Next are a bit precious about their sale, aren't they?

I've received an invitation for the Next sale for the first time.

I've been meaning to buy a few holiday clothes so I clicked the link and was faced with The Rules.

Including that I must not let anyone else use my slot, and if I don't add an item to my basket within 20 minutes I'll be booted out. Oh, and if I don't buy anything I'll be put on the naughty list and wont be invited again. GrinHmm

I've received an email copy of The Rules to internalise before the big event.

And I have to schlepp to the store to collect!

Disagree. Next sell brands too and have some great discounts on Nike trainers etc. I always seem to get a slot and no idea why as I'm not a great spender or have much debt.

coddiwomple · 12/07/2017 19:24

if I don't buy anything I'll be put on the naughty list and wont be invited again.

don't worry, it's completely untrue. I don't think I ever buy in the sale and I receive an invit' every single time. I would love to buy, but can't find anything, pretty sure most of the items haven't been for sale for the last 5 years.

bimbobaggins · 12/07/2017 19:26

I like next stuff but have never bothered with the sale either. I always feel it's just stock they've found in a cupboard from years ago.

Puddington · 12/07/2017 19:26

mostly stock bought in especially for the "sale" of stuff from winter 2005 which they're still trying to shift

I worked in Next for almost 3 years (great coworkers, excessively stressful working conditions) and I have to say this part isn't true, in my store at least or at any stores in my area. For all the failings of the sale, the amount of sale prep that went into each one was massive and lengthy (and brought many staff to tears with the stress), and we could only include items from that year or the very tail end of the previous one if anything was left; frequently there wasn't at that stage.

I do also hate the website and having escaped working there I would never queue up at 3am to actually buy stuff in the sale tho! It's the kids' stuff that seems to be the biggest draw for most people.

BlahBlahBlahEtc · 12/07/2017 19:27

And, their store delivery isn't available so everything I've just shopped for is pointless because for some reason a while ago they reinstated my mothers address (an hour away and we're not talking at the moment) instead of my actual address, and no matter what I freaking do they don't change it back!, and they don't deliver to other addresses in the sale unless you pay full whack.

I just wanted to get my dd a new dress and shoes :( ... and a few tshirts and joggers and some trainers

PISSED. OFF.

end of rant. Peace out love trouts! Grin

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 12/07/2017 19:29

A naughty list, who the fuck do they think they are?
They ship in special crap just for the sales,
some of it is about 8 years old and selling for only £3 off the original price.

Jumpers with shirts sewn inside for £12 with a list of rules. Fuck that.

Shantotto · 12/07/2017 19:34

I have to buy from tall ranges so unfortunately I'm stuck with Next being one of the few places I can shop at.

I was very surprised that I found some stuff that I'd seen full price a few weeks but didn't get round to ordering. And in my size!

My one concern is I might have moved house before some of it gets delivered!

icebearforpresident · 12/07/2017 19:35

Is it already open, earliest slip i could get was 10pm,im eyeing up a bed!

icebearforpresident · 12/07/2017 19:36

Sorry,earliest SLOT was 10pm

AtomHeart · 12/07/2017 19:37

I've just ordered a shit load of stuff. I quite like the Next sale sometimes. I always end up returning almost all of it, but sometimes I get a few good buys amongst the junk.

paxillin · 12/07/2017 19:39

That's not a sale, that's bloody rationing Shock!

kali110 · 12/07/2017 19:42

So you have to buy something?
What if there's only crap left?

Carriecakes80 · 12/07/2017 19:47

The sizing is very strange from Next, and tbh I don't find the clothing as nice as once was...I much prefer New Look these days! I find their clothes might not sound as posh lol, but they wash better and last longer! ;-)

LemonRedwood · 12/07/2017 19:50

I used to work at Next (many moons ago). The sales were crazy. 4:30am starts (to open at 5am) with people queuing from 3am. Staff had first dibs anyway and anything we wanted to buy was kept out the back for us to purchase later (most of the good stuff basically). Couldn't move in the shop for overcrowding. Customers would elbow me out of the way when all I was trying to do was put something back on a rack. I survived 3 Next sales.

PutThatPomBearBack · 12/07/2017 19:55

Do people still fall for the next sale?

PickettBowtruckles · 12/07/2017 20:00

I googled next sale to see what it's all about and it came up...have a I bypassed the rules Shock

paxillin · 12/07/2017 20:00

But why the sales frenzy, do they sell stuff for £1? Next quality is not great and the stuff looks ill-fitting even if it isn't. Plus whilst not expensive it isn't ultra-cheap, which at the quality it should be.

MissEliza · 12/07/2017 20:04

What really pisses me off is when you add stuff to your basket and when you go to checkout (within a couple of minutes) the item has sold out. Can't they bloody hold on to it for even ten minutes? I put a bed in my basket, went back to check I was happy with the colour and when I went to checkout it had sold out. In less than a minute! I'm so pissed off with next right now.

CJCreggsGoldfish · 12/07/2017 20:05

I like their children's clothes and some homewares...I've also been blacklisted. I actually called them yesterday to complain I didn't have a slot (I know, I know, but I didn't have a lot to do!) and they said that I didn't meet the criteria because I hadn't bought on line with them, I pointed out I'd bought 2 sofas with them recently but as that was in store it didn't count! WTF??

Anyway, I went to Marks and bought kids clothes there instead.

londonrach · 12/07/2017 20:07

Go to asda and sainsbury better than next.

MrsGotobed · 12/07/2017 20:09

Rules? Blacklisted? ...seriously?!

I've loathed Next for years. Before that I was just not impressed. Overpriced, poor quality and weird sizing.

Never understood all those people that would spend Xmas Day night queuing in the freezing cold for the Next Boxing Day sale. Confused

VacantExpression · 12/07/2017 20:10

Everything I ordered was in stock (first time ever), and like a pp said I've got some big stuff like coats that I will get back on ebay what I've paid or thereabouts.

Agree it isn't what it used to be though which is a real shame.

PoorYorick · 12/07/2017 20:11

Next is ugly these days and the online shopping experience is an absolute joke.

Darkbendis · 12/07/2017 20:15

My slot was from 8 pm. I had a look for stuff for the kids and for myself. Nothing I would like to buy, I am afraid.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 12/07/2017 20:15

I've just bought some stuff. 2 things didn't even make it to the basket before they went out of stock. Got DS some Converse for £16, swimming shorts and a rash vest for our holiday. They do pyjamas in long length so I like them for that. Find their sizes big though. I'm a 10 and definitely not smaller but a Next 10 tends to be a bit big on me. I loved their kids clothes when mine were little, now they are older I'm distinctly unimpressed, especially the girls stuff but then I'm finding that most places. Sainsbury's is my go to place usually and their girls clothes are horrendous.

If you buy something and just don't bother to collect it, it goes back and it still counts so you get a slot next time.
