Just that really! How many pairs of trousers/shirts/jumpers do they actually need.

twoheaped · 02/07/2017 10:14

I got 2 of each, which was sufficient. Only 1 pe kit though.

Miz10 · 02/07/2017 10:15

I buy 4 of everything, as I work I don't want to be worrying about washing through the week.

soggywet · 02/07/2017 10:16

Fresh set daily in my experience!

Bumbumtaloo · 02/07/2017 10:16

We always get two of each. And one PE kit.

Hasthebellgone · 02/07/2017 10:16

I got 5 of each and one PE kit. I hated the institutionalised smell ds used to come home from school in. The washing for us is the same regardless of 2 or 5 lots of uniforms.

AveEldon · 02/07/2017 10:16

Depends on how messy your kid is and how expensive the uniform is

We had 3 pairs trousers/4 shirts/ 2 jumpers but I know people who got by with less
2 sets of PE kit but it was used 3-4 times a week

Miz10 · 02/07/2017 10:17

Yes fresh set daily definitely

Allthewaves · 02/07/2017 10:17

I brought 5 of everything. I work and do all laundry at the weekend so easier to have 5 days sitting in the wardrobe. My boys need a change everyday as they seem to get mud/pen/paint on uniform everyday

Beadoren · 02/07/2017 10:18

His school have said we are welcome to take the pe kit him termly to wash ConfusedSad

Depends a bit on your child - is she/he likely to be running around at lunchtime and therefore potentially falling over and getting muddy, or sitting quietly with a book? Can they eat lunch without getting it all down them? That will guide whether you may need a fresh set daily or can manage with two or three sets!

Gillian1980 · 02/07/2017 10:19

If it was an expensive uniform I'd probably get 2-3 of each. If it was basic stuff that I could get cheap from Asda etc then I'd get 5.

I usually only do laundry weekly so it would help with that.

CruCru · 02/07/2017 10:19

How often do you do laundry? If not every day then get 5 pairs of trousers and 5 polo shirts.

I buy:

3 pairs of trousers
4 polo shirts
2 jumpers
2 pairs of shorts
10 pairs of school socks
4 pairs of games socks
1 games top
1 pair of games shorts
1 games pullover
1 School coat
1 winter hat
1 pair of gloves
1 scarf
1 summer hat

Beadoren · 02/07/2017 10:19

I'm a sahm so popping a wash on in the middle of the week isn't a problem. Also does anybody have any recommendations for which shop are the most hardwearing for trousers?

OP posts:
Ownerofalittlechimp · 02/07/2017 10:20

5 lots (although only 1 logo jumper, £23 each in our school regardless of size) & 2 pe kits (mainly as stuff came in packs of 2)

grasspigeons · 02/07/2017 10:21

They don't get that dirty or sweaty for PE, so a half termly wash is probably fine.
I found dinner went down the tops (plus paint, mud etc) but the shorts and trousers stayed a bit cleaner. We had 5 polo tops, 3 jumpers and 3 trousers /shorts.

Potentialpoochowner · 02/07/2017 10:21

Depends if you want to do a mid week wash or not. I'm a fan of five sets of shirts and jumpers as they invariably came home with spag bol etc down them each day at that age. Can get away with less trousers though.

CruCru · 02/07/2017 10:22

I buy trousers from John Lewis. I have bought from the school supplier but the hems came down almost immediately. I've tried M&S but all their stuff was really shiny.

I've not tried Sainsbury's / Tesco / Asda (I live in central London so don't have any shops like that which are big enough to stock uniform).

sunnycloudyrainy · 02/07/2017 10:23

I always go for 1 PE kit (stays at school). 3 jumpers, 3 tshirts, 3 trousers. Always make sure I do a wash Tuesday night and every bloody day then you have enough for rest of week x

grasspigeons · 02/07/2017 10:23

Please name the stuff really clearly and show your child where the name is located (even coats, hats, gloves and shoes)

Potentialpoochowner · 02/07/2017 10:24

Can I also pass on my tip of hairspray on marker pen before it goes in the wash - works every time, but if you've already washed it in then forget it, it's there forever. And yes to the top about only one logo top (for photo day) - rest from supermarket. I found Next are good for hard wearing trousers.

CruCru · 02/07/2017 10:24

Have you decided how you are going to label the stuff? I sew in name tapes (but daunting at the start but I'm now quite quick at it) and use Stikins for other stuff (you can put them inside shoes), on the bookbag etc.

charlyn · 02/07/2017 10:24

For my girl im getting 1 pinafore dress, 1 gingham dress, 1 skirt and 1 trousers and then 4 polo shirts and 2 cardigans.

Hassled · 02/07/2017 10:26

More than you think you'll need unless you have the sort of set up where you're doing a wash every day or so anyway and so turning round trousers/jumpers in the week isn't a problem. It also depends on whether your child is the type who can't look at a yoghurt without getting some on their top (I'm looking at you, DS3). But if you're working/time is tight, just get loads.

Peanutbuttercheese · 02/07/2017 10:26

2 of everything.

Unless kids cover themselves in food or paint and it has to be washed I have always been a great believer in spot cleaning. Baby wipes are good for this.

I tried trousers from every shop, DS played a lot of football and we had various ripped knees and it made no difference if they were M&S teflon coated ones or cheapo ASDA. I did cut off and make a couple of pairs in to summer shorts when he ripped them.

Marv1nGay3 · 02/07/2017 10:28

My kids need a clean set every day. They always come home with glue/ paint/ pen/ food on their uniform. And definitely name everything- school jumpers in particular get lost on a regular basis ! Asda uniform seems to last well.
