I'm going on holiday soon. I have nothing to wear. Actually I've nowt to wear when I'm not on holiday! Have a uniform for work, the rest of the time I look passable actually I'm starting to look very tatty

I've got money to spend but I go into town and practically have an anxiety attack as I enter the shops!

Anyone else feel this way?

I'd like to look stylish but I just look awful in everything.

I am thin - but not in a good way. Small and thin. I look like an old urchin. Petite ranges are a) too short and b) too "jolly" .

I like the Scandi look but Scandinavian women must all be 7ft tall with big ol' shoulders. Plus those clothes make me look like an emaciated Sandi Toksvig.

MrsJayy · 05/07/2017 09:09

Too jolly Grin love the thought of im not wearing that it is far to jolly.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 05/07/2017 09:11

I wish l hated it☹️I love clothes, but they cost money.

The80sweregreat · 05/07/2017 09:15

i hate swimsuit shopping too - i have to buy the ones that cover me up a lot and they are more expensive than the more revealing ones you can get, that are suitable for younger fitter women than me!
none of them look flattering.
i much prefer a jumper and jeans, winter wear suits me much more.

gttia · 05/07/2017 09:23

Me too, I've done everything on line this year, even my wedding dress!!

I like next, it fits my shape and is age appropriate for me to wear at work and home.

Panda81 · 05/07/2017 09:23

I'm in the hate it camp. Sad to see so many of us in it!

I've been looking forward to skinny jeans going out of fashion for about 10 years as my bigger thighs and bum just do not suit, even at my slimmest/fittest when it was mostly muscle.

I've got the added complication of being pregnant and like PP said with being Tall, these categories are pretty much online only so you have to pay upfront to try lots of items on, slows down the shopping and gets very frustrating.

Wotrewelookinat · 05/07/2017 09:28

Yep, I hate it with a passion. I buy all my clothes online, in charity shops or supermarkets. Absolutely hate clothes shopping with my daughters, but they're not quite old enough to go by themselves.

diodati · 05/07/2017 09:29

I always shop online now. I use my measurements in centimetres & in inches and blitz through eBay. It's fun, you can find some real bargains, and you can almost always find exactly what you want. I love Romwe, too. Sizes very small so be warned.

MrsJayy · 05/07/2017 09:34

My dds ask me do you think this is nice my default response is if you like it frustrates them im just not very good at liking clothes

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 05/07/2017 09:40

I have today off because I need clothes, for everything.

I am sitting here on MN because I am dreading it. 9.40 and no sign of me shifting off the sofa yet!

Oliversmumsarmy · 05/07/2017 09:52

Do people have wardrobes of clothes. I am so disappointed interested in clothes shopping all my clothes are in one draw. That is everything I own, underwear dresses, trousers and the shirts and cardigans. I have a flip flops for summer, a pair of Primark Uggs for winter and some heavy duty boots.
I am trying to find a clean t.shirt that isn't covered in paint or cement because I have a special occasion to go to.

I don't hate shopping I love shopping for my dd and ds but for me i look so horrendous in clothes that I can't face spending money on something that makes me look dreadful

Oliversmumsarmy · 05/07/2017 09:53

Disappointed = disinterested

washinggotdarkedon · 05/07/2017 09:56

Did someone mention swimsuit shopping?
We're off for our annual poolside holiday
I will wear my ancient cozzie with a cover-up and seek out the shade, whilst my olive skinned DD frolics in her first ever bikini!

Paddlingwhenishould - be brave, get out there - you can do it! Follow Rumwithaview's advice and don't buy a wok!

Crispsheets · 05/07/2017 10:00

Yes being tall (6 feet) with size 9 narrow feet means nearly all shopping is online.
I do like Cos for cigarette trousers and Crispins for shoes.

Rumtopf · 05/07/2017 10:00

Rumwithaview that made me laugh!

Sometimes I hate it, others it's like the light of the God's is shining down upon me and everything is magical.

Be ruthless with your wardrobe, if it doesn't fit properly, you're not sure about it or haven't worn it in three years bag it up. (I vacuum pack and put them in the spare room wardrobe in case I change my mind/lose weight). Then think about what you need to make whole outfits. It's normally best if you have a few specific items in mind.

The80sweregreat · 05/07/2017 10:01

I am so glad its not just me that hates it - i put a lot of my problems down to being overweight and having this odd shape and just not knowing what suits me. i go into a shop and i lose the will to live.
i hide away on holiday and watch as the mega tanned bikini women pose around and i am going red and blotchy in my cover me up thing and a sarong feeling all self consious and horrible.
clothes and i do not get on.

Dowser · 05/07/2017 10:01

Not at all.
I buy constantly throughout the year.
If I see something I like at a price I'm prepared to pay I buy it.
Depending on the season, but normally I will wear it that day or the day after.
I bought a dress a few weeks ago and ended up cleaning and painting in it.
I don't like to keep things for best.

Dowser · 05/07/2017 10:05

Reading your post rumptof had me thinking that is why I changed to dresses a few years ago.
Makes life so much easier. All I Need to do is match my dress to my jacket.

Oliversmumsarmy · 05/07/2017 10:07

Dowser you miss the point. We don't get as far as the shop door let alone browsing racks of clothes to find something we like.

ISaySteadyOn · 05/07/2017 10:18

Also, I found something I liked once plucked up the courage to try it on, looked in the mirror and looked dreadful. Clothes I like look crap on me. My body is not meant for nice clothes really. Also, anyone else besides me hate mirrors? I never ever look into them if I can avoid it which you can't when trying things on.

Pandoraslastchance · 05/07/2017 10:43

Im fat, have short legs but a long torso so trousers trail behind me and tops are constantly exposing my belly. I fucking hate, and i do mean hate, trying on clothes in a shop as i get so bloody hot and paranoid. I dont know what suits me or what makes me look ridiculous.

I actuallu cried the other day as i appear to have worn out my best jeans due to chub rub.

MrsJayy · 05/07/2017 10:50

I am fine looking in mirrors i just have a not very stylish issue I think i need a stylist Grin

MrsJayy · 05/07/2017 10:53

Because im so small i drown in floaty tops trousers bunch at the knees jeans irritate scars i have its a bloody nightmare

CupOfTeaAndAGoodBook · 05/07/2017 11:08

Do not buy a wok when you're clothes shopping
Grin I need someone like you to take me clothes shopping!

I hate clothes shopping except when pregnant. Then it's magic because you're ALLOWED to wear sacks and no ones expecting you to look slim or anything other than pregnant. And my boobs suddenly blossom and look great.

Alas, I will never be pregnant again, and am stuck with flat saggy awful boobs which make my rather round tummy look huge by comparison. It's amazing how fat you can look when there's nothing up top to kind of balance you out. Added to which I've given up work so even if I could bear to shop, I can't really afford to.

Meh Sad

The80sweregreat · 05/07/2017 12:57

If I'm out and I see a mirror I duck or close my eyes. I don't go in changing rooms, 3 d mirrors terrify me. I have a phobia I think!
