Just on a superficial bitchy note do you think 45 tells Melania to wear sleeveless dresses to show her arms are as good as Michelle Obama's? I can imagine this directive all too well.

lionheart · 09/07/2017 01:18

The Gamergate connection makes sense. Thanks cozie.

The internet is like some strange new frontier with regard to so many things--one of the reasons that question about the status of a tweet is so important.

lionheart · 09/07/2017 01:20

More connections between Trump campaign and Russia.

I had no idea about spicey boi but couldn't believe that trump junior was retweeting the video of CNN being shot down. Although I suppose we've reached a stage where nothing should be shocking really. That Australian journalist has it spot on.

The deflections and attempts to propagate this alternative reality by this White House are astonishing. The latest attempt:

Hallie Jackson @HallieJackson

NEW: spox for POTUS outside legal team casts mtg as part of oppo effort. Source close to team calls it "poss. setup by Russian operatives"

U.S. officials say Russian government hackers have penetrated energy and nuclear company business networks

I clicked onto another WaPo story from the link above, about the experiences of a Muslim doctor and his family who moved to rural Minnesota before the election and the impact of Trump's anti-Muslim rhetoric: www.washingtonpost.com/national/in-a-midwestern-town-that-went-for-trump-a-muslim-doctor-tries-to-understand-his-neighbors/2017/07/01/0ada50c4-5c48-11e7-9fc6-c7ef4bc58d13_story.html?tid=hybrid_experimentrandom_1_na-amp&utm_term=.f5871aa66669. There are some parallels with the impact of Brexit on EU nationals of my acquaintance, who feel really hurt by Brexit and less welcome, even (especially?) the ones who have been here for decades. It is sad all round.

Can't believe that Trump had Ivanka sitting in for him at the G20 and that everyone else just let her!

Also agree about being wary of the personality politics surrounding Corbyn. I like him but he's not a god although the way people act it seems they think he is.

Lweji · 09/07/2017 11:58

I share the feelings of that article on Trump and the decline of the USA.

I hope the EU can step up, but we are at a fragile equilibrium.

OTOH, perhaps we could expand. Australia is already part of Eurovision.
I envision a European Union with Australia and Canada. Grin

Lweji · 09/07/2017 12:38

Did Donald Trump Get Played By Vladimir Putin?

I don't think so.

What I do think is that there's a group of people for whom Russia is a partner and not an adversary. That that's oil people. E.g. Tillerson's ExxonMobil.
These people don't care about the US or national security. They care about profit.

lionheart · 09/07/2017 13:40

And our PM seems to think trump will save her:

Have you seen this, but Naomi Klein?

The Worst Is Yet to Come with Trump, So We Must Be Ready for Shock Politics

She's talking about her book "No Is Not Enough: Resisting Trump’s Shock Politics and Winning the World We Need."

Useful for those in the US, but not only.

It was most notable to me that many countries she mentions have had dictatorships within living memory.

Putin & I discussed forming an impenetrable Cyber Security unit so that election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded..

Really?

Lweji · 09/07/2017 17:02

It gives a new meaning to the expression:
"If you can't beat them, join them"

Orlantina · 09/07/2017 17:05

I wonder how Trump will react if the Committee reports that's there's clear evidence that the Russians hacked the election?

Lweji · 09/07/2017 17:07

He'll claim something like a conspiracy. Or turn it around to say that the hacking was supposed to help Hillary all along.

I do think he'll put pressure on the republicans in the commission not to find anything.
I hope they resist too.

Orlantina · 09/07/2017 17:08

“Partnering with Putin on a ‘Cyber Security Unit’ is akin to partnering with Assad on a ‘Chemical Weapons Unit,’” Senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida, said on Twitter, alluding to President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, who has repeatedly used chemical weapons to attack his people.

cozietoesie · 09/07/2017 17:50

Eric Holder's ........obscure late night tweet starts to make a little more sense now. Almost.

squoosh · 09/07/2017 17:59

That 'make America Great again' song he posted........I can't even.........that is like some kind of Trey Parker spoof.

SanFranBear · 09/07/2017 18:31

Started watching the US version of House of Cards last night... not a patch on the original, is it Sad

I will persevere as I think US politics is fascinating (hence my love of this thread!) but I miss Francis Urquhart..
