I've noticed it being used more and more. Today on Facebook a Boden ad popped up - 'we're curating a collection of clothing for all the family' Hmm. What a load of bobbins.

Also, home interior magazines. 'Saskia curates a collection of bohemian trinkets and retro objects' Saskia has a load of old car boot tut in her drawing room.

Unless you are in charge of a museum using the word 'curating' should be banned, you pretentious arses.

Oh "deconstructed" fgs I had a deconstructed lemon meringue pie in a restaurant recently it was just a biscuit as a base some lemon cream on it and piped meringue in a little pattern on the plate WHY????

woodhill · 07/07/2017 08:10

Reminds me of those home magazines. I do buy them but the people can be so smug.

JigglyTuff · 07/07/2017 08:10

Oh and can we add hacks to the list as in '10 shopping hacks'. I was asked to write an article once on 'hacks' and I had to ask what they meant. Tips basically. A tip is not a hack.

bbcessex · 07/07/2017 08:10

🤣🤣🤣
It's the word of the moment in my world (technology). Shortly to be replaced by something equally abstract, no doubt.

There must be a list of buzz words throughout the ages, surely? (Or is that just 'blue sky thinking'? 😜)

EdmundCleverClogs · 07/07/2017 08:11

Yanbu, there really is an influx of wanky language use at the moment. I've said this before, but I always roll my eyes when people say their children have been 'crafting'. Unless they are making bespoke furniture or brewing a special beer, using a bit of pva glue, cardboard and pipe cleaners isn't 'crafting'.

Crumblevision · 07/07/2017 08:12

I have found my people. 👏

flowery · 07/07/2017 08:14

I don't really understand what retailers actually mean when they say "handpicked". As opposed to what?

Handpicked to me is something you do with strawberries.

CookieLady · 07/07/2017 08:17

Amen. Load of tosh.

bbcessex · 07/07/2017 08:17

Flowery.. in my world, that means selected by a human rather than the result of an algorithm .

Very much doubt those hotels were handpicked though...

sleepyhead · 07/07/2017 08:18

The one that's giving me rage at the moment is "speak to" in the context of "would anyone like to speak to the report?".

In language of last year this did have been "talk about" but my manager went on a course and came back with "speak to" Hmm

Crumblevision · 07/07/2017 08:18

Clopy - your cows breast nectar made me spit my coffee out 😂 (freeze dried colombian with a sprinkle of madagascar's unrefined golden cane) natch

ClopySow · 07/07/2017 08:24

I don't take golden cane in my freeze dried columbian, but if i did, it would be unrefined and harvested by virgins.

Tumilnaughts · 07/07/2017 08:27

Yuk, my own mother used this word last week to mean 'going through some pictures and deleting the shite ones' and I wanted to kick her out of my house!
I agree all of these other suggestions are awful as well especially 'Hack'. utter nonsense.

brokenshoes · 07/07/2017 08:28

People on lifestyle blogs always seem to keep items just out of arms' length: "when I feel peckish, i'll reach for a handful of nuts", "if it's a bit chilly, i'll reach for my cardigan".

Angry

Decks! That's what it means!

DH and DS are in the same business, constantly chatting to each other in acronyms and referring to decks. No wonder I was confused. Our dog is called Dex.

laurzj82 · 07/07/2017 08:31

Gimble YY to "piece!" I am always shouting at the TV for that one. It's not a piece, it's a fucking skirt!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/07/2017 08:32

the curated life

Those photographs! What pretentious wankery is this?!

If fact, that should be Pretentious Wankery.

(Or is that pretentious wankery of itself? )

MrsBakedBean · 07/07/2017 08:37

I think it's just people trying to be smart. They're not.

yummycake123 · 07/07/2017 08:42

YANBU! I work in tech and this stupid word is going around at the moment. It gives me so much RAGE!!!

UrsulaPandress · 07/07/2017 08:43

A coven of pr people come up with this guff.

alteredimages · 07/07/2017 08:43

I am pretty pretentious and wankery myself but even I can't stand 'curated' as an adjective or verb. Hack pisses me off too.

Probably just proof that I am fast becoming a curmudgeon.

My DCs are forever 'curating' at home. We have bespoke leaf, twig, rock and bug collections. Envy (puke face)

alteredimages · 07/07/2017 08:45

Pretentious wankers would definitely not capitalise words, especially their own names, to show how cool and egalitarian and wise they are.

MinisterForSmallFountains · 07/07/2017 08:46

You are so right - utter bobbins.
That Forbes article is ace. I must do me a personal rhythm inventory soon.

MrsJayy · 07/07/2017 08:46

Locally sourced products gets on my wick soo you went down the shops

TheFaerieQueene · 07/07/2017 08:46

I'm curating an Ocado order as we speak. Grin
