To ask people to PLEASE not picket hospitals?

Or consider any kind of direct action against a hospital because of decisions concerning any individual patient.

It's irresponsible.

the public don't agree

Well, since the public are fully informed about the prognosis of mitochondrial DNA depletion syndromes, this is of course really important and they should have a say in this child's treatment. WTF? And no, the disagreeing public should not picket those that do understand the syndrome, prognosis and treatment and who are caring for this child and many others.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 03/07/2017 20:06

Bloody hell. Donald Trump - the man who put the "twit" in Twitter. Once he gets on board you know all sanity has departed.

There's people on that page now discussing contacting Vladimir Putin to ask him to get involved. Fucking hell.

yesterday, one CA poster asked another which actress she'd like to play her when this becomes a blockbuster movie. Says so much about how some of them view this.

Hmm

Any shred of common sense Charlie's Army might have had has been well and truly blown away.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 03/07/2017 20:23

Thing is don't think any of them are joking either they belive what they're writing. Trump is going to come and the Air force will take Charlie to America and he'll become a citizen and get treatment..makes sense

WannaBe · 03/07/2017 20:42

Ok I realise I may be flamed for asking this, but why has Charlie's life support not been turned off?

The court case was for the benefit of Charlie, to establish that keeping him on life support was not in his best interests. So why has it now been almost a week since the outcome and the reason for the case in the first place has not been carried out? Where are Charlie's interests being served now?

By allowing this baby to pass away peacefully his best interests are surely being served, by bowing to demands to keep him alive the baying mob are being given what they want, and a continued platform to spout their bile and ignorant crap.

AdalindSchade · 03/07/2017 20:55

I'm sure they have a very good reason for the delay which they oddly enough haven't shared with random public. It could well be that the family aren't allowed to discuss it with the media as part of the order.

Carolinesbeanies · 03/07/2017 20:55

"Charlie's story is now being circulated amongst the right-wing in America as proof that socialised healthcare, ie a National Health Service where all people receive medical treatment free at point-of-use, will deliberately kill unwell children and other patients as a cost-saving measure. "

Right wing press? Dear lordy. As if theyve never heard this before. Ashya King? 8000 cancer patients denied suitable drugs? The Liverpool Care Pathway? Must be thousands of others from refused/delayed procedures. Nah, no patients in our wonderful NHS are intentionally put on a fast track to death Hmm

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/07/2017 21:02

I confess I've been wondering the same myself, WannaBe

In principle, what GOSH meant last Friday about "a bit more time" is none of our business. Then again, Charlie's mum and dad chose - and go on choosing - to post on social media, so I'm surprised nothing further's come out about timescales (unless the hospital made silence on this subject some kind of condition of giving them more time, which frankly I could hardly blame them for)

Whatever's happening, it worries me that they may not be helping themselves now - and almost certainly aren't helping poor Charlie, who this is supposed to be about

WannaBe · 03/07/2017 21:07

Unless they have perhaps decided to not tell the parents when it will be to avoid it appearing on social media...?

After all, when it became apparent that it would be Friday the story was in the press within hours. The reality is that the parents know it is going to happen, no amount of telling them when is really going to prepare them for it, so perhaps the social media storm has led them to thinking that it's best not to put a time on it but to decide when and to tell the parents "ok, it's time." Which will give them no time to report back....

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 03/07/2017 21:08

Ok I realise I may be flamed for asking this, but why has Charlie's life support not been turned off?

That's what's been puzzling me too. I know the official statement was to give the family more time and work on his care plan.

Personally I think GOSH might be considering a way for him to go 'home' but are needing to get all kinds of legal agreements in place. If they are considering him going home then they will have to arrange the release of vital medical staff to monitor him 24/7 at home. I would imagine they'll struggle to find anyone willing to walk into that lions den with the level of vitriol spouted by CA.

Horrible as it sounds, they'll probably also have to have someone there who can intervene if the (understandably) distraught parents physically attack medical staff when Charlie finally passes.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 03/07/2017 21:10

Whenever and wherever it happens it won't be enough to calm that group. Gone beyond support now. Even if it ever did happen that GOSH were to let him to hike that would be twisted as well

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 03/07/2017 21:16

Let him to hike?! Meant go home..

