The only thing I ever buy there these days is underwear for DS.

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 12/07/2017 22:26

seasons I was given Next vouchers too. I couldn't find any clothes or house stuff I liked, so bought loads of Christmas wrapping paper and gave the rest of the balance to the man behind me in the queue.

DrHorribletookmycherry · 12/07/2017 22:27

Next is a handy place to buy a bunch of ridiculously cheap stuff for holiday, leave it all behind so you can buy nice stuff when away. The only advantage over Primark is you might actually find an item as they try to be a bit more tidy.
Though the sales are basically TKMaxx after everyone had a rummage on delivery day. Just more boring clothes.

seasonschooner · 12/07/2017 22:31

Grin @ Keira

Catchytune · 12/07/2017 22:42

Don't get it. You can buy cheap stuff ANYWHERE these days. Everywhere has good sales and outlet shops have bargains all year round.
To be honest you can get anything secondhand. All the labels can be bought dirt cheap on eBay.

tearsinmyeyes · 12/07/2017 22:43

A tip- the summer sale is never tat
It's always basically everything from their range
You don't need to go at 3am - 9 will do
It's the xmas sale that's tat and needs a 5 am start

LemonRedwood · 13/07/2017 20:32

DrHorrible I wouldn't call Next cheap! It's hardly primark.
