Just once, I'd like to look round a National Trust property without someone telling me about it. You can avoid eye contact in properties with larger rooms, but I've just been to a small property , so just me in a series of tiny rooms with a very nice lady/man sitting in the corner, just waiting to tell me about it. I just don't need it and want to make my own mind about it.

Completely agree style I often see things in the garden that I would love to know more about, sometimes you are lucky and there is a plant label, more often than not there isn't. I tend to photograph things, then when I get home I put the photo on Twitter and ask for help identifying, or sometimes I email the picture to the NT and ask them, they usually reply. But it would be a lot easier if someone were there to answer questions at the time.

In their defence, I think the gardens are worked by a really small team of people who do an amazing job and must be dreadfully busy, so maybe there just isn't time!

I suppose It would be unfair to expect them to know the names of every single plant in the garden.
However, if it's a huge tree that's obviously been there a hundred years or more and is a main feature of the property and in a prominent position, or say, a giant creeper that's been growing on the house for a long time, ) then they should know something about it surely.

Good idea about taking pics and identifying them later!