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/07/2017 21:21

I think GOSH might be considering a way for him to go 'home'

I thought this too, but then wouldn't that fly in the face of the court judgement which suggested that continued support isn't in little Charlie's interests?

Pop24 · 03/07/2017 21:31

Guardian article says that Trump advisors have been in Touch with the parents to try to offer help. How exactly do they think they can help? I don't understand why they are trying to give them more false hope all with the motive to try and boost Trumps polarity. The world really is a cruel place. I don't understand why they haven't withdrawn life support yet but it's getting messier and messier if anyone thought that was possible!

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 03/07/2017 21:36

Yes I know re: court judgement but if they withdraw life support once he's home then they are still abiding by the court judgement.

I think they may have reached a point where they have to balance the safety of their staff and other desperately ill/EOL patients (plus their distraught parents) against keeping him at GOSH with the social media warriors making threats etc.

JaneEyre70 · 03/07/2017 21:36

It's pretty upsetting to think he's been on life support since October, the hospital have gone to court in April yet all the parents have done is delay after delay and even now when all courts have decided that GOSH can turn his life support off as he's suffering, it still hasn't happened. I find it really bewildering, and think it will set a very dangerous precedent for future cases if the parents are able to keep on using social media as a delaying tactic Sad. Poor Charlie. Seems that no one is thinking of him in all of this, and that breaks my heart.

MumazAZ09 · 03/07/2017 21:42

Well, the behaviour of these twats has just spurred me on to set up a direct debit for a monthly donation to GOSH.

BreakWindandFire · 03/07/2017 22:08

If you want to see how Trump's intervention and the entire case is being presented in the US look here

Hundreds of comments claiming it's a socialist medicine EU death panel and hoping the GOSH staff get Aids and die.

Typical comment: If his name was Ahmed, the UK government would have flown the American doctors over to treat him. Somehow he would fully recover (later it would been discovered of you're part goat, the treatment works wonders) and 9 years later he'd rape a toddler, and after 1 year of community service he'd blow himself up in a daycare centre

I see that Sarah Palin has also pitched in. This is just another Terri Schiavo case for the Americans.

WannaBe · 03/07/2017 22:21

"I think GOSH might be considering a way for him to go 'home'" actualy I was thinking the opposite - that they were trying to find a way to remove the parents from the situation altogether as it could be considered that all of this action has gone beyond grief and into the realms of putting a baby (and others) at risk now.

SerfTerf · 03/07/2017 22:21

Don't ask me why I did it to blood pressure but I just had a look at Daily Mail comments;

Send Airforce one for him Mr Trump. That would be a fantastic jester. This little boy needs someone like you to stand up for him as the blithering doctors and judges are useless

*
know I'm probably alone in this but I only wish we had a leader in this country that got things done like President Trump. God bless Charlie Gard.

Trump should be made a Nobel Laureat.

TBF, those have more down notes than up, but they have hundreds of each Hmm

It's very alienating to read things like that and realise there are people who mean them.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 03/07/2017 22:25

There are a lot of worrying people/way of thinking out there..

Saying that there are quite a few normal comments on there and the mirror page as well..Didn't down well with the Facebook lot though. To mean and negative..

SerfTerf · 03/07/2017 22:28

It's true. Overall, common sense is more popular.

OP posts:
Pop24 · 03/07/2017 22:31

To be fair to DM readers when I looked earlier the most popular comments were sane ones. I don't understand why people think Teresa may or Donald can do anything about it though? Did they forget it went to the highest court in the land and the ECHR? Do they not understand that the prime minister and potus can't just ignore a court ruling? Thank god.

Oakmaiden · 03/07/2017 22:40

Poor baby boy.

It must be so hard to be his parents. I can't blame them for not wanting to let go.

There is no way for this to have a good ending. There is no way GOSH can send him home to die - the hysteria means that it would be extremely unsafe to do so, even IF palliative care at home was a possibility.
