...to buy a swimsuit with legs?

BaldricksTrousers · 10/07/2017 13:51

Sorry for the strange wording. But I need a new one-piece swimsuit as I swim about three times a week for fitness. Most suits nowadays seem to be pretty high cut and I really dislike shaving my pubic area. Even trimming the hair doesn't seem to cut it. WIBU to buy a swimsuit that has built-in shorts like the one pictured? Or will I look strange? I should say that my body does not resemble the model's.

I only have swimsuits with legs, although most of them are shorter than that.

I also have this tankini:
www.amazon.co.uk/Speedo-Womens-Allover-Tankini-Swimsuit/dp/B01GCMVEQS/ref=sr_1_1?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1499704715&sr=1-1&keywords=speedo+splice+tankini&tag=mumsnetforum-21

It is comfortable and covers a multitude of sins.

badtime · 10/07/2017 17:41

Oh, and lots of people wear legsuits in the pool I go to.

Marmite27 · 10/07/2017 17:42

I've got a couple of the boy leg ones from sports direct

nameusername · 10/07/2017 17:42

Why not? I've also worn the one with skirt in the pool a few years back. I've been meaning to buy the full leg length by Speedo but it's so expensive.

Sorry put my name and address on that one - I meant to say, Amazon have a few less sporty styles like this one without linking to my Amazon account like an idiot if you like those too

BarberaofSeville I love that swimsuit.

Doobigetta · 10/07/2017 17:52

I have a couple of the boyleg tankinis linked above, and I love them for the pool. They keep everything covered between waxes, and because I seem to have quite a long body I find them more comfortable than one-pieces.

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 10/07/2017 17:59

Don't understand why some PPs think they're not suitable for the beach: that's exactly the right place as well, if self-consciousness around others (and especially UV protection) might be a concern.

Pretty common to see this type, at indoor pools and outdoors.

I think they are great! I've always worn boardshorts, long or shorts, with a bikini top when I couldn't be bothered to trim my bikini line. After kids, I need to go more for tankini type unfortunately.

Skirts look great too, but they are a pain on the beach because they take longer to dry.

Anything that makes you comfortable is great.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 10/07/2017 18:06

I have this one, and I bloody love it. Means I feel comfortable to swim spontaneously without worrying about my bikini line. I still wear a bikini on holiday when I've had the chance to plan in some topiary work.

That looks great, in fact I might get one for myself. I especially like the less-sporty versions linked on amazon.

I would wear this at the pool AND at the beach. I'm quite confused as to why some people think it's not suitable beachwear?

WhiskyChick · 10/07/2017 18:15

I wear one like this. I like feeling secure and like my arse won't make an escape Blush

mikeyssister · 10/07/2017 18:18

This thread has made my day, I love swimming but won't go because I'm so self conscious. I had Amazon vouchers but nothing I wanted.

One order later I'm a really happy little camper.

JaneEyre70 · 10/07/2017 18:20

I've lost weight (around 3 stone) and the tops of my legs look absolutely awful Sad....all saggy skin and thick dark hair. It's really hard to shave too due to the loose skin. So I'm buying one for my hols this year. My DDs said a resounding no to a swimdress as they are too "Old Lady" apparently but the legged suits seem acceptable!

Boulshired · 10/07/2017 18:24

I do not know if it is because I am short but they look hideous on me. Which was a shame as I really wanted one, ended up with shorts and rash vest. I prefer at the beach as I cannot be bothered with sun lotion.

SaucyJack · 10/07/2017 18:26

Do it! You're there to exercise- you don't need to dress like you're partying on a yacht in Monaco.

The older I get, the more I find wearing sensible clothing that doesn't need to look "pretty" quite liberating.

Piffpaffpoff · 10/07/2017 18:29

I am on my second one of these and I love it.

However, if you surf or do other outside water sports, I should advise that they are crap for wearing under a wetsuit as the legs roll up and are v uncomfy so I have a 'standard' swimsuit still for that.

BaldricksTrousers · 10/07/2017 18:42

Swimsuits with skirts are ok but a bit too girly for me. My grandma used to wear one so I associate it with grandma wear...not that it makes it bad but just not my style.

Oh holy I absolutely love that! Am buying one Grin

lljkk · 10/07/2017 19:56

I am a sprawler, I don't want to worry to much about what's visible when legs sprawl so leg suit is great. Mine is a cheapy from Wiggle, but lots to choose from, as long as you like black. :)

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 10/07/2017 20:06

It's a perfectly normal shape for fitness swimming.

When I was in the pool for pre-school swimming lessons, I wore a shorty wetsuit for the warmth as I wasn't moving enough to keep warm. No eyebrows were raised.

RiverTam · 10/07/2017 20:08

I have a sports one like that which is great. Sainsbo's had a really great gingham pattern 1950s style one with shorts, but just for kids! So annoying, it was really funky. There seem to be lots of 1950s style swimming costumes out there but none with shorts. Hurumph.

gleegeek · 10/07/2017 20:10

Anyone know where I could get a swimsuit which covers my thighs and also allows support for my 30H bust??? I have such dark hair on my pale thighs and itch like mad if I wax/shave it. I'll only swim on holiday where there's no chance of meeting people I know!
