AIBU about sausages and mash?

I'm probably going to get slammed for this but...
As a VERY rare treat I've picked DD up from nursery and popped into Sainsbury's to have a quick lunch. She wanted sausages, so I ordered her sausages and mash, and she was confused by the fact there was a single sausage on her plate. She ate it and asked for another, I explained that there was only one and she responded by saying but there's always two! Agreeing with her that I'd have expected two I went ask to enquire, and ended up paying 80p for a second sausage, I'm trying to decide if I should complain!! AIBU and lost the plot here.

In my defence a few years ago I was amazed a kids portion of fish fingers came with four fish fingers!!

I'm not sure actually but as an adult I'd expect 2 sausages.

So therefore I suppose a child would have less. Saying that I wouldn't have been surprised to see 2 on a child portion. Sorry I'm no help

lozzylizzy · 12/07/2017 13:30

Is the meal called 'sausage and mash' or 'sausages and mash' if its the latter complain as its false advertising! hahaa

EJREsMum · 12/07/2017 13:32

Dinner 2. Lunch 1

User73milliontrilliondillion · 12/07/2017 13:34

It does say "sausages" but I agree I wouldn't think twice about two on an adult serving, there that inbetween size, smaller I'd definitely say something but they're hardly big either, I'd give her two at home and my husband would want three!!

Depends on how big the sausage is really. If it's a fat one, one is enough, if it's like a chipolata I'd expect 2/3 sausages.

Ecureuil · 12/07/2017 13:35

I would have 2 and my DD's (3 and 2) would have 1. Generally in a cafe or similar I'd expect to be served 2.

Soubriquet · 12/07/2017 13:35

I would expect two on a child's portion yes

2014newme · 12/07/2017 13:36

Yabu to think sainsbury cafe is a 'treat'
More like a punishment!

SpringySprung · 12/07/2017 13:36

2 sausages for an adult in a sausage and mash?! Wtf? 2 for a child 3 for an adult as a treat big meal definitely. 1 sausage is not enough really unless for a very small child.

User73milliontrilliondillion · 12/07/2017 13:36

EJRE but if I came back at 5, I would you expect two for the same price?
Valid point though but this will be her main meal of the day, and probably won't eat much later.

I think two sausages would be the absolute minimum requirement if it said "sausages and mash." But did it in fact say "sausage and mash"?

PuppyMonkey · 12/07/2017 13:39

Sorry I missed the other posts, my screen is playing up. Blush

User73milliontrilliondillion · 12/07/2017 13:40

On the board it says sausages and mash, however on the receipt it says sausage and mash Hmm

booellesmum · 12/07/2017 13:42

I don't think mine ever only had 1 sausage.
I would expect 2.

DoggoslothladyA · 12/07/2017 13:43

I'd want 3

thisismadness77 · 12/07/2017 13:45

I'd argue "sausages" is plural.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 12/07/2017 13:49

On a children's meal? I think I'd probably expect two but one wouldn't be that surprising to me either. It does depend a bit on how big the sausage is too.

I hate what I'm about to say, as I think it might make me 'that poster', but I sometimes think that the portion sizes in many children's meals are a bit too big. I don't mean the normal children's portions designed for maybe a 7yo, but the toddler portions you get in pizza express, prezzo etc. They're quite big, so my DD never gets anywhere near finishing them so I end up eating it, which explains why I'm such a chub and she isn't Grin.

PuppyMonkey · 12/07/2017 13:51

I think making you pay 80p for a second sausage makes them sound pretty mean spirited. Are you on Twitter? I'd Tweet them in a lighthearted way and I bet they'll respond.

PinkHeart5911 · 12/07/2017 13:57

I don't t know really

My babaies are 11 months & 22 months so 1 sausuge each for them with mash is a big enough portion. But for me I'd want 2.

On a child's menu I wouldn't be shocked to only get 1
On a adults meal I'd expect 2 as a minimum, when I've had sausauge & mash out it's never been more than 2

PigletJohn · 12/07/2017 13:58

was it a child's portion? What did it cost?

BitOutOfPractice · 12/07/2017 13:58

It's a well known MN load of bollocks fact that an adult can survive on half a sausage for a week

Decaffstilltastesweird · 12/07/2017 14:00

Grin bitoutofpractice.

Definitely two minimum for an adult.

Rumtopf · 12/07/2017 14:00

I've no idea but now you've really made me fancy sausages, mash, peas and onion gravy! That'll be my cheat meal at the weekend.

IWantACheeseburger · 12/07/2017 14:04

I bet it would have been two fish fingers in a children's meal so I would have expected two sausages too.

User73milliontrilliondillion · 12/07/2017 14:06

Tweet sent asking if the calories are worked out on one or two!!
It's advertised as suitable for 3-12 year olds.
I agree some child portions are way too big, and being Sainsbury's it only cost £3.00 with a drink and a piece of fruit.
