What happens if all of the beds are full and a child deteriorates and needs one?

Notknownatthisaddress · 09/07/2017 19:56

Thanks @maudlinmaud Never noticed that. Very odd behaviour from the twitter girl.

Allhallowseve · 09/07/2017 19:56

They would be transferred to nearest picu balfe not ideal.

Allhallowseve · 09/07/2017 20:01

.........or stabilised on ward if a discharge of another parent back to a ward was imminent .

JustChangingForThis · 09/07/2017 20:02

Balfe

In my experience in acute adults they always manage to free up a cubicle. I work in discharge and sometimes the chain is long. So I may be asked to discharge somebody from a certain ward asap so Y can move to their bed and Z to Ys so the patient who is end of life can have Z's cubicle.

They always manage it, it's really quite amazing.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/07/2017 20:03

Thanks so much for sharing, everyone ... so it seems that Charlie might be in an "private" area or he might not

As Logical suggested, for the sake of the other sick children and their loved ones, let's hope he is

Balfe · 09/07/2017 20:03

Thank you.

TheWeeWitch · 09/07/2017 20:05

I think it's clear that twitter girl has some issues. I somehow feel, though, that "tits out for Charlie" is only slightly more ridiculous than some of the things CA have posted.

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 09/07/2017 20:16

Thanks so much for sharing, everyone ... so it seems that Charlie might be in an "private" area or he might not

I think he's probably in one of the cubicles but they are still on the main ward, just offer a bit more privacy I would think.

I notice from GOSH's PICU info page re: visits

"How many people can visit?
Please limit the number of visitors to a maximum of three at any one time (including the parents). Other visitors will be asked to wait outside the ward until a space becomes free."

So Connie + Chris + Pastor + photographer = 4

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/07/2017 20:22

You're right, Music. I thought about the pastor myself and counted three

But of course I forgot the photographer Hmm

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 09/07/2017 20:24

@crunchymum

The petition was set up by an American pro-life organisation.

I refuse to link it here. But here's a part of the signatory statement :

" It is not the purview of the state or the hospital to make these decisions for his parents.
I, and the entire international community, will be outraged if you kill Charlie Gard."

"

totallyliterally · 09/07/2017 20:25

As I think someone said before. If the pastor is so good and wanted to pray then would prayers not work from the waiting room / America.

But oh wait. That wouldn't have been a good photo.

For people who are conscious and have religious belief I can understand how comforting a priest visiting might be. But this was not about Charlie. This was about a PR stunt.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/07/2017 20:26

Come to think of it, I wonder who is taking all these photos? Whatever anyone's individual views about the content/advisability, they do look pretty well composed and high quality ... the one in the chapel, for instance

I hope to god they've not got a professional photog on standby ...

thatdearoctopus · 09/07/2017 20:29

When my mother was dying in hospital a few weeks back, a lovely hospital chaplain came along and offered a prayer reading in her room with the immediate family. It was beautiful and very healing and moving. No way in a million YEARS would we have allowed a fucking photographer in there with us.

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 09/07/2017 20:29

@goodbyestranger

One of the whispering men was the pastor, not sure about the other one,I assume it's one of the pastor's entourage.

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 09/07/2017 20:31

Whoever it was he prompted her to speak about the 7 other doctors who think he can be helped!

Someone has an agenda to push!!

sparechange · 09/07/2017 20:31

Come to think of it, I wonder who is taking all these photos?

The parents have hired a terrible, terrible publicist who runs a company called "FeaturesWorld", hence they all have that as a copyright watermark whenever they are published

This means a few things

  1. All the photos are posed for their own photographer
  2. They are being flogged to the press
  3. because they have hired their own photographer, they own the copyright, so will be charging for each and every time they are used.

If you look at FeaturesWorld's website, you will see their usual bread and butter is selling 'holiday waiter love rat' type stories to Take a Break and other trash

So just the sort of person you would look to hire if you are looking to raise awareness of your gravely ill child, in a sensitive and reasoned way, and not because you want to make a quick buck from your misery story being printed in the gutter press...

LogicalPsycho · 09/07/2017 20:34

Puzzledandpissedoff all photos released of the parents are handled by Featureworld.

Oops, I see the images did load after all.
Connie and Chris have sold Charlie's story and image in the same way you do to Take a Break I think.

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 09/07/2017 20:37

@SpareChange

I looked at that site when you mentioned it previously and I was shocked at how low rent they seem. God knows why the parents got involved with someone like that.

MrGrumpy01 · 09/07/2017 20:38

Just out of interest when they say the are fee free how do they make their money? They surely don't do it for nothing.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/07/2017 20:40

As I think someone said before. If the pastor is so good and wanted to pray then would prayers not work from the waiting room / America.

But oh wait. That wouldn't have been a good photo

It might not have been a good publicity and money making opportunity either Hmm

I can't say about this particular pastor, but as anyone who's watched some of American "evangelical christians" in action will know, what they tend to want most of all is your cash

TheFairyCaravan · 09/07/2017 20:40

There's complete disregard for everyone else in GOSH. It's actually quite disgusting.

CaveMum · 09/07/2017 20:40

MrGrumpy they may not charge a direct fee to the client but take a commission on proceeds from the sale of pictures/interviews/etc.
