AIBU to think that thousands of people loving charlie and bradley is some what false.

I know exactly what It is like to have a poorly child same as hundreds more parents in the uk.
Set aside my belief that I believe that bradley has very little dignity and both him and charlie are now used as some weird sort of click bait.

The supporters I do not understand it ?

We love you, we are heart broken and we will miss you.

Now I get empathy but this is not empathy this is media posts just gone crazy to write the most heart breaking post they can.
I wish neither of these children would have to lose their life and can undetstand the parents pain just like the rest of the terminally ill children in this country.

You can feel sad that these things happen but this just seems weird and could not imagine allowing a nation of people watching my child pass away.

I mean how many of them 2 years from now will wake up on the morning of their anniversary and automatically remember them ?

"Smell the success" jesus wept...

WankYouForTheMusic · 04/07/2017 14:44

Fuck me, that is horrifying.

drivinmecrazy · 04/07/2017 14:45

I haven't felt the need to comment thus far as every previous poster has posted as I would.
But I do feel the need to share this from CA FB...
I looked up the definition in law terms of what is the meaning of terminally ill. CHARLIE GARD IS NOT TERMINALLY ILL IN LEGAL TERMS. it states "terminally ill individual" means an individual who has been certified by a physician as having an illness or physical condition which can reasonably be expected to result in death in 24 months or less after the date of the certification.
It surely epitomises their collective ignorance, and confounds belief.
I don't need years of medical training to see that, even with the American wonder drug administered by the Pope himself, poor Charlie is still not going to see in the new year in 2018 let alone 2019.
But I guess in the eyes of ca that makes me an insensitive, cruel, unfeeling monster who's children should be pitied and taken to be raised amongst the rising cult

Retiredandgrateful · 04/07/2017 14:46

As someone said on another thread 'It's Princess Diana all over again.' People who have never met Charlie or his parents claiming to be heartbroken. As with Diana, I am totally bewildered.

HeyRoly · 04/07/2017 14:48

I guess, using their logic, someone on life support isn't "terminally ill" as long as they can stay on life support indefinitely Confused

As for those shameless individuals profiteering from tacky as fuck merchandise... well, I have no words.

OrlandoTheMarmaladeCat · 04/07/2017 14:53

Have set up a monthly donation to GOSH. I'm horrified by these stories and am taking comfort from this thread that I'm not alone in that reaction.

Pomegranatepompom · 04/07/2017 14:58

It is horrific, I am finding some comfort too in this thread. It's all so depressing and I really feel for all the NICU staff (actually all staff at GOSH who are also affected by the negativity) and all the other patients, families and children at GOSH.

chupsmelad · 04/07/2017 15:00

stopnamechanging that is obscene Sad.

alpacasandwich · 04/07/2017 15:00

They should donate all that money to GOSH. I wonder if it would even cover the cost of his treatment, all the specialists involved etc.?

It's revolting that they're exploiting that baby as an income stream. I wish the court had banned them from using their baby in this manner. I don't have any pity for the parents any more, this is repellent.

Alittlepotofrosie · 04/07/2017 15:01

Charlie merchandise is one of the sickest things I've ever ever seen. Sad Let the poor boy go with some dignity.

Trampire · 04/07/2017 15:02

Omg the merchandise!!! Shock That's beyond words.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 04/07/2017 15:04

I'm sorry but the things they are selling have made me feel sick! Dirty fucking scum.

I'm past annoyance and confusement and I'm straight into anger and disgust now. I hope Charlie gets to rest soon, at least those of us onthis thread seem to be thinking of his well being and not about lining our pockets.

The family already has a million why do they need any more?

Scrumpernickel · 04/07/2017 15:04

'It's Princess Diana all over again.' People who have never met Charlie or his parents claiming to be heartbroken

Yes!

Like some weird contagion.

FlyingElbows · 04/07/2017 15:08

I wonder if someone with (actual) legal knowledge can answer what I'm wondering? Hypothetically if the family are seen to be profiteering from this do they risk having their parental rights removed completely? Obviously that would be the very very last thing anyone would want but... Confused

I'm struggling to understand, although there must be a reason, why it appears that social media may be oppressing the law. The selling is just beyond distasteful.

reallyanotherone · 04/07/2017 15:09

I think they have considerably more than that.

The 1.3m figure is soley from the justgiving page. If you read though the family give personal bank account and paypal details and state that they prefer that to justgiving, because of the JG charges.

They must have raised a significant amount that way too. Interesting that the don't share those amounts...

Would they be liable for tax on direct donations?

Scrumpernickel · 04/07/2017 15:10

Branded air fresheners and bags of sweets?! That is staggeringly crass.

summerbreezer · 04/07/2017 15:12

I think the so-called "Charlie's Army" represents everything that is wrong with the "we've had enough of experts" endemic that has developed since Brexit.

Ignorance breeds ignorance. I am actually going right off "the people".

Although my favourite comment from CA to date is the one that accuses the Loose Women panellists (who are apparently not on the side of CA) of "thinking they are doctors". Erm...

If there wasn't such a tragedy at the heart of this case it would be almost funny.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 04/07/2017 15:13

Ok so they don't care about Charlie and are using him for money.

Don't care how awful that sounds because that's all I am seeing.

alpacasandwich · 04/07/2017 15:13

The branded air fresheners, bracelets etc. are on the family's website. It's not CA going rogue. This is part of their strategy.

alpacasandwich · 04/07/2017 15:15

Oh look, you can buy a phone case with a terminally ill child on it.

AIBU to think that thousands of people loving charlie and bradley is some what false.
TalkinPeece · 04/07/2017 15:15

Dear LonelyMummy
I've read this thread, particularly your posts.
You are amazing and strong and I know that one good outcome of this awful situation will be a huge amount of support for GOSH from sane people everywhere.

Mitochondrial diseases are one of the great frontiers that medicine has yet to make progress on.
Fingers and toes crossed for all who have them (and their families)

summerbreezer · 04/07/2017 15:16

Hypothetically if the family are seen to be profiteering from this do they risk having their parental rights removed completely? Obviously that would be the very very last thing anyone would want but... confused

As a lawyer, although not a family lawyer, I can say that this is very unlikely. Extinction of parental rights is a very drastic step to take. It would only be considered if the child in question was being caused emotional or physical harm by the parents.

Sadly, in the case of little Charlie, the only harm he can be caused is with the continuation of the life-support. And that is a decision that is in the hands of GOSH, not the parents.

TrollMummy · 04/07/2017 15:18

The whole thing is just sickening and so disrespectful to the poor child. When I think of all the parents who struggle and suffer to care for their desperately ill or disabled children and these people are fundraising and personally profiting in this way. Lost for words.

alpacasandwich · 04/07/2017 15:18

It would only be considered if the child in question was being caused emotional or physical harm by the parents.

Surely there should be a change in the law, then? Just because that harm will never be "felt" by the unconscious, brain damaged and terminally ill infant, doesn't render it morally acceptable.

WankYouForTheMusic · 04/07/2017 15:18

I wouldn't have thought so flyingelbows. If they were profiteering, and I'm certainly not saying they are, it wouldn't necessarily have an impact on Charlie's welfare or their ability to parent him. Those are the things that would be taken into account. You can be financially dodgy and still be a decent parent.
