Neighbours have 'made' a driveway which MY parking space blocks

Trying to keep it short. I live down a very weird road- very few houses have driveways. Some of us have allocated bays in the street. Other people- generally the owners of newer houses- must park in a car park about a minutes walk away created especially for our road. It's literally at the end.

Neighbours have a weird upside down U shaped house, facing the road. They have decided to put a very ugly, gravel driveway on the reminder of their front garden.

However, MY allocated council parking space that belongs to my house is where the exit to their 'driveway' is. Their DD just passed her driving test- hence driveway- and I've had to move my car from my space SIX times since Tuesday.

Neighbours have now sent letter asking me to park elsewhere so their DD can use 'driveway.'

AIBU to have posted a polite letter back basically saying no and that I will not be moving car multiple times a day in future? Hmm

Car park for our houses requires a permit. As I have the allocated space, I cannot apply for a permit as I already have a space. Neighbours have one space in car park provided for those without allocated spaces, however can apply for space for their DD as car park has spare permits available. I can't park anywhere else as you can only park in allocated bays.

AIBU to think my allocated space is mine, it's not my fault it's in front of their house and that I shall not be moving my car from now on?

Oh, don't expect it to be quick though. Letters have to be sent warning them several times that they are making an illegal crossover, and they have to allow time to respond.

SerfTerf · 30/06/2017 23:27

They're crackers. Or possibly terminally unobservant. Actually, they're probably just selfish arses.

Biggreygoose · 30/06/2017 23:27

Respond to the letter. Tell than that without a dropped kerb that they will be required to apply for a section 184 under the highways act. Point out that they are very unlikely to be granted one without planning for the driveway or the fact that your space is in the way.

Also point out that they are likely to be currently committing an offence under the same for which they are liable to be fined and you will be contacting the local authorities highways department for further advice.

SerfTerf · 30/06/2017 23:28

Look at the diagram @pinkdelight. It's all there Smile

YANBU

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 30/06/2017 23:32

Stop moving for them, full stop, let alone multiple times a day!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 30/06/2017 23:32

I'm confused as to why neighbours-with-garden-that-isnt-a-drive are allowed to buy permits for 2 parking places (albeit in car park) but you wouldn't be able to apply for a car park permit.
What if you shared your house with another car owner?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 30/06/2017 23:33

YANBU, contact the Council.
Or, if yo don't want to contact the council, send the snotty neighbours a letter saying that you will not be moving your car from its designated spot again as they are illegally crossing the pavement and have they got council permission for their "driveway"?

And then contact the Council anyway.

So sick of these entitled bastards who think they can push people around and do what they like without recourse to the proper (and legal!) ways of doing things!

BigChocFrenzy · 30/06/2017 23:33

Oh, parking thread with entitled neighbors and a lovely diagram !
Perfect Grin

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 30/06/2017 23:35

Oh and if I were you I'd contact the Council ANYWAY to find out what action you can take if when the DD of snotty neighbours starts parking in your allocated space...

BewareOfDragons · 30/06/2017 23:39

No dropped kerb? It's not a parking space, it's a paved garden, as others have said.

Don't move your car for them again.

Notify the council asap.

crocodilesoup · 30/06/2017 23:51

What would make them think this was ok? Didn't they see you parking there prior to getting the garden covered in gravel?

Travis1 · 30/06/2017 23:55

I'd stop answering every time they come to the door and contact the council on Monday.

NoFucksImAQueen · 01/07/2017 00:03

Yanbu at all. They are cheeky fuckers

SouthWindsWesterly · 01/07/2017 00:09

Ring up the council and enquirer - if your neighbours complain that you dobbed them in just inform them hat you enquiries about a permit as you wouldn't be able to use your allocated space and the council unfortunately investigated....

Cheeky feckers!

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 01/07/2017 00:09

I can't believe you've moved your car for them 6 times already! I would have moved it the first time to let her in and then mentioned that this was your parking space and you wouldn't be able to move your car every time they asked from now on.

MilesHuntsWig · 01/07/2017 00:11

Really cheeky. Reply to them and tell them you've sent a copy to the council.

Svalberg · 01/07/2017 00:12

If your council are anything like mine, they'll cement a bollard or two, pdq , into the pavement in front of the so-called drive to stop them driving over the non-dropped kerb.

Tanith · 01/07/2017 00:16

I like the colour of "their house" and it goes well with "their 'drive'" but I think the red of your parking space clashes horribly. I also think, if you're going to use the yellow, you need a darker colour for the writing: white tends to blend in and is difficult to see.

Oh! The parking!? Right. Well, I think YANBU.

GabsAlot · 01/07/2017 00:20

stop moving its your space! by moving your giving an imprssion theyre right

say no contact the council if u dont like it

HurtyTeeth · 01/07/2017 00:22

Do you have your space marked out on the street, op, you know with those dotted white lines and stuff?

C0untDucku1a · 01/07/2017 00:27

What does the upside down U shaped house look like? Marble Arch with a roof and windows? I'm very intrigued by it

WeeM · 01/07/2017 00:39

They are at it, basically they're just parking in their front garden. I'd def get into the council. And no way would I be offering to swap spaces.
