AIBU to use Tesco vouchers on meal out

Got a meal booked with friends to Prezzo

I have Tesco club card vouchers to use. Is it okay to use these to pay for my meal? Would you be bothered if one of your friends did that?

Course not

greendale17 · 12/07/2017 10:33

Forgot to add- I didn't arrange the meal. It's for my friends birthday

I do this all the time :) as long as you take cash to cover a tip and drinks x

someonestolemynick · 12/07/2017 10:43

Why don't you use them to make everyone's share smaller. I'd be a bit Hmm if you pulled out vouchers just for yourself.
[Fondly remembers DP pulling that stunt on an early date. He has other qualities.]

Really? I wouldn't bat an eyelid. Not everyone could afford to use their Clubcard vouchers to subsidise someone else's meal.

I'm crap at using my vouchers, and respect anyone who is canny enough to make the most of them.

Kr1stina · 12/07/2017 10:49

I'd be impressed at your organisational skills and jealous I'd not thought of it myself Smile

mumeeee · 12/07/2017 10:49

It wouldn't bother me at all if you used your vouchers.

thewideeyedpea · 12/07/2017 10:51

Exactly what Brokenbiscuit said.

chipscheeseandgravy · 12/07/2017 10:53

I frequently whip out my phone and pull up a discount voucher at meals. Can't imagine anyone being agog at you doing that.
Just check that you can use the vouchers on that specific day/time/meal.

BeepBeepMOVE · 12/07/2017 10:54

Yes you can use them.

However, depending on the size of the group I'd share the discount. If it's small close group then I'd share, if it's a big party with randoms then not. Me and close friends always thing vouchers and discounts, so thats more normal to me.

ItsNachoCheese · 12/07/2017 10:55

Id use them if i were you. I wouldnt expect you to use your vouchers that you have spent money accumulating to pay for others though? Thats not how it works

MiddleClassProblem · 12/07/2017 10:59

It's not really any different to you paying with cash. As pp said make sure you have money for drinks and tip.

If you feel self conscious then just mention it earlier on.

thisismadness77 · 12/07/2017 11:03

If it was a buy one get one free voucher i would share the discount, rather than say mines the free one!

This is different, it's a cash equivalent so I'd just pay my share with the vouchers and feel v chuffed :)

YellowLily · 12/07/2017 11:27

Erm why should OP use them towards the meal and then pay cash on top? Clubcard vouchers are like cash, if she does that she'd actually be paying more than everyone else. Use the vouchers OP, I'd not be bothered if my friend did this, nor would I expect my own meal to be discounted! Smile

Cadenza1818 · 12/07/2017 11:34

Yup I do it all the time. I just remind friends they can do it too beforehand. Sometimes if I've had loads of vouchers I've covered cost if meal but only with family. Enjoy! I looove tesco vouchers!

greendale17 · 12/07/2017 14:19

Thanks for your replies- I will use them and mention it at the start of the night.
