Please help urgent: council tax and late payment

I live in a houseshare and pay the council tax. Last couple of payments were received a bit late which culminated in them sending a final demand essentially asking us to either pay in full or set up a direct debit. Duly set up a direct debit while on the phone with the council (a nice employee did it for me) and noted it was in for the 1st of the month. Fine.

Today I checked my account to see when it was being taken and saw with horror that it wasn't going out until the 3rd! I am now panicking so have just used their automated phone hotline to pay the month's charge. A double payment will now go out but I don't care as long as the deadline is reached - really panicking.

Does anyone know what will happen now? Does this count as a late payment? I have emailed the council explaining that their employee set up the direct debit for me and asked it to be brought a few days forward in future to ensure the deadline is reached; have also told them I paid by phone for this month but still feel so worried and sick.

Any advance?

The 1st fell on a weekend so is processed on the first working day of the week, your payment will be fine and as instructed.

As the 1st is a Saturday, direct debits set up for the 1st will come out on the 3rd (Monday) this month. Will that be it?

They'll be taking it on the 3rd as the 1st isn't a working day, you won't get a late notice if you let them take the d/d payment on the date closest to the agreed date. You will have paid it twice now but won't get any action against you

It would have been set to go out on the next working/banking day if the 1st fell on a weekend. Totally normal and not a late payment. Don't worry!
