I know a woman who says she practises this and she gets in my nerves more than anyone I know. She can never seem to express an opinion about anything or come out and say something isn't acceptable. And she comes across as manipulative rather than direct (not just to me, to others too).

That could just be her of course. Could be her personality rather than the method she claims to use and I don't know whether she is true to the spirit of it!

But in this case, you've done nothing wrong in standing up to am aggressive person whose child has bullied and injured your son.

That's interesting all. I allways found how to talk so kids will listen (based on nvc) felt a bit manipulative to me. Which is partly context I'm sure.

I do think personality plays into it though.

Fascinated to find this thread, as am 3/4 through the NVC book as encouraged to read by my therapist, and working on how to practise NVC - great to hear from some people who find it beneficial Smile

It isn't about being indirect, quite the opposite really. My client called me 'blunt in the nicest possible way' last week.

Theworldisfullofidiots - I am kind of looking for someone to coach me actually - The reason I started this thread. I am doing a course and thinking about either asking the course centre for a mediator or coaching. BuT it is all in a second language for me and I need English support to get my head around everything first before I put it into my second language.

Engagedwithaleaf - I am so convinced by this method and am really pleased to find other people who use it and are interested in it.
