To shower backwards. Whichever way do you?

Plumber sorting shower today. DF said put it on this wall, later said you face window when showering. I said well I'll face sink but shower will be on window wall. Long story short. DF faces the shower and was incredulous that I don't. I have my back to shower when I'm washing my hair and body and only turn round to wash suds off. He said he can't believe anyone would do this.
Have I been doing it wrong all my life? How do you shower?

I start facing the shower, then turn. Otherwise, I'd only be half-done.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 07/07/2017 17:34

I'm a back to the shower girl too, though when rinsing hair i stand side on and then face opposite. Only face the water to rinse out my mouth after brushing my teeth and to wash the soap off my face, warm water on my tummy makes me feel like i need a wee, so strange. I also cant stand water on my face unless i deliberately put it on my face, so even just the light spray can make me panic. I nearly drowned in the shower once, was washing my face, had my eyes shut, took a deep breath before i close my mouth and hold it while i shove my head under but got too close, inhaled a load of water not air. Body was making me cough it up while i was desperately trying to breathe in, it was awful.

sodablackcurrant · 07/07/2017 17:36

Face shower, wash body and bits.

Turn around, wash hair.

I need therapy if this is not the MN way to do it lol!

FruBayerischOla · 07/07/2017 17:49

"I shower the same way as you OP. Never thought of having my back to the shower." I think you misinterpreted what the OP said, mumeeee, she says she has her back to the shower - except for final rinsing!

ChezFru. Back to shower for both DP and me. I do a twirly for face rinsing. Not sure everything DP does, but I'm sure he's mainly back to shower!

rightwhine · 07/07/2017 17:50

I don't like water on my face.
Definitely back to the shower and the shower head positioned so it hits on the shoulders but if I tilt my head back I can wash my hair without soap getting into my eyes.
I couldn't cope with a rainfall shower.

Who doesn't mind the soap in their eyes when washing their hair? How do you see?

MikeUniformMike · 07/07/2017 17:50

facing shower.

SpaghettiAndMeatballs · 07/07/2017 17:52

DP and I both shower both ways - although, we also spend the majority with our back towards back to shower (and are of radically different heights, and I'm a woman and he's a man).

This has held true in fixed showers, un fixed heads, rainfall, even (actually especially) one time in one of those multi-headed showers in a hotel.

The only time I wouldn't is if I definitely mustn't get my hair wet for some reason.

Toysaurus · 07/07/2017 17:54

This is so fascinating. I face the shower. And sometimes I do lean forward under the spray and stare down pensively Pretending I'm in an action film.

9GreenBottles · 07/07/2017 17:56

How do you wash your face if you don't face the shower?

I start facing the shower, turn to rinse hair, then turn back to wash face.

yummycake123 · 07/07/2017 17:56

I face the shower except when I rinse my hair.

MaryShelley1818 · 07/07/2017 18:03

I face the shower except when I'm rinsing my hair! I'm genuinely shocked anyone does it differently! Grin

kaytee87 · 07/07/2017 18:05

Back to shower. DH back to shower also.

kaytee87 · 07/07/2017 18:06

Actually I occasionally face the shower if my hair is tied up and I'm just having a quick wash instead of a full shower & hair wash.

user1498911470 · 07/07/2017 18:13

I'm tall and I face away from the shower.

TheKitchenWitch · 07/07/2017 18:15

Facing shower otherwise hair always gets wet whether I want it to or not. Also it would feel weird to have water coming at me from behind the whole time. Turn to rinse hair.
Cannot abide water on my face so it's at a height where that doesn't happen. Ever.
I think it might be a height thing though. I am very tall.

Surfingwhippet · 07/07/2017 18:16

OK quick survey here
DS1 and I shower with our back to the shower
DH spins around
DS2 and DD showers with their front to the shower so not totally convinced there's a gender divide

Whatthefoxgoingon · 07/07/2017 18:21

Backwards.

I have a massive rainfall shower head and I'm not that tall. If I faced the shower I'd drown Grin

BlahBlahBlahEtc · 07/07/2017 18:24

I spin in that bad boy Shock

MrGrumpy01 · 07/07/2017 18:25

Back to shower.

I have many a discussion at work about this but it seems a majority of people face the shower. (It is relevant to my work rather than me having random conversations about showering) and people seem quite determined to maintain their status quo even if they are making things more difficult.

CheeseGirl4 · 07/07/2017 18:30

I face the shower. I was incredulous to learn a couple of years ago that people would consider a different option.

TroysMammy · 07/07/2017 18:33

Back to shower. Does your DF think he's in an advert every time he washes?

TroysMammy · 07/07/2017 18:35

I hardly ever wash my face in the shower, it's not good for your skin apparently and after washing my hair and body I usually forget.

SabineUndine · 07/07/2017 18:37

I mostly face it but I do revolve a couple of times.

Doubledottvremote · 07/07/2017 18:37

I do both

SweetChickadee · 07/07/2017 18:40

Back to shower, can't abide it hitting my face

Sounds like some of you need to buy a shower cap for the non hair wash days ... sexy they're not, but they do the job Grin
