MargaretTwatyer, I have probably over the last week followed these threads, probably more than I should have done and each time, your name has popped up, left a very derogatory comment and then and not come back to answer the points that have followed,so please forgive me for thinking you would do exactly the same again, which you have not done this time,I am not sure you do have regard for Charlie, because the people that do know exactly what needs to happen and that is for charlie to pass away peacefully.

You pop up, you stir the shit and then dissapear again, which is extremley true, people are allowed their own point of veiw, the sad truth is charlie is going to die, whever you like it ,like it or incidently every tom dick and harry like it.

Fortunately at least on mumsnet there is a balanced veiw and whever you like it or not, people cannot help the way they feel about a lot of aspects of the case........

TealStar · 10/07/2017 23:03

Can't believe what is unfolding here. Someone, surely, needs to step in and say enough is enough?!
I'm worried about two possible outcomes of this which have nothing to do with Charlie or his deluded parents:

  1. That even fewer people will be inclined to join the medical profession as the knuckle headed trolls public are increasingly vocal in their contempt of it, and feel that it's just not worth the vilification. I can see some amazing medical staff leaving GOSH and indeed the profession as a result of the selfish idiotic people involved in this case.
  2. That medical staff and indeed the whole legal profession will be undermined by this as a blueprint for future cases. I am concerned that a lot of people will be kept alive against their will because families will insist on overruling all rational decisions.

I just can't believe it's been allowed to go so far.

Flowers to Lonelymum and all other parents going through the anguish of caring for a seriously sick child. And Flowers to ALL the children in GOSH tonight.

MirandaWest · 10/07/2017 23:04

Because it's easier to accuse the doctors than to do research.

alcibiades · 10/07/2017 23:05

The CA reminds me of people going on crusade back in the century. It's about being part of a cause and a community with no need to understand any facts.

muckypup73 · 10/07/2017 23:05

LovelyBath77,theonly thing I can thinkof is they are totally gullable, beliveing absolutely everything they are being fed, a bit like sheep, which is sad, because if they actually questioned things and looked at things they would have a different point of veiw.

MrsFionaCharming · 10/07/2017 23:07

I follow a Facebook page for a little girl I know with cancer.

For a long time it looked as though she would've get through it, but over the past few months she's been increasingly unwell, and her parents made the decision to move her to hospice care and make her comfortable. Some of the responses on the Fb page were unbelievable, with people disagreeing and telling the parents they could see in the photos she still had fight left in her etc. I can imagine how difficult it would be for Charlie's parents to make a decision like that when so many people have (uneducated) opinions on it. Luckily in the case of the girl I know, her parents are from a medical background and have full trust in their medical team, so it's been a joint decision, and the hospice care she's now receiving is amazing.

muckypup73 · 10/07/2017 23:07

MirandaWest,I totally agree.

Lightlovelife · 10/07/2017 23:08

Zhx3 I have just had an email from CitizenGo thanking me for signing the petition too. I definitely did not sign, although I read what it said. I couldn't find a way to contact them so have unsubscribed. If two people on this thread have been signed up without wanting to I wonder how many of their 400,000 supporters are genuine. I sincerely hope no-one takes any notice of it.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 10/07/2017 23:08

Yeah I don't think they want to believe anything except GOSH are bad,the judge are part of the cover up and going to America will solve everything. Mean this morphine info has stirred more things up..their doing it to keep him sedated..it's all new evidence blahhh. The reality of it doesn't fit in with their narrative

Mean Trump being compared to Santa was something else..

TheWeeWitch · 10/07/2017 23:11

A quote here from this Guardian article: www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/jul/10/charlie-gard-case-to-resume-on-thursday-after-tense-high-court-hearing?CMP=fb_gu

A statement on behalf of the hospital read in court said the legal proceedings had not only placed “extreme strain and stress on those that are treating him” but has been “desperately unfair to Charlie”. It said staff had been forced to take steps contrary to Charlie’s welfare.

Glad that GOSH are able to begin to publicly make this kind of statement.

MrGrumpy01 · 10/07/2017 23:11

I have just wondered too if the fact that the sister too could be a carrier goes someway to explain her role in this.

LovelyBath77 · 10/07/2017 23:17

I have found that with FB too, if you chose to deal with and accept the severe condition you can be told you have 'given up' or 'stopped fighting'. there is so much anger out there, anger at the condition can get turned on those suffering and spill out I think. That is what I found anyway.

I think in this case it seems to be a kind of mutual denial, of surrounding yourself with others who then feed it back to you, perpetuating the denial. Just looking briefly at the medical facts of the condition tells you everything. The fact that there are other forms of mito disease as well, has maybe confused things for example, with the parents been told of other children who had responded, but they had different forms.

Never been so ashamed to be American. We have the highest infant/mother mortality rate of the first world and thousands of babies dying from treatable illness (that's the tip of the ice burg )but the giant cheeto feels the need to arrogantly offer help to a terminal baby in another country for free?? I wanted to punch something. And those American doctors perfectly willing to experiment on a helpless voiceless baby ..as long as the money's there! C&C have no idea how lucky, and frankly spoiled, they are living in a country w great healthcare and talented doctors that actually care! Children have close to no humans rights in the states compared to the U.K. That much is clear. I'm ashamed of my country. And I hate to break it to Connie but I highly doubt GOSH is threatened by the doctors in the states somehow being "better" or our healthcare "more advanced" Oh lord where is the laughing emoji.

