Jacob Rees-Mogg - Prime Minister?

weresquirrel · 08/07/2017 14:37

I know he is very posh and comes across as old fashioned and a bit quirky/eccentric, but he came across very well on Question Time, made some good points and seemed to understand a lot of the problems people are going through, was articulate and not shouty.

I know a lot of people will hate him simply because he is "posh", rich and old fashioned but would he make a good Prime Minister? I think he would.

If MN dislike him, he must be good. I like him a lot, and think he would be a great PM. Quite a few people do.

Birdsbeesandtrees · 08/07/2017 19:07

What do you like him for

Birdsbeesandtrees · 08/07/2017 19:10

I am baffled at people who decide the like politicians and then go on to state they have no idea about what that particular politician has done in their job. Surely that's the first thing anyone would look at when deciding who to vote for ?!?

SomethingOnce · 08/07/2017 19:19

Did anyone hear JR-M and little Sixtus on Radio4 Dead Ringers today?

Brilliant.

DR is generally fantastic at the moment. Especially love Govey's voicemails and Trump's calls to Spicer.

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/07/2017 19:26

Yes, the current crop of domestic and international politicians has been a gift for them! Love Spicey's 4am calls from Trump.

Sorry for sidetrack, everyone. As you were.

BertrandRussell · 08/07/2017 19:29

"I like him a lot, and think he would be a great PM"

Why do you like him and why do you think he would be a great PM?

NerosFiddle · 08/07/2017 19:31

Can a Catholic become PM?

Rhayader · 08/07/2017 19:32

I like him. But then I can't stand JC.

Most people here dont seem to understand that most of these votes are whipped anyway. It's the party line which the vast majority of MPs vote with.

JC is an exception but that's why he's having such a hard time as leader. When a rebel becomes a leader nobody follows them, because it's pretty hypocritical to force people to follow the party line when you didn't... And then you are left with a revolving door shadow cabinet because half the party have been fired.

Scaverin · 08/07/2017 19:33

Wasn't Tony Blair a Catholic?

Catholics can't become royals.

MagicMoneyTree · 08/07/2017 19:34

FUCK THAT.

BertrandRussell · 08/07/2017 19:35

"I like him"

What do you like about him?

user1495961005 · 08/07/2017 19:37

'Why do you like him and why do you think he would be a great PM?'

Because I vote conservative, agree with most (but not all) of his views, and find him to be articulate, intelligent and honest.

squishysquirmy · 08/07/2017 19:38

No!
I don't dislike him because he's "posh". Nor because he went to public school.

I dislike him as a politician because of his voting record, his policies, the things he says, the things he does and the fact that I don't think he is that intelligent. Very well educated, yes, but not that bright.

Oddly, I don't hate him, because there is something sort of affable about him in a cliche British Hugh Grant owl eyed kind of a way. I wouldn't be surprised if he is very pleasant in person (but have nothing to base this on). If he was an outspoken TV presenter with his tongue stuck firmly in his cheek I might quite like him!
But I don't want him in charge of anything important. I wouldn't let him run a Tombola at a school fete, never mind PM!

Rhayader · 08/07/2017 19:39

BertrandRussell

I find him witty and intelligent and I agree with him on brexit, taxation, HS2 etc

histinyhandsarefrozen · 08/07/2017 19:41

He might as well be pm.

The brexiteers want to bring this country to its knees- he will hasten the process nicely for them.

harshbuttrue1980 · 08/07/2017 19:42

I don't think he's as upper crust as he makes out - he seems like a bit of a wannabe. Someone truly upper class would never sell pictures of their kids to a newspaper. Also, the real upper classes tend to treat their personal staff well, and someone with class would have given their nanny a grace and favour cottage and a pension in their golden years, not expect them to look after 6 kids single handedly. My granny used to be a housekeeper, and she always said that the real upper classes were great to work for and looked after their staff, and the middle classes who wanted to be upper class were twats.

Birdsbeesandtrees · 08/07/2017 19:44

And equal rights ?

Human rights ?

Benefits for people with disabilities ?

The bedroom tax ?

Tuition fees ?

Naicehamshop · 08/07/2017 19:46

notangelinajolie - could you explain why you like him?
You do know that he has consistently voted against gay rights, don't you?

Naicehamshop · 08/07/2017 19:49

Anyone who thinks they "quite like him", have a lock at bollocks post at 16.24 where she summarises his appalling voting record.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 08/07/2017 20:03

You thought he would make a good pm but you had no idea of his views or voting record?

Fuck- we deserve all the shit and misery we are about to get.

RandomlyGenerated · 08/07/2017 20:18

To describe someone who goes campaigning in central Fife with his nanny in a Mercedes as "in touch with the people" is frankly delusional.

They come frae near Lochgelly ...

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 08/07/2017 20:21

Tempting as it is to go for someone who riles the righteous MN populace to this extent, he really would not be a good party leader. To his credit, I'm sure he knows that and will not attempt to take advantage of the fact that the British electorate at present appears to be largely comprised of gamblers and fools.

RandomlyGenerated · 08/07/2017 20:29

He's an investment manager, gamblers and fools are his bread-and-butter.

BertrandRussell · 08/07/2017 20:40

People do have very odd reasons for wanting people to be PM don't they? Nice manners, winding up people on Mumsnet, "I quite like him" "He's funny on HIGNIFY"..............
