To think £45 for a parking sign is ridiculous? Don't worry, there's a diagram...

The diagram isn't actually that important but I know I need to earn your advice.

Basically we live on a private estate with very limited parking. There are two spaces for each home and half a dozen for the office on the estate. The office owns the car park freehold and maintain it. The Mill has some extra visitors spaces but The Meadows can only use the office spaces at weekends and evenings.

Recently the whole car park was resurfaced at eye watering expense. Everyone paid an equal share, although quite a few people feel that they had to hand over their money whether they wanted to spend a fortune or not.

There are two entrances to the drive. The Meadows houses have a regular gate on theirs and The Mill have a fancy electric gate, which they pay to have maintained.

Most people on the estate are completely normal but it seems that there is a parking monitor somewhere in The Mill. They are convinced people are using the wrong parking spaces, the wrong entrances and blah blah blah blah blah.

This manifests itself as perpetual passive aggressive complaints being sent through the freehold owner in the office. We ignore.

However some mad fool has got it into their head that the only way to fix our problems is for each space to have a sign. The signs must all be the same and the one suggested is going to cost £45 each.

There's no way on earth I'm paying that much for a bloody car parking spot sign. But if I'm going to object the least I can do is offer an alternative.

My first thought was to get a metal Kestrel for each spot, but for some reason they seem to be all sold out right now. I can't suggest a penguin bollard because it needs to be classy Confused.

So oh wise women of Mumsnet, what would you suggest?

Paint numbers on the ground

Justhadmyhaircut · 05/07/2017 20:52

Ma Boswell style cones. .

amousehaseatenmypaddlingpool · 05/07/2017 20:53

Sorry, can't paint numbers because the surface is gravel, crap hard to ride a bike over gravel. Angry

How big a sign? How does it need to be mounted?

cafetea · 05/07/2017 20:58

do you all have allocated spaces or if not how will the spaces be specifically allocated?

SquinkiesRule · 05/07/2017 20:59

Do your own research into signs and send round the info on a cheaper alternative for each parking space.

HoneyDragon · 05/07/2017 21:00

I paid £12 to have a perspex house sign made AND fitted to my house. They are taking the pictures as with £45.

TheRattleBag · 05/07/2017 21:05

£45 is ridiculous. What about something like this, at eleven quid including delivery? (presuming you don't need >999!)

Black Acrylic House Number

loaferloveforyou · 05/07/2017 21:05

Why do they have to be the same?

Lovely diagram by the way

ChasedByBees · 05/07/2017 21:05

You must be able to do it cheaper. I found some generic house number sign s on acrylic for £20. You could be more functional than that too.

It may well be that the person is having issues with a neighbour parking in their space.

It might be quite useful to have them clearly marked, saves, 'oh I misunderstood' later.

amousehaseatenmypaddlingpool · 05/07/2017 21:07

They're currently talking about mounting against walls or on poles if there isn't a wall. I haven't been sent details of the suggested sign yet and I can't find anything online that would be that price. I don't see why we can't all just have regular metal numbers drilled onto the walls or curbs - what we used to have. Apparently that's not clear enough.

We've all had our spots allocated and most of us follow the rules. Unfortunately the Parking Monitor seems to have nothing else to do other than watch the car park all day and send complaints out to the freeholder the moment any visitor/builder/delivery driver stops in a reserved bay for even a few minutes. They also seem to be watching to see who goes in which gate, even though it's not physically possible to do without standing on the main road all day and chasing cars as they go in.

Sorry if this feels like drip feeding. It's been going on for weeks and I'd forgotten half of the stupidity that's gone along with it. I'd like to ignore the whole thing but if I do I'll end up getting a bill for ninety quid or every builder that ever visits in my spaces because they're the only none marked one.

Rattle - that's more like it! Much nicer than the ones I found.

They have to be the same because the freeholder says so. Confused

LaurieFairyCake · 05/07/2017 21:12

But how would you differentiate between metal kestrels Confused

£45 sounds ok for this shit to be over

Biggreygoose · 05/07/2017 21:15

Printed aluminium about a4 sized would be approx 40 quid depending on reflective coating. So in that sense the price isn't outlandish.

There are cheaper alternatives though, look at plastic house signs as pp suggested.

Biggreygoose · 05/07/2017 21:17

125mm isn't huge. I would suggest something larger....

amousehaseatenmypaddlingpool · 05/07/2017 21:17

£90, two spaces. And fitting on top. And there's no way it'll be over.

OP posts:
amousehaseatenmypaddlingpool · 05/07/2017 21:17

The kestrels could have medallions with the numbers on them. Grin

Crikey, you have taken the parking diagram up a few levels! I hope I'm never in the position to have to ask for MN advice re parking as I won't be able to come close. 😱

amousehaseatenmypaddlingpool · 05/07/2017 21:18

My parking diagram is nothing compared to Gif lady earlier this week!

amousehaseatenmypaddlingpool · 05/07/2017 21:19

Forty A4 parking signs are going to look a bit OTT aren't they?

OP posts:
hippyhippyshake · 05/07/2017 21:20

Ha I missed that one! Link?

amousehaseatenmypaddlingpool · 05/07/2017 21:26

iPad won't let me link, it was 3/7. Orlatina's diagram moved

OP posts:
cafetea · 05/07/2017 21:32

A sign wont stopping people parking in unallocated places - but it's only the parking monitor that has spotted this and is troubled by it. You've had the resurfacing costs so it is reasonable to not have any more expenses for the parking.

How about one or two large signs which diagram the parking spaces then a few different coloured posts, say one every 4 spaces the colours marked on the diagrams to show the layout
