School makes children clean if they talk in class?

What are your thoughts on this? It seems to be a regular occasion in our school, children who say something in one particular class without raising their hand are made to wash windows in break time. Mine have not done it yet (!) but they talk about it. Aibu to think this is not acceptable. This is secondary school.

Slightly different situation but I agree with the school! My dad who's almost 7 was in shower other night and she had taken the shower head off the wall and was spraying it around everywhere. I'd left her in shower while I dressed my 1 year old for bed. Anyway she's done this twice before and I made her clean the floor to moo up the water. Obviously doing that had no effect so this time I handed her a bottle of anti-bac and a cloth and told her to clean the whole bathroom and stood in the doorway to make sure she had done it! Safe to say she's not made that kind of mess again! She knows if she makes a mess she cleans it up, if she doesn't want to clean she shouldn't make the mess!

I don't see it doing any harm. If they hate cleaning they won't break the rules!

I'm another who thinks is a good idea. I have secondary school age children and they often say there is loads of talking in class and it disrupts the lessons. If one of mine came home and said they'd had a detention washing windows for talking in class, I'd have said it serves them right for talking and back the school up 100%.