The parents are also being treated w kid gloves by the judge Francis. Those little outbursts? Basically accusing the judge of colluding w all of the worlds doctors to lie to them and "kill" their son , and asking for new judge? The hospital and courts have acted extremely sympathetic and gentle towards these parents, it shocks me honestly.
As for the parents, their minds have completely shattered. Completely.he enjoys his tickles ? He's not in pain...but he's also aware and not brain damaged? He's going to ride a bike and be a totally normal boy? And all these psychos like the American pastor egging them on like they are revolutionary heroes fighting "the man"
Oh charlie my heart is aching for you, the hell you must be enduring if you have any awareness at all.

I'm ashamed to say I was once in favor of charlie coming to the us when the story first gained attention in January. This was before reading the court judgement. The situation has been TOTALLY misrepresented by the family in this campagne of cognitive dissonance. The lies spread and information omitted is shocking.

MirandaWest · 10/07/2017 23:22

I think it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible for Charlie's parents to say that they have accepted that Charlie will die and that they are stopping seeking more treatment for him. I think that Charlie's Army, whilst I believe started with good intentions has spiralled into something very different.

thatdearoctopus · 10/07/2017 23:27

Suppose, just suppose for one minute that the High Court rules that Charlie can be taken to the US.

What happens then, logistically? Who facilitates the proceedings? Hires the plane? Adapts it into a hospital ward? Gets hold of the oxygen cylinders and so forth? Liaises with whichever US hospital agreed to take him? Transfers the money to pay for the wrap-around care? Finds somewhere for Chris and Connie to live? Pays for that?

Sostenueto · 10/07/2017 23:27

Driven toGinWine rather thanBrewCake over this situation. I wonder what this world is coming to. With advances in medicine everyone is looking for miracle cures to everything. The sheer selfishness of having this media circus at gosh when other children are dying is absolutely horrendous. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers for all those children and families in gosh caught up in this tragic case. Poor Charley too.

Notknownatthisaddress · 10/07/2017 23:27

@Dustbunny1900

Amazing heart felt post. Thank you.

Are you IN America? Or an American in the UK? Smile

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 10/07/2017 23:28

Connie and Chris are in a hideous position, I pass no comment on their actions but only wish them as much peace as possible. This has been very prolonged - for various reasons. This will have caused deep emotional damage and scarring to them.

I only pass judgement on the illiterate keyboard warriors "Charlie's Army" who I am surprised can even manage to switch their own phones and laptops on by themselves. They are scum of the earth and don't care about Charlie or his parents. Blue hearts and brash statements mean nothing.

flimflaminurjams · 10/07/2017 23:30

Well put Dustbunny

Mermaid36 · 10/07/2017 23:32

I'm currently sat on a children's ward with one of my 15 month old twins. We've been here a week, and we've got at least another week to go.

My girls were ventilated at birth due to extreme prematurity. They were on a cocktail of drugs - including morphine, to help them survive. They had over 10 syringe drivers each, lines through their umbilical cord plus long lines in their hands and feet.
The ventilation caused as much damage as it prevented. Twin 2 had a pneumothorax and needed a different sort of mechanical ventilation for a while.

Our amazing neonatal ICU team told us everything they were doing. We had access to the ward 24/7, access to the medical notes etc.

I'm pretty sure most paediatric ICU wards are the same. I can't see how the parents didn't know Charlie was on morphine etc.

I can't imagine what Charlies parents are going through. We were lucky that both our girls came through mostly unscathed.
What I can't understand is the level of vitriol against medical staff/the NHS. Charlie's parents have been in hospital with him for months...and the ridiculous "supporters" from CA have surely used NHS services before - I am gobsmacked to think they really believe that the staff/hospital/NHS are 'murdering' Charlie.

annandale · 10/07/2017 23:32

I hope that after events like this the whole medical and treating team sit down with the notes and page back through them trying to work out how they could have avoided the relationship breaking down so catastrophically. Maybe there was nothing else they could have done, maybe not. When there is so little understanding of the law and the reality of medical responsibilities in wider society, what hope do the team have.

Lonelymummyof1 · 10/07/2017 23:32

By the way mitochondria is passed on my mothers only.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 10/07/2017 23:32

I too have had an email from Citizen Go, saying thank you for signing the petition. I'm so glad I've just read the last few pages of this thread and found out other people have been told the same, as I thought I was going mad and signed it. There's not a chance in hell I'd sign that petition!

They're claiming over 300,000 people have signed it, but I wonder how many actually have?!

And DustBunny I thought the same as you re the disgrace of Trump offering free care when there are millions in his own country who can't afford medical care.

I bloody well wouldn't pay for it! And what happens if they go to America and the money runs out? I'd say stay there now and sort it yourself!
