To think this woman should absolutely not be allowed to return to the UK

I know some people may argue about human rights and the fact that she's a British citizen she should be allowed to return to the country where she was born, but even if ISIS changed their stance and let her go, the UK government should do all they can to stop her coming here IMO. Very dangerous lady.

Puzzled, I didn't call anyone names.

Sure, people have avoided custodial sentences when it would have been in breach of their human rights. And thank goodness for that.

QuiteUnfitBit · 04/07/2017 12:12

Is this story even true? Perhaps it's "fake news" to get her murdered by ISIS.

DreichAgain · 04/07/2017 12:13

Throw the book at her and then some.

TheSecretMrsFairbrother · 04/07/2017 12:15

I know I'm being picky but up thread Sally Jones was referred to as the 'white widow'.

Samantha Lewthwaite, widow of Germaine Lindsay (one of the 7/7 bombers) is actually the woman dubbed by the media as being the 'white widow'.
She allegedly took part in the Westgate terror attack in Nairobi.

MiddleEnglandLives · 04/07/2017 12:21

Maybe it's 'fake news' to get us to accept a 'reformed' known Daesh recruiter back in our midst. They will be getting desperate.

If she does come back I agree it should be straight into solitary confinement. Unfortunately the boy would have to be watched as well as cared for.

What ever happened to her? Does anybody know?

WinnieTheMe · 04/07/2017 12:27

So if she shouldn't be let back in where should she go? Why should a foreign country which owes her even less be obliged to deal with her?

She comes back and is put on trial here surely?

0nline · 04/07/2017 12:30

I know I'm being picky but up thread Sally Jones was referred to as the 'white widow'

Apologies. I muddled up the two.

abbsisspartacus · 04/07/2017 12:31

Could we prove she has done anything? Can we even prosecute under our laws for crimes committed in another country?

VestalVirgin · 04/07/2017 12:32

How the fuck do some people here think they can just "not allow" a citizen to return to the UK?
I am sure we all would like to just throw our criminals out of the country, but it fucking doesn't work that way!

If she manages to come back, you have to take her back, and that's it.
Like it or not, this woman grew up in the UK and developed her crazy attitude there. Take some responsibility.

0nline · 04/07/2017 12:33

Actually, maybe I didn't. The Independent did and I think that's why I thought she was the white widow

Former punk rocker Sally Jones - nicknamed the White Widow - became a key recruiter for the extremist group after travelling to Raqqa to marry jihadist Junaid Hussain

Her citizenship can be revoked and she can be detained, tried and punished by the authorities of whichever country she's in.

Does she has dual citizenship? If not then it cannot be revoked. Britain cannot make brits by birth stateless.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/07/2017 13:08

Apparently so ... and if by "done anything" you mean having committed an act of terrorism, it seems this isn't necessary for a prosecution to happen: www.cps.gov.uk/news/fact_sheets/terrorism/

"It is important to note that in order to be convicted of a terrorism offence a person doesn't actually have to commit what could be considered a terrorist attack. Planning, assisting and even collecting information on how to commit terrorist acts are all crimes under British terrorism legislation"

FruitCider · 04/07/2017 13:20

I'm not a huge fan of terrorists being put in with the general prison population, they tend to radicalise others... what we need really is a cat A prison/high secure female estate built particularly for terrorists.

PickingOakum · 04/07/2017 13:40

I have very strong feelings about this woman as DH has relatives in the region.

What I would really like to see is a ICC case against all these foreign jihadis in the Hague for crimes against humanity, war crimes and crimes of aggression, plus a massive reparations award to Syrian nationals for the destruction and deaths they have caused.

But that's not going to happen. Yet I do believe the situation warrants some sort of transnational response with an agreed way of dealing with the resultant convicted prisoners.

WomanWithAltitude · 04/07/2017 13:53

I think she should come back and be imprisoned. She could potentially share useful information.

Her son is a victim though, not a criminal! He has been exploited and should be treated as other 'child soldiers' are - with compassion for the abuse he's suffered. He should be welcomed back, cared for and rehabilitated.

VestalVirgin · 04/07/2017 14:23

Well, that's a general problem with prisons. Locking lots of criminals up together tends to make them better at being criminals.

Put her in a normal women's prison and make sure her cellmates are psychologically stable.

Considering that Islamist ideology is rather unappealing to women, from a self-preservation point of view, I don't think she'd be able to radicalize anyone who isn't even a Muslim to begin with.

Much more of a problem with males, the male supremacy thing is probably going to appeal to them.

(Also, I don't think it would be worth the effort to build specialized prisons for female terrorists. There's already not enough women's prisons to give female prisoners equal opportunities with male prisoners, as there wouldn't be enough female criminals to imprison there.)

DreichAgain · 04/07/2017 14:34

PickingOakum good post.

It is truly transnational and yes to war crimes.

TheSecretMrsFairbrother · 04/07/2017 15:39

I too agree with Pickingoakum.

Samantha Lewthwaite was reportedly killed in 2014 but this has been denied by her terrorist mates.
She has three children with her (at least, she could have had more by now) presumably they have also been radicalised.

The question of what should be done with these children (eg Sally Jones's son) is an interesting one.

It's all very well to lock up adults indefinitely but children cannot be subject to the same punishments, nor should they be.

However, we know that people who have been radicalised are incredibly dangerous and somehow a way needs to be found to protect both the public and the children who absolutely are victims.
