Do you think the nurses or Drs have been able to tell the parents what is actually happening to him and why he is becoming bloated?

I do wonder if they have been able to be honest. They must be worried anything they say will be twisted and reported to the press.

muckypup73 · 09/07/2017 09:19

LapinR0se, that is why I do not bother, I would seriously get grrrrr.

Ellie56 · 09/07/2017 09:23

The medical staff will have kept the parents informed. Whether the parents have actually taken it on board is another matter. They still don't believe he is brain damaged or could be in pain. Shock

MirandaWest · 09/07/2017 09:23

I look occasionally. I'm not quite sure why

Caprianna · 09/07/2017 09:25

I do not understand why the parents can dictate his treatment. It is starting to look abusive to me now.

MrGrumpy01 · 09/07/2017 09:27

I can't understand why these 'we have a cure' and 'look at me i have the same condition and I'm well' are just coming out the woodwork now.

The former surely would have spoken out way back in April and/or the world leading expert would have known about their research.

The latter? Well seeing no one has survived with the condition (again if she had the world leading expert would know about her) I guess we could presume she is a faker, but why now?

muckypup73 · 09/07/2017 09:30

Caprianna, I guess unfortuately in this day and age with all the media and internet people think they can abuse it and use it to abuse it, it makes me cringe the absolutely disgusting amount of money that Gosh are probably having to use to pay for all these court cases and stuff espscially when that money is used to save childrens lives, other children, children that may be able to make it in life, i actually am finding this very sickening.

muckypup73 · 09/07/2017 09:31

MrGrumpy01, they are probably out for a bit of attention.

goodbyestranger · 09/07/2017 09:33

Agree about the money muckypup.

I do feel for Charlie's parents and the fact that this is a genetic condition will always carry with it some parental guilt. "I gave my child this, I need to fix it." Counselling will have been offered for this and most parents come to terms with this, but it takes time, often years. In Charlie's case the decline has been very very fast. That makes acceptance so much harder and I am sure the guilt is driving so much of this behaviour.
A friend of mine who has had a terrible loss in her life always quotes "Life isn't measured by the number of breathes but the moments that take your breath away." Charlie unfortunately wasn't meant for a long life. I hope his parents can begin to find some peace by focusing on what they had, rather the mythical 'what we should have had'. I am not in there situation but I truly hope I would feel that my child having a short but happy life was preferable to an extended but painful one.

ChairoftheBored · 09/07/2017 09:49

The medical staff will absolutely have been open and honest, under their duty of candour.

They are also bound professionally, ethically and legally to act in Charlie's best interests. These sadly seem to have diverged from the parents' interest some time ago.

I say this with no judgement of them - the pain they are experiencing is something i can only imagine. I have had a close family member with a long term reversible brain injury. There was some time where despite the doctors' honest compassion it took some time for us to be in the place emotionally where we agreed that in the best interests of the family member we should withdraw treatment.

It was the hardest, bravest decision I've ever made. To put my own feelings and desperate need for a cure to one side and act in the interest of my dear mum. That's what CA and these 'men of God' need to be doing. Help his parents face their own grief, put it to one side and dig into reserves of courage they can't even imagine and let Charlie go.

moobeana · 09/07/2017 09:51

Ok I am very late to this, I have of course been aware of the horrible situation which has been unfolding over the past 10 months, but I am a little confused on some points. Please forgive my ignorance, I am a bit bambozzled by all the press / faecebook / gosh information which differs.

As I understand it he is a terribly ill boy who has a genetic condition which some believed could be helped by a doctor in America. This has, by most, been agreed to not really be viable.

They have been to court 3 times and each time GOSH has won, I thought this meant they were going to remove care as they believe he is in pain and has no quality of life.

I thought the date for removal of care was last Friday? What happened?

Now some are talking about court tomorrow? For what purpose?

When are they going to just stop, hold their son and say goodbye, surely it cannot go on like this for much longer?

Laiste · 09/07/2017 09:55

That last photo. :)

To the posters asking why the need for another thread? why are we still discussing this here? what's the point? Well IMO it's massively important that somewhere there's some bloody sense being talked. In real time. It's a small counter to the crap being posted on FB 24/7 by CA.

Why should those nutcases be the only ones to be allowed to air their views and the rest of us be allowed only roll our eyes and keep quiet? They're the ones causing the damage.

If these threads included fake pictures of landmarks being lit up in the name of 'Let Charlie Die' then you'd be right to question it. If these threads were calling for MNers to wave placards outside the hospital calling the staff monsters you'd be right to question it. We're not though - we're just a bunch of ordinary people sharing our thoughts here. Sadly it won't actually help charlie, that's true at least :(

Laiste · 09/07/2017 09:56

That of course should have been a :( at the photo. Sorry.

CloudPerson · 09/07/2017 10:00

The 10% chance of improvement - wasn't this the figure suggested before the American dr knew how much he'd deteriorated? I imagine 10% is now obsolete, yet it's still being misunderstood as being a chance of full recovery.
This is awful for all involved, but the mob mentality of CA is making it far, far worse.

Alittlepotofrosie · 09/07/2017 10:01

@moobeana the parents think they have new evidence that means there is treatment that would help charlie. Gosh disagree so that's why gosh are referring it back to court. They can't now let him go in accordance with the ruling because the army of idiots are so riled up and hellbent on destrying goshs reputation.

muckypup73 · 09/07/2017 10:03

CloudPerson, from what I have read is the fact that when they said he had a 10% chance they were not actually told how bad his condition was.

CloudPerson · 09/07/2017 10:04

I'm not sure GOSH can come out of this in a positive way now.
Whatever the outcome, they will be held responsible. If the treatment is tried, but fails (as it inevitable will), they will be criticised for not carrying it out months ago. If they continue down the same route of allow him to die with dignity, they will face more accusations of murder.

CloudPerson · 09/07/2017 10:04

Yes mucky, that's what I meant.

Ellie56 · 09/07/2017 10:04

Laiste

It is all explained here:

www.gosh.nhs.uk/news/latest-press-releases/latest-statement-charlie-gard

goodbyestranger · 09/07/2017 10:05

It's going back to court because of the wider issues raised too I think, which now go way beyond Charlie.

ItsNachoCheese · 09/07/2017 10:06

I dont see how gosh "cant come out of this well" as they havent done anything wrong all they have done is care for a terminally ill baby with the utmost care

Ellie56 · 09/07/2017 10:06

Sorry that was for moobeana

goodbyestranger · 09/07/2017 10:07

CloudPerson it seems to me that GOSH's whole approach has been unimpeachable - I have limitless respect.

muckypup73 · 09/07/2017 10:08

Do you know what the sad truth is? Charlieis at deaths door and he is going to die no matter what, when he dies there will be an outcry, but a few months down the line it will all be forgotten about, the thing is this needs to be written in stone so something like this cannot happen ever again. When a decision is made that should be it, final.
