To think this song can't be serious. Please tell me it was created as a joke?

Just came across this song and video on my youtube. Apparently it reached number 1!

I'm traumatised from just watching it!

It was meant as a joke surely?

More misheard lyrics - I thought it was "my lover's got no money he's got his trampolines"

YokoReturns · 10/07/2017 21:57

em think Blur did Beetlebum not Blue Grin

Gingernaut · 10/07/2017 21:58

I remember coming back to England after an American summer camp nightmare to find this pumping out of every pub doorway.

Tartle · 10/07/2017 21:59

I have had some time to come to terms with how terribly terribly old I am thanks to my 14 y/o cousin. We were watching one of those countdown greatest hit shows last year and he turned to me with the most incredulous look on his face and said "was Victoria Beckham in a band?"

I wanted to die a little.

I was lucky enough to attend Party in the Park in what I think was probably 2000 where I basically managed to see the greatest hits of the 90s in one fell swoop. Kylie, All Saints and Backstreet boys are the stand out ones. I think 5ive might have been there too.

tickety at 35 seconds, Vic Reeves does a little dance to that song:

Yeah I think those lyrics are borderline dodgy I'll show you mine you show me yours.. Wink I remember trying to show off my River dance skills to this song on holiday and instead knocking over a table of about 6 drinks Blush

Talking of saucy lyrics, what about Sweat? Or the Outhere brothers Boom boom boom?!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/07/2017 22:00

Oh this thread. Grin

I'm not sure I owned a pair of trousers that didn't have a skirt sewn over the top.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 10/07/2017 22:00

Awwwwwww, that song takes me back to my school years. I left in 1999.

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 10/07/2017 22:00

I have just found photos of me and my gang of friends in the summer of 1999, all aged 16. Most of us have butterfly clips in our hair and the others have wee head scarfs that I remember them buying from Miss Selfridge (and one of their older sisters saying it looked like an old fashioned nurses cap and then them having a massive row).
A mixture of low rise jeans and very low rise combat trousers. A mixture of hanky tops and strappy vest tops. Faces full of glitter, bindis and lots of clumpy bits in our fringes which I can only assume were attacked by hair mascara. Pile of denim jackets on the floor. Grin
Lookers, the lot of us.

YokoReturns · 10/07/2017 22:01

The Outhere Brothers' album was pure misogynistic filth (DH reliably informs me, he worked at Our Price in 1995!)

Elle I loved that Shampoo song far too much Blush I was an indie kid but it was my guilty secret.

This was, for some inconceivable reason, a huge hit in the 90s...

Mrsknackered · 10/07/2017 22:01

OP! How young are you?! I'm pretty young but this was my favourite! There is no way you have gone throughout life not hearing this Blush

bubblesagain · 10/07/2017 22:02

I thought this was going to be that R Kelly - trapped in the closet song
I have that on dvd Grin

They were before my time I'm afraid.
oh god, I feel old. I think my joints actually ached reading that!

I'm going to be listening to 90s songs all night now, if only I had some parachute pants with tassels or metalic trousers with a skirt on top to wear while I dance! Grin

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 10/07/2017 22:03

90's fucking rocked!!

Soubriquet · 10/07/2017 22:03

Wheetus(sp) I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby

WeShouldOpenABar · 10/07/2017 22:04

AceholeRimmer · 10/07/2017 22:05

This is the first time I've felt old (32) Grin

ememem84 · 10/07/2017 22:05

Damm autocorrect.

Coffeeandcrochet · 10/07/2017 22:06

Was anyone else desperate for a pair of Adidas popper trousers c. 1998?

CornflakeHomunculus · 10/07/2017 22:06

I can't believe hasn't had a mention yet on a thread about 90s musical weirdness!!!

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 10/07/2017 22:06

I went to a Smash Hits Poll Winners Party at an arena in London Docklands once (either 1998 or 1999). I wore a metallic, backless halter top (from Bay Trading Co), black low rise jeans, Gwen Steffani style hair buns and platform trainers. I won the tickets from Dr Fox on Capital Radio whilst staying at my Aunt's house in London. I thought I was cool as fuck.

Coffeeandcrochet · 10/07/2017 22:07

Ahhh, blue hair mascara, body glitter, a tie-dye top from Camden market and cargo pants. What a look Grin
