....comment on a thread to say they're placemarking it when all they're doing is taking up valuable space on the thread? Hmm

If I want to get updates about a thread that I'm interested in but don't have anything to comment on it,instead of commenting on it saying that I'm placemarking,I just tick the 'watch this thread' feature that's also a duplicate of the one that is automatically ticked under the thread if you decide to comment on it solely to get updates so that anytime someone comments on it,I get an email telling me there's been a new comment on it so I just have to click the link and I'm brought back to the thread in question Smile

If would make threads so much quicker to read and they wouldn't fill up as fast and therefore have to have new ones started that people have to start on by saying thanks for starting a new thread and therefore wasting more valuable space and life easier for everyone if people just ticked this box instead of commenting solely to placemark Wink

So could people please make life easier for everyone by using the 'watch this thread' feature at the top of these instead of commenting that they want to be updated on it? Smile

P.S -sorry if some users don't have that feature available on their device or the format of mumsnet they're using Blush

I personally like the crossing out part, it shows what I'm thinking but not brave enough to say except I just did?!

Shock why are Biscuits being banned??!!

CanIHaveChocolatePlease · 03/07/2017 22:53

Testing and Finnegan I couldn't agree more Smile

Flying, you put two dashes/minus signs (without any spaces inbetween) each side of what you want to cross out, I don't know why I do it,it's a bad habit of mine Blush

I do not get the placemarking, or asking for diagrams thats just bloody ludicrous!!!!! what muppet actually asks for them????

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 03/07/2017 22:55

It's one of many simple features that the mumsnet staff could address to improve the forums. (another would be allowing you to quote posts).

I don't think they really have much interest in it al though.

.comment on a thread to say they're placemarking it when all they're doing is taking up valuable space on the thread
Why do people take MN so seriously that they complain about things like this?

chips4teaplease · 03/07/2017 22:56

bold fail. preview, please, chips.

placemarking

trulybadlydeeply · 03/07/2017 23:00

I try to be good, and "watch" a thread, when I want to know what happens, but I don't have any particularly helpful comments to make. I was watching one today, and now it has disappeared, and I have no idea why! So I'll revert back to placemarking I'm afraid OP.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 03/07/2017 23:00

Somehow being able to see all the OP's posts in one place rather than scrolling through 40 pages of people placemarking or saying ' any update?' would be a phenomenal inroad meaning that all the numpties who don't RTFT could just read the OPs updates on the first page and save us all time.

Guitargirl · 03/07/2017 23:03

I thought you were joking OP to begin with, you know, the whole MN 'lighthearted' thing. But now am not so sure. Everyone's posting styles are different. What for you is a bad habit is intensely irritating for some. It hurts my eyes to read a post where half of it has sodding lines through it. That's why brackets were invented.

KindleBueno · 03/07/2017 23:06

I can't watch threads with the app on my Xperia so I have to place mark

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 03/07/2017 23:08

Missing a deletion message is hardly the end of the world. It's not like you lost a winning lottery ticket or something.

98 times out of 100 = this was a PBP/troll
1 time out of 100 = OP asked for the thread to be deleted because it was potentially identifying
1 time out of 100 = This thread is triggering the F out of people

WTAF?

Ontheboardwalk · 03/07/2017 23:22

I've never placemarked and I get the deleted thread message - always.

I'm on my iPad and use watch this thread, I also click bookmark which then changes to save so I press save and I always get to see the deleted thread message!
