Funnily enough, I've just started the Couch to 5k thing and found this today which I've made into a Spotify playlist - the right mix for me of old and newer tracks. Not tried it yet but seems good to me.

I hope the link works!

scottishtreehugger · 11/07/2017 22:05

Yes it did work, thanks!

It is a running (no pun intended!) joke that I run to "stripper music" so a lot of glam metal/rock and country rock. Guns and Roses, Motley Crue, Warrant, Skin, Blackberry Smoke, Cadillac Three, Buckcherry all feature.

Bigoldsupermoon · 11/07/2017 22:09

Sandstorm by Darude. I always feel a bit of a hero running to that, even if I'm only plodding along at 7kph 😂💪🏻

Monkeyinshoes · 11/07/2017 22:17

My favourites are

Florence and the Machine - The Dog Days are Over
Coldplay - A Sky Full of Stars
Katy Perry - Firework
David Guetta - Titanium
Pharrell - Happy
Taylor Swift - Shake it Off
Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
U2 - Beautiful Day
Eminem - Lose Yourself

AuntieStella · 11/07/2017 22:18

Status Quo. Yes I know that sounds seriously cheesy, but 12 bar boogie is really good running music.

Others (you can tell I have random taste)

Swords of a Thousand Men (Tenpole Tudor)
Ant Music, and Stand and Deliver
Mighty Real (Jimmy Somerville)
Hot n Cold (Katy Perry)
I love it (Icona Pop)
You think you're a man (Divine)
Dancing with myself, and Mony Mony (Billy Idol)
Whatever it Takes (Imagine Dragons)
Temptation (Heaven 17)
Ballroom Blitz (The Sweet)

Killing it - krewela
Hinding with boys - creeper
Ready - kodaline
Teddy picker - arctic monkeys
You love us - manic street preachers

RandomDent · 11/07/2017 22:21

Northern Soul has a great running tempo. I found this out by browsing the running playlists on Spotify. Tainted Love is a good one.

RiversDisguise · 11/07/2017 22:23

On youYouTube you can find heaps by searching for

Running songs 160 bpm
Running compilation 170 bpn etc etc

But often a song you love will just push you through. So put on some favourite by queen or supergroove or whatever. When they appear you'll get a second wind.Smile

Seren85 · 11/07/2017 22:32

I agree with you RiversDisguise! One of my running tracks has a slightly slower tempo than the others, I can track my HR reducing on fitbit despite running at the same speed during it simply because it is a song I love that feels like a second wind.

BlackStars · 11/07/2017 22:34

Remember the Name - Fort Minor

I find that you need something that the beat kind of matches your steps. I run to some stuff that I would NEVER actually sit and listen to.

SlipperyLizard · 11/07/2017 22:39

If you like green day then they're great for running to.

Catra · 11/07/2017 22:47

Lack of Love, Charles B
Passion, Gat Decor
Mother Earth, Armand Van Helden

I suppose the BPM of all of these is quite slow in comparison to your average running tracks, but I'm more of a plodder than a sprinter!

Shantasia · 11/07/2017 22:51

I like the running mixes on RockmyRun - I tried making my own playlists but need to keep a steady tempo or else it all goes to bollocks. Anything cheesy and 80s works for me. I like to pretend I'm in a montage where the heroine becomes a top long distance runner by spending weeks plodding around a track in F&F leggings. delusional

ChocolateFrogs · 11/07/2017 22:53

Insomnia - Faithless
Ecuador - Sash! (Bloody brilliant!)
Alors on danse - Stromae

Papaoutai - Stromae
Come Around - MIA
Hi Friend - Deadmaus
Uptown Funk - Bruno Mars

Nobody to Love - Sigma
Faster kill pussycat - Paul Oakenfold
Maneater - Nelly Furtado
Gasolina - Daddy Yankee

Walk the Line remix - Laurent Wolf
Animals - Martin Garrix (again brilliant!!)
Despacito - Justin Bieber Blush
Bang Bang - Soho Dolls
Anything by the Killers
The Way I Are - Timbaland

ComtesseDeSpair · 11/07/2017 22:55

My top five are:

Lose Yourself - Eminem
Big Exit - PJ Harvey
Don't You Worry Child - Swedish House Mafia
Gold Lion - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Remember the Name - Fort Minor

It's partly the beat which works for my stride, but I also like a bridge or chorus to work up to, so to speak, or speed up during.

Supersoaryflappypigeon · 11/07/2017 22:56

For me- Dizzee Rascal:Bonkers.

It got me through the last half mile of a 10k I ran recently with an injury I know I should have sat it out.

Titsywoo · 11/07/2017 22:59

Insomnia - Faithless has the perfect beat for running

scottishtreehugger · 11/07/2017 23:32

love these suggestions, thanks heaps!

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 11/07/2017 23:45

Pulp - Disco 2000 is surprisingly good
plus most of McFly's faster songs

DoJo · 11/07/2017 23:50

This - the only song written for runners:

ShoutyMcShoutFace · 12/07/2017 00:02

Mika - Grace Kelly
K'naan - Wave your Flag
Scooter - Logical Song

Meatloaf -bat out of hell !!!

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/07/2017 03:22

Mine goes through stages. depending on what I need.

Rage Against the Machine - Know Your Enemy or
Limp Bizkit - Break Stuff
To get you up hills or through the last few steps.

Kelly Clarkson - Since You've Been Gone
Blackstreet - No Diggity
General running

Green Day - American Idiot
Dizzee Rascal - Bonkers
To keep my pace up when I'm flagging

Basement Jaxx - Red Alert
Chemical Brothers - Go
When I feel blah or to cheer me up

I always need new music though. It really affects my running.

minesapintofwine · 12/07/2017 07:24

I listen to a really eclectic mix when running but a couple that spring to mind are

Sigma-Redemption
Calvin Harris-This is what you came for
Bastille-warmth
Chemical Brothers-go
Chromeo-jealous

My sil swears by Queens of the stone age-no one knows
