Morphine WILL NOT "hasten the end". It can do so in people who are breathing for themselves but not if ventilated.

Stopnamechanging · 10/07/2017 15:59

The judge has been so compassionate but very firm, I think he has handled this as well as it could be.

I hope he has police protection, the threats against him are disgusting.

JaneEyre70 · 10/07/2017 16:00

I love this Judge, he does seem as if he isn't taking any crap.........

HouseOfMouse · 10/07/2017 16:00

"Francis J: parents must file written evidence by Wednesday so I can tell whether it’s new. I don’t expect to hear oral evidence then."

Ellie56 · 10/07/2017 16:00

The Judge has also refused to stand down: 'it would be a dereliction of my duty not to continue with this case.'

MillieMoodle · 10/07/2017 16:00

Am following the Twitter feed and it sounds like the GOSH QC is playing hard ball, as a pp said. There will undoubtedly be a lot of the GOSH case that Charlie's parents don't want to hear and they will struggle to keep quiet when they feel that Charlie's life is slipping away from them. Court proceedings are difficult to sit through at the best of times; I can't imagine how awful it must be to sit there and hear submissions against treating your child while their life is in the balance, particularly if you don't accept the child's condition is as grave as it appears to be.

I honestly think they are motivated by desperation, grief and pain. I can't imagine how hard that must be. I think they have surrounded themselves with people who are "fighting" for their cause on the face of it, but who are actually more likely have taken Charlie as a focus to further their own ends.

I just hope that whatever final decision is reached, Charlie's parents are able to cope with it and that it is best for little Charlie. I wish I could make him better and whilst I have hoped for months that something could be done to help him, I don't think this court hearing will go the way Charlie's parents want it to.

stitchglitched · 10/07/2017 16:00

Someone on CA wondering why the judge is tweeting updates instead of concentrating on Charlie. FFS.

QuizteamBleakley · 10/07/2017 16:00

CA are a rabid, baying mob, it's vile to read.

Ellie56 · 10/07/2017 16:02

Judge:I’ve been authorised to give this case absolute priority. I’d be delighted if I was able to change my mind. But I must apply law.

The Children Act 1989 says the child’s welfare shall be the court’s paramount consideration.

Sluttybartfast · 10/07/2017 16:03

Thanks Bore. (Which you definitely aren't.) Just couldn't help hoping. I've seen enough of death to know it can truly be a merciful release, and what is technically life can be sustained at such a horrible level as to be surreal.

Respect to Mr Justice Francis: he doesn't appear intimidated. The parents' QC OTOH appears to have made a couple of rookie mistakes today.

totallyliterally · 10/07/2017 16:03

I'm avoiding the CA page - but what did they expect when no evidence was given today. First denial over the 10% ... then I assume the back tracking as actually it was pointed out it had been said.

I'm glad this will be sorted on Thursday, Charlie needs to find peace.

Yamayo · 10/07/2017 16:03

So basically it appears that the judge has realised that he's not been given any information and he's given the parents two days to provide it.
I assume he will use Thursday to review everything and conclude on a final decision.
The fact that Charlie is on morphine is definitely not a good sign- specially after his mother had sworn blind he couldn't feel any pain as se couldn't bear to watch her baby suffer.

I feel so sorry for this poor little baby.

And his parents need to realise he is dying. Quickly.

Stopnamechanging · 10/07/2017 16:03

stitchglitched Grin

DarthMaiden · 10/07/2017 16:03

I fully agree Quiz

Statements like GOSH are deliberately "doping" him with morphine to make him less responsive and prove their case Angry

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 10/07/2017 16:04

On the Facebook page CA are saying Trump will just send a medical team on his private jet to get Charlie...

Confused
Stopnamechanging · 10/07/2017 16:04

So, the hearing was brought about due to claims of new evidence- but they provided no new evidence?

sodablackcurrant · 10/07/2017 16:05

Well Thursday it is so....

And then another delay and then the child passes away naturally due to organ failure/untreatable infection, as someone pointed out to me today, and thanks for that.

I hope it is a natural death. IYSWIM. With morphine back up. That poor child. He doesn't know what is going on at all. He just needs hugs, love and a peaceful passing, as we would all wish for ourselves I am sure.

When this is all over in a sensible and critical analysis type of way (sorry, but emotion cannot override clinical decisions really), I do hope it will fade into the background. With due respect to the Gard family.

There are thousands of parents faced with the switch off of life support every single day. I feel for them. I really do, their trauma has been trivialised by this circus.

JaneEyre70 · 10/07/2017 16:05

If they really kill Charlie I really hope someone puts a bul... in the middle of their heads...

a lovely comment on the CA fb page. Who the hell are these people??

totallyliterally · 10/07/2017 16:07

I'm not sure how the parents will recover from this. The realisation of what they pushed and the time they missed fighting. Or the opposite and remaining utterly in denial.

I thought Judge sounded excellent, also thought the QC representing Charlie's interests was covert good.

I do wonder if the parents will have new representation by Thursday.

stitchglitched · 10/07/2017 16:07

The same people who were angry about the suggestion of 25th july as being too long a wait are now angry that the judge is refusing that timetable. I think they just see parents-good, GOSH/ judge-bad no matter what. Some awful threats of violence against Gollop.

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/07/2017 16:08

The parents will have known Charlie is having morphine. Yet they have chosen not to mention it at all.

DarthMaiden · 10/07/2017 16:08

It feels like a fair few of his parents assertions have been robustly challenged.

I wonder what their legal team will advise about any further media interviews as it clearly impacted their case today.

  • the 10% and failure to prove this
  • making that claim repeatedly in the media and the refuting it in court
  • the assertion he's not in pain, but we find he is now on morphine though the parents have not disclosed this
  • the US doctor not having changed his view
  • trying to stretch the case out until July

What a very sad and sorry state of affairs Sad

ItsNachoCheese · 10/07/2017 16:08

Charlie Gard Case 3
BoreOfWhabylon · 10/07/2017 16:10

Could those who use FB possibly screenshot threats against named individuals and forward to police?

teainbed · 10/07/2017 16:10

What a terrible circus. Everything I feel has been said already other than where is the petition I can sign to stay stop this poor little boys torment?
